MALAWI MOMENTS Letter from Fr. Davie-
On behalf of St. Joseph Namalaka Parish I would like to thank you and the whole delegation for making it to Malawi
for a visit at your Sister Parish.
We appreciate the efforts and the initiatives you are taking in our Parish.
Let me also thank you for all the items that were donated to us. We are always appreciating how our Parish has
been transformed in terms of Liturgical Vestments and vessels as well as clothes and sporting equipment that were
donated to the Parishioners. We don't take all that for granted. May the good Lord bless you and St. Brendan Parish.
Special thanks to the pastor Fr. Nick Wichert for being part of the delegation. Being busy people all of you, you
spared your precious time for the sake of your brothers and sisters here. May the Good Lord bless you abundantly.
Be assured that we are very committed in our Sister Parish relationship and that all your donations
will be cared for and put to proper use. The projects you initiated are worthy appreciating and as
St. Joseph, we are committed to see how we can keep nourishing our Sister Parish Relationship
with St. Brendan Parish.
Continue praying for us as we pray for you. Let's help each other to grow in faith, hope and love so that our relationship
should help us to reach heaven one day.
God bless you.

Old Testament
DAVID TAKES JERUSALEM
2 Samuel chapters 6 & 7
David was in Hebron when the peo-
ple of Israel and Judah demanded
that they wanted him as king. Histo-
rians estimate 1003 BC as the date
when David established the king-
dom in the new capital of Jerusa-
lem, which is also called Zion, or the
City of Zion. This city stands at a
height that makes it good for de-
fense. Also, the fact that people
have to walk UP to reach Jerusalem
reminds us of someday going to
heaven. Many of the psalms are
psalms of ASCENT, meaning that
the people were chanting these
psalms together as they walked UP-
HILL to Jerusalem. Psalm 122 is a
good example. “I rejoiced because
they said to me, ‘We will go UP to
the house of the Lord.’ Now we have
set foot within your gates, O Jerusa-
lem. Or Psalm 125, “They who trust
in the Lord are like MOUNT Zion.”
New Testament
THE DANGER OF RICHES
Mark 10: 17-31
A rich young man came to Jesus
asking how he could have eternal
life. Jesus answered the question
by reminding the young man about
the Ten Commandments. The
young man was already following
the commandments, and had done
so all his life. What Jesus said next
was such a surprise to the young
man that “he went away sorrowful.”
Jesus actually invited the young
man to sell all he had and come
and follow him. The man wasn’t
ready to do that! It’s hard to give up
riches to follow Jesus. We can’t
help but wonder what happened to
that young man. Did he finally—one
day—give up his riches and follow
Jesus?
LEARNING ABOUT
OUR FAITH
The Church is One,
Holy, Catholic, and
Apostolic
The Church is one.
We have one Lord
and we share one
faith. We receive one
life in the Holy Spirit.
The Church is holy.
The Father, Son, &
Holy Spirit are holy.
In the sacraments, we
receive all we need to
make us holy.
The Church is
catholic.
Catholic means uni-
versal. Jesus told the
apostles to teach all
nations. The Church
reaches out to all.
The Church is
apostolic. Jesus
founded the Church
with the apostles. The
pope and bishops
continue their
mission today.
The Church is one,
holy, catholic, and
apostolic. These are
the Marks of the
Church.

Every person’s finances
and family situation is
different. Jesus makes it
clear that it matters not
how much one gives, but
that it is planned,
calculated, at least
somewhat sacrificial (see
Luke 24:1-4), and not
simply from what is
“leftover” at the end of the
month. We propose the
tithe (10%) as the ideal
every family can consider
working towards. This
means taking steps to give
5% to one’s parish, and
5% to other charities or
