Fee Waivers - Am I eligible? Students eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch qualify for Fee Waivers:

○ Eligibility determined by completed Lunch Forms (applyforlunch.org)

○ Only Juniors and Seniors can use fee waivers

○ Maximum of 1 fee waiver (per test) per year

○ Available during lunch periods only

Applying to CUNY

• Apply for either General Admission or Macaulay Honors via CUNY PORTAL at www.cuny.edu

• Deadlines: General Admission (Feb 1st) and Macaulay Honors (Dec 1st)

• Application Cost: $65.00

• Max Number of Schools you can apply to: 6

• Include your OSIS # so your transcript(s) can be downloaded by CUNY (BTHS does not send to CUNY)

• Sophie Davis, BA/MD (Brooklyn College) and Grove School for Engineering programs also require:

○ 2 letters of recommendation

○ Essay

• Macaulay Honors College (More information at: www.macaulay.cuny.edu)

- Essay and two letters of recommendation REQUIRED

- If you are denied admission to Macaulay your application will automatically default to General Admissions to

all schools on your Macaulay application

MACAULAY will be visiting BTHS on October 5th (Period 7)

Applying to SUNY

• Apply to SUNY using the Common App

• Fee Waivers available if you qualify (free/reduced lunch)

• Students applying to SUNY EOP Program - Must also apply via

Common Application but must fill out the EOP Supplement that

the specific college requires

• Save your application until it is ready to be sent

• Be sure to follow instructions carefully and complete ALL required

essays and supplements

• Remember to click “SUBMIT” when application is complete

• Don’t forget to pay ($$$) for your applications or use your waivers

• Schools NOT on the Common App must be applied via that schools

Naviance • Nov. 14th Naviance closes to students on (no more +/- schools on list)

• System is used by counselors and teachers to send materials to student’s colleges on Common App (i.e. transcripts, letters of recommendation and various school forms and documents)

• Allows counselors to assess what has/has not been sent out to a school

• Paperless and saves time and money for postage

• Students should list ALL SCHOOLS on Naviance as well as their CUNY account on their Naviance Colleges I am Applying to

Linking Naviance and Common App Accounts

Besides listing instructions on how to

2018 NON ELECTRONIC REQUEST

FORM

This form alerts counselors to schools

that do not accept Naviance document

submissions. Instead these items must

be mailed. Form NOT NEEDED for

CUNY or SUNY schools.

College Forms and DeadlinesFall 2018 EARLY TRANSCRIPT &

DOCUMENT REQUEST FORM

This form identifies the following for

counselors:

● EA schools and deadlines

● Questbridge or POSSE schools and deadlines

● Macaulay application and schools

● Schools with deadlines before Dec 15th

● All Parents/Guardians should sign this form

to ensure clarity on where your child is

applying

FORM DEADLINE: October 9th

College Reps Visiting Tech

Students can access the list of colleges

and universities visiting BTHS on their

Naviance accounts.

If they have class scheduled when the

meeting occurs they must complete this

form.

If they have lunch scheduled when the

meeting occurs they need to show their

program card.

Teachers keep top portion. Students keep

bottom for entry to event.

Letters of Recommendation

Brag Sheets are available on the Tech

website to use with your teachers.

Feel free to add any information you

feel would enhance their

recommendation letter.

You can also add a resume as well.

November 14 Naviance Closes for Students (no more adding/deleting colleges)

December 14 Last Day to Submit College App Requests Before Christmas Break

Test Scores for Colleges

Students are responsible for sending - and paying - for all test scores to the

colleges and universities they are applying.

Check with your schools to see if scores can be self-reported (saves $$$) or

not.

BTHS College Office is not responsible for sending tests scores to a

students schools.

Senior One-on-One meetings (Oct - Dec)

The College Office will be sending out an email later this evening with dates and

times to meet with your College Advisor.

Appointments will be open during lunch periods/free periods ONLY and if missed

can not be rescheduled.

Students must have a list on Naviance at the time of the scheduled meeting.

Feedback will be provided on their list as well as answers to questions about the

college application process. This is not meant to be a meeting covering the

entire process. Just providing feedback and answers to specific questions.

Check your email at the end of this meeting (sent 9/26 @ 8:30pm).

What about the parents?

Parents can contact their child’s college advisor and/or their guidance

counselor.

Most information can be delivered via the above methods but if a meeting is

necessary it will be scheduled at the discretion of the counselor/advisor.
