participating in either the

Knights of Columbus Ultra-

sound Initiative (kofc.org/ultra-

sound) or a local, regional or

national March for Life.

For the Ultrasound Initiative a

council must identify a Preg-

nancy Care Center that is certi-

fied to use and maintain an

ultrasound machine and complies with all regulations

of the Ultrasound Initiative. Then the council must

raise half the cost of the machine (the council finan-

cial obligation ranges from $3,000 to $30,000 de-

pending on the cost of the equipment). The Supreme

Council matches council funds.

The March for Life program requires that the coun-

cil must involve 100 council members/family mem-

bers/parishioners in a local, state or national March

for Life. For complete details of either program con-

tact William O’Brien at 203-752-4403 or e-mail

[email protected].

Youth — Participating in the Knights of Columbus

Coats for Kids program meets all requirements in the

Youth Activities category. To meet the Coats for Kids

requirements a

council must pur-

chase and donate

a minimum of 8

cases of coats —

12 coats per case

— at a cost of

$16.25 per coat. For

more information go to the website Kids

kofc.org/coats or contact Bob Ennis at 203-752-4616

Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP)

Through the Knights of Columbus Refund Support

Vocations Program (RSVP), councils, assemblies

and Squires circles “adopt” one or more seminarians

or postulants providing them with financial assistance

and moral support in this featured program.

RSVP money is used by seminarians and those in

religious formation for personal expenses. But

Knights provide more than financial support. They

provide moral support too, by writing letters to the

“adoptee,” sponsoring dinners for them, inviting him

to join the Order and, most importantly, praying for

vocations.

Last year, financial help from 2,628 councils, as-

semblies and circles to future priests, sisters and

brothers, exceeded $3 million. Since 1981 the Order

has provided $53 million in aid through RSVP, help-

ing more than 80,000 men and women follow their

vocations.

Qualifying councils and assemblies receive a $100

refund for every $500 donated, up to a limit of $2,000

donated to an individual, while the refund for Squires

is $20 for every $100 donated. In the Philippines and

Mexico, councils and assemblies receive the equiva-

lent in local currency of $50 for every $250 donated.

Councils qualifying for the RSVP plaque (or sticker)

and receiving a refund meet all requirements of the

Church Activity category on the Columbian Award Ap-

plication form (#SP7). Note: Once a council receives

the RSVP plaque. Subsequently, for each year they

qualify, they receive a sticker to place on the plaque

(there are five spaces for stickers). Once those are

filled, a new plaque will be issued. For more details

on the RSVP program, visit www.kofc.org/vocations.

Coats for Kids

It may be warm now,

but soon many children

in need will face the cold

winds and falling tem-

peratures of winter with-

out a warm coat.

Providing them with one

is the goal of Coats for

Kids, a Knights of

Columbus featured pro-

gram.

Encourage your coun-

cils to participate in the

intitiative and remind

them that by success-

fully holding a Coats for

Kids program, they fill all

requirements — pur-

chasing and distributing at least eight cases of coats

(12 coats per case) — they meet all requirements for

the Youth Category on the Columbian Award Applica-

tion (#SP7).

State, district and local councils may purchase new,

high-quality winter coats for boys (sizes 8-18) and

girls (sizes 7-16) through the Supreme Council for

$16.25 per coat plus shipping by using the Coats for

Kids order form which may be found on

www.Kofc.org/coats.

nominees sent to the Supreme Council office. The
