Beauty brands are utilizing technology to personalize a consumer’s experience (wrinkles, moisturizer, smart mirrors)

Customers can personally customize their products and have transparency in what ingredients are being used

Customers can have products that are personally tailored for the individual

Dermatology

Products are being made to help the consumer better understand their skin and what products they need

There is a sensor that detects the amount of UV that helps to protect against overexposure

A predicted 6.1% growth in the cruelty-free cosmetics market between the years 2017-2023

Environment

In 2017, more than 120 billion units of packaging are produced in the cosmetics industry

Non-recyclable plastic packaging and excess are the biggest issues

Only 12% of plastic is recycled and the average moisturizer pot takes about 1,000 years to decompose

56% of the British population (4.5 million people) don’t recycle bathroom products because of the inconvenience

Vegan

There’s no FDA-regulated definition of the term

• The beauty industry is over-saturated with brands • Hard to start a new brand and stand out • Everyone is copying each other • There are too many options

• Hard to trust brands/influencers due to paid-promotion

• Being politically sensitive • It costs a lot of money to make so many

shade ranges • Hard to please everyone • Fenty Foundation is bad quality

Sustainability• Major drugstore brands that mass-

produce have excess inventory that end up going to waste (glass bottles, chemicals)

• Sustainability in the industry also includes the production of a product and how it affects the planet • Including the people who make

the product (farmers) • Packaging • Factories

• There aren’t very many industry protocols for sustainability

• The term vegan is thrown around and isn’t heavily enforced
