WELCOME
Westminster Presbyterian Church is a covenant family of believers called by God to fulfill His purposes here in Laurel, and as a staging ground for worldwide kingdom growth where we seek to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ – to fill the earth with disciples, subdue it redemptively for God’s glory, and worship Him joyfully. We are being redeemed and equipped by the Spirit to build up one another until the Lord returns.
ORDER FOR THE CELEBRATION OF PUBLIC WORSHIP AND HOLY COMMUNION
SEPTEMBER 10, 2017
* Congregation Standing
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP Lisa Badley
Be Thou My Vision
RESPONSIVE CALL TO WORSHIP*
I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands and crying out with a loud voice,
“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and
honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
-Revelation 7:9-11 (ESV)
INVOCATION
HYMN OF PRAISE* The Church’s One Foundation
THE CHURCH’S ONE FOUNDATION
PROFESSION OF OUR CHURCH’S FAITH*
I believe in God the Father Almighty; Maker of Heaven and Earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

OFFERING PRAYER

Come to Me, All Who Labor
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION AND CHANGE
SERMON Rev. Mike Allen
Called Out - The Dysfunction of Presumption 1 Corinthians 10:1-13
CORPORATE AND RESPONSIVE CONFESSION OF SIN
Eternal and merciful God, You have loved us with a love beyond our understanding and You have set us on paths of righteousness as we journey to the land You have promised. Yet, like our forefathers, we have strayed from Your way; we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed through what we have done and what we have left undone. As we remember the lavish gift of Your grace symbolized in baptism and at the table we praise You and give You thanks that You forgive our presumption. Grant us now the grace to die daily to sin, and to rise daily to new life in Christ, in whose strong name we pray. Amen. (Hear now our silent and individual prayers of confession)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. AMEN.
HOLY COMMUNION
Minister: The peace of the Lord be with you!
People: And also with you!

BENEDICTION
HYMN OF REFLECTION
Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken
Hasten on from grace to glory, Armed by faith and winged by prayer; Heav'n's eternal days before me, God's own hand shall guide me there. Soon shall close my earthly mission, Swift shall pass my pilgrim days. Hope shall change to glad fruition, Faith to sight, and prayer to praise.
