Message from the Pastor Mensaje del Pastor Dearly Beloved in Christ:

Our annual parish Stewardship Fair is finally here and I am very excited! We invite everyone to please stop by at the parish Family Life Center at St. Patrick’s this Sunday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We will be showcasing various ministries and groups in our parish. Come, learn about these different ministries, and become more involved in the parish through your participation in these ministries!

By virtue of our baptism, we have all received various gifts of faith from God our Father. St. Peter therefore reminds us that “As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace. Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God; whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 4:10-11). We all have a role to play in the house of God.

Every one of us is called to be a good steward. A steward is one to whom has been entrusted something of value. For us, it is the gift of our faith in Christ Jesus, who died to give us new life. Regarding this, St. Paul gives this clear exhortation: “Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Now it is of course required of stewards that they be found trustworthy” (1 Corinthians 4:1-2).

It is not enough for us to simply privately identify ourselves with the Christian faith; we have to demonstrate this faith in word and in action in a manner that reflects our sense of gratitude to God. Just like the first disciples who were sent to “go out!” and proclaim what they have received with gratitude and joy, we too are sent forth every day to exercise through word and deed what we have been entrusted with by God through our baptism – the gift of our faith. We do this through the sharing of the gifts of our Time, Talent and Treasure; and the various parish ministries provide us with the avenues to share and exercise these gifts.

Finally, our Parish Pastoral Council is initiating a Pastoral Plan for the parish. A pastoral plan is like a spiritual roadmap that helps us to grow as a parish family through the establishment of spiritual goals and objectives. We are inviting everyone to participate in this noteworthy endeavor. Please complete the short survey on page 13 and let your voice be heard. The survey is also available on our parish website.

May we continue to work for a unified Holy Family Parish, united in the joy of the Holy Spirit and in charity, as missionary disciples, amen!

Your servant-leader in Christ,

Fr. Jude Ekenedilichukwu Ezuma

P. Jude Ekenedilichukwu Ezuma

25th Sunday in Ordinary Time: September 19 That through our service and our sacrifice we may grow closer to Jesus and help others to know the love and care of Our Lord.

“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Mark 9:35

Jesus teaches us that we are called to love one another. Love involves sacrifice. Sacrifice is a word that many of us don’t like to hear. We think it means that we must give up something that we want. However, the literal meaning of sacrifice is “to make holy,” from the words “sacer” = sacred and “facere” = to make. In other words, we make our lives holy by sharing our gifts in the service of God.

LOVE IS THE ANSWER

I may have all the gifts in the whole world, all the money, and live in the most beautiful building, but if I have no love in my heart, I am described by Saint Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians 13 as an “empty gong.”

Love is kind and gentle; love does not keep a record of hurts. Love is the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to humanity. Love brought Christ our redeemer and king to suffer at the hands of His creatures. Love led our Creator to the cross, and for the sake of love, He gave His life. What more can anyone tell me about love? What greater love has anyone than the very One who laid down His life for sinful humanity -John 15:13. God is Love, to live and to love, is to live in God.

We are all created in the image and likeness of God, the world will know that we are Christians and co-heirs with the Son of God, if we love one another - John 13:35. How much love do I show to my beautiful wife that has decided to spend the rest of her life with me? How often do I sincerely tell my husband or my wife that I love him or her? Why am I always in church praying to God when I cannot help the old lady that lives in my neighborhood and has nothing to eat this evening? Do I know that all the good things I have received came from God and not only through my effort, and I will give account of how I used them to God?

God allows the rich and the poor to live together, so that those who are rich will share their resources with the poor. I do not need to have everything before I share with those who have little or nothing. Remember that God loves a cheerful giver -2 Corinthians 9:7. God will be happy to see me share, even from the little I have to live on, for the sake of love. The love of God compels us to think like Saint Augustine, “to fall in love with God is the greatest romance, to seek Him is the greatest adventure, and to find Him, the greatest human achievement.” God is love, and ‘Love’ is the answer to all our problems. With love in our hearts, we can turn the world around.

Let us pray:

Dear God, I entrust to your loving care and protection all the families on this island. Please bless their hearts and teach us all to love you our God above all things, and to love and treat our neighbors as we would love and treat ourselves. Amen.

Catechetical Sunday

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY 2021

This year the church Celebrates Catechetical Sunday on September 19, 2021 and today all the Catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. The theme for this year Catechetical Sunday is “Say the word and my soul shall be Healed”. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel.

Catechetical Sunday is also an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the mission of Christ. As a catechist, you are responding to a call to share the gift of faith with others even as you deepen your own faith and you have continued to catechize amidst the Covid 19. This call may have reached you through our Priests, the director of religious education, or through your role as a catholic. But know that this calling ultimately comes from God whose Holy Spirit Inspires and guides. At this critical moment in our society, we need to make Christ know and cherished.

If you are a catechist-parent, youth ministry leader, volunteer- thank you for sharing your gift and using it to serve others.
