In one of last month’s sermons, I shared a little ditty and several people asked if it could be published, so here it is…

Written by: Pastor Paul Stroup 9/19/19 and delivered as part of a sermon. Our desire to grow or our goals in the Christian life ought to be towards all the virtues that Peter lists in 2 Peter 1.

Dear Church Family, Many new and exciting things are happening within Clinton Presbyterian Church since Pastor Paul’s arrival. Our new church mission says it all. A Place to: Belong, Believe and Become. I would like to share what this new mission statement means to me as I try to expand my faith and giving. CPC feels like a place where I BELONG and it is a good feeling. We all have different time, talents, and gifts. Some of these we share more openly and some we keep closer to ourselves or a small group of people. As we become more comfortable with the people around us, we are usually more willing to share our gifts. We fit in; we BELONG. Personally, I have seen CPC grow and it has been a joy being a part of that. Because I am a part of the body, I have found myself giving my talents on committees, giving my time helping with events or maintenance, and giving my treasures as monetary pledges. I BELIEVE that Clinton Presbyterian Church offers an exciting and loving ministry. I see it through Pastor Paul, our missions, very successful VBS, our talented musicians, our youth group and their leaders, our Sunday School and teachers, and our many church activities. Most especially, I BELIEVE in the love and grace of Jesus Christ every time I see one of you. CPC is where I receive my spiritual nourishment. This is where our (as a church family) children are/were nurtured. I feel that I have BECOME stronger in my faith. We all were challenged to read the Bible in a fun and interesting way this year. I accepted that challenge and enjoyed the readings and the process. I feel that as I have grown, I have been part of a church that has grown. Clinton Presbyterian Church and their leadership has worked hard to BECOME exactly what God wants them to be. As we acknowledge being a part of this body, we can take this time to declare a financial pledge. This is our opportunity to be good stewards of what we have been given. We speak loudly with our time, talent, and gifts. What we choose to do with these things can tell others that living as Christ taught us is our ultimate priority. May you give generously to the church's ministry and mission this year through your time, talents and gifts. As you give, may you know the joy and the satisfaction of what an important presence this church is in many lives. Many of you have deeper roots in CPC than I do while some of you are newer. I am sure that each one of us has our own CPC definition as a place to Belong, Believe and Become. I encourage everyone to get involved with our new mission. Please complete the enclosed pledge card and either mail it to the church office in the enclosed envelope or place it in the offertory on Sunday, October 27, 2019. Thank you for being a part of this church family and for sharing the gifts that you have been given. Blessings to All, Alvin Brandenberg

*There are extra pledge cards for anyone who needs one on the back table in the sanctuary*

The Mission Committee met Sunday September 8. It is a busy time for us. We served over 50 at the Community Dinner. Special thanks to Pastor Paul for the delicious pulled pork. Also to the committee members for potatoes salad, cookies, green beans, watermelon and chips. We are getting the knitting baskets organized. Get ready to have busy hands during church. Thanks to all who have agreed to help with the Apple and Pork candy booth! The Spaghetti Dinner will be November 3rd. Look for volunteer sign-up sheets after Apple and Pork. Second Pres in Bloomington is working with a group called Children of the Philippines. The person in charge there would like to provide a free lunch after church on October 20th in Clinton. Contact Pastor Paul for more details. And last but not least we will help with the Blood Mobile on Thursday December 1st. Mostly God Bless you! What a great mission giving and volunteering congregation! May God continue to bless us as we bless others!
