Spiritual Formation Series

For Adults

Sept. 30 “Living a Life of Simplicity”/ “Continuing

the Legacy”

Puzzle Solved!

Last week, we weren’t sure where this banner came from. Thanks to Alice Jo & Stanley DeFries, now we do!

“The banner that is pictured here was a gift to FBC Lawrence from Alice Jo. Her favorite hymn is I Feel the Winds of God

Today, and years ago asked a former Sioux Falls College student of ours to create the banner. The artist is Carol Rowat

Bath. She was so artistically gifted that she was asked to create many banners for Green Lake. This banner hung in our

Ottawa home for many years; then Alice Jo hung it

in the choir room at FBC Ottawa. When they were

ready to do some decorating in that part of the

church we asked if we might take the banner

back. We moved to Lawrence, hung the banner in

our kitchen for some years. THEN, Alice Jo gave it

to FBC Lawrence. We just couldn’t bear to throw it

away. (Note: We also have a smaller version in our

kitchen now.)” ~Stanley DeFries

Within the next few weeks, Justice Matters will be con-

ducting our house meeting process, gathering together

in homes across Lawrence to share the work of justice.

Last year, First Baptist joined with twenty other congre-

gations to share this important process. This year, you

will be invited to join in a house meeting to learn more

about justice (and injustice) in our community, and how

you can help to respond.

Wednesday Nights in October

October will be filled with fun and learning. And you are

invited to be a part of all of it! Look at these offerings:

October 7 – It’s Game Night! Because we will be hosting

Family Promise, our meal and game time will both be in

the new Narthex, behind the sanctuary. Bring a board

game that you’d like to play with others, and join in the

fun.

October 14 – It’s time for another Hymn Sing! We will

gather together to sing your favorite hymns. Be ready to

share a hymn, and perhaps a story that goes along with it. October 21 – It’s time to continue looking at our spiritu-

al gifts. We will look at the many ways in which God has

blessed our church—and you are an important part of

that. We will be consider the results of this last summer’s

3 Colors of Ministry study. If you have a book, but

haven’t filled out the questionnaire, you have time to do

so now. Let Pastor Cheryl know if you would like to visit

about your results. Or if you would like a book, let Pastor

Cheryl know, because we still have a few available. Even

if you didn’t take part in last summer’s combined Sunday

School study, come and help us discover the areas where

we, as a church, are most gifted, and those areas where

we can use some work.

October 28 – Fall fun night! Plan on having a fun time as

we gather together for games, costumes, and more. Look

for more details in a later Leaflet.
