Case Studies AFFIN BANK BERHAD: Assessment Centre Affin Bank, a leading provider of financial growth and innovative services, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Affin Holdings Berhad which is listed on Bursa Malaysia. Challenge The design of an Assessment Centre as part of the recruitment process for the Affin Associates Programme. The intention of the Assessment Centre was to objectively assess the potential and suitability of potential recruits that had shown in their application and first interview to possess the basic requirements for joining the Affin Associates programme. Solution In developing and creating the Assessment Centre, the following areas were highlighted as required by Affin Bank: Assistance in designing an appropriate competency matrix. Identification and/or creation of a psychometric instrument for candidate completion. The instrument(s) to help identify personal and managerial competencies, personal values and motivation. Design of competency-based interviews and associated questions. Design of appropriate activities to enable candidates to demonstrate behavioural and personal traits, knowledge and skills. The activities were chosen for their suitability for practice and observation of particular identified aspects of each individual’s traits, motives and skills. Design of a half-day Assessment Centre with scripted scenarios and activities, interview questions, competency assessment matrix, psychometric instruments and included aptitude test instruments. Training of Affin Bank Assessors in general principles of competency- based assessment centres and specific training on scenarios, activities, interviews, observation and recording. Challenge

The design of an Assessment Centre as part of the recruitment process for the Affin Associates Programme.

The deliverables to Affin Bank included the competency matrix and assessment scheme for decision-making and the complete Manual on Assessment Centre, including base timetable, all exercises, weighting matrix, decision-making matrix, and copies of psychometric / aptitude instruments or supplier details of third-party instruments.
