Senior WheelsSeniors are a vital group in the Anaheim community, and there are a wealth of opportunities and programs to serve your needs and connect you to other active seniors. The City of Anaheim and its partners provide recreational, education, and assistance programs designed specifically for seniors.

This program and activities guide provides an overview of the many services available to Anaheim seniors. For more details, you can dial 3-1-1 if within city limits or call us at 714-765-4311 or visit anaheim.net/seniors.

The Senior Wheels Transportation Program is available to Anaheim residents 60 years of age and older. In partnership with the Orange County Transportation Authority, service is available to visit friends, local merchants, Anaheim community centers and libraries, and medical facilities within 10 miles of the resident’s home in Anaheim.

THREE EASY STEPS:

1. Register for service.

2. Purchase vouchers by mail or by visiting a community center. Rides are available for a low cost of $2 per ride.

3. Schedule your reservations at least 48 hours in advance.

• HOME UTILITY CHECK-UP Our expert will visit your home and find simple, practical ways to reduce your utility bill by increasing water and energy efficiency.

• TREEPOWER PROGRAM Get up to 6 free, shade-producing and energy-saving trees.

Available to customers based on income qualifications:

• ENERGY DISCOUNT PROGRAM Residents can receive a 10% credit on the electric portion of their Anaheim Public Utilities Bill.

• WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM Residents can receive free water and energy - efficiency upgrades and repairs.

• DUSK TO DAWN LIGHTING & INSTALLATION Residents can choose from a variety of fixtures to best fit your need that turn on and off automatically.

ANAHEIM FIRE & RESCUE

» Paramedic Program – This $36 annual fee covers paramedic response costs for those that live in your home, as well as any visiting friends and family. Fee can be billed at $3/month on your Anaheim Public Utilities bill.

» Home Safety Visit Program – A fire expert will conduct a personalized fire safety assessment of your home, and includes a Home Fire Safety Checklist, information on how to develop a home escape plan, as well as information on smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.

ANAHEIM POLICE DEPARTMENT

» Vacation House Check – If you are going on vacation, can perform a thorough inspection of your property while you are away.

» You Are Not Alone – Provides “You Are Not Alone” checks for those living alone who would appreciate someone occasionally checking on their welfare, as a measure of security and well-being.

ANAHEIM PUBLIC LIBRARY

» Senior Resources Guide – Pick up a free copy of the latest Answers Guide (produced by the Council on Aging-Southern California), where you’ll find a number of resources on healthcare, housing, legal, insurance and more.

NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES

» Questions, ideas or concerns about your neighborhood? Neighborhood Services is a single point of contact for residents in need of assistance, and offers district community meetings for the latest information in your area.

2-1-1 OC – Provides a resource database of health and human services and support, accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week online and through our multi-lingual hotline, connecting people quickly and effectively to existing programs and disaster response information. Just dial 2-1-1.

Senior Citizen Commission

Volunteering City offerings

County offeringsThe Anaheim Senior Citizen Commission was established by the City Council as an advisory body to make recommendations concerning the needs of senior citizens in the community.

Volunteer opportunities – How can you get involved in Anaheim?

• Anaheim Police Department – Several programs are available to aid police personnel in servicing the citizens of Anaheim, including the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol, Volunteers in Service to Anaheim, and Public Awareness Through Citizen Education.

• Anaheim Fire & Rescue – Anaheim Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) both offer opportunities to assist the community in preparing for and responding to disasters.

• Community Services – Spend time interacting, socializing and participating in activities and special events with local seniors at Downtown Anaheim Community Center and Brookhurst Community Center.
