September 2020
Hel lo friend! This summer has brought challenges and changes for everyone here at the shelter. To raise money for all the cats and kittens, our humans are hosting the first Virtual Walk for Cats in September and the first Online Auction in November. Harmony House also re-opened for adoptions by appointment in late June. All the adopters and staff members wear masks and practice social distancing. Happily we kitties do not have to stay six feet away. We can march right up to the adopters and introduce ourselves. As the adopter and staff member leave each cat room, another staff member wipes down the door handles, shelves and all surfaces to keep everyone safe and healthy while visiting the shelter. This is the new normal at Harmony House.
With most of Chicago’s spay/neuter clinics shut down during the height of the pandemic, the city is now experiencing an explosion of kittens. Our humans transferred in a trio of Independence Day kittens named Firework, Sparkler, and Firecracker. Also admitted were two of the sweetest littermates ever: Boo Berry and her brother Count Chocula.
We kitties are so grateful for your donations. Your generosity provides food, litter, medications and cleaning supplies to care for all the cats and kittens here at Harmony House. The staff is booking spay/neuter surgeries for each of the babies to get them ready for adoption. Thank you from all of us. We were saved through your kindness and feel so lucky to have your support.
Be safe, be well, and be kind to everyone!
Love, Skelly

Online Auction in NovemberHarmony House is holding its first ever Online Auction, Saturday, November 7th through Sunday, November 15th. A preview of the auction items will be available Nov 1st – 6th. This year you can bid from the comfort of your own home. Mark your calendar so you do not miss this fabulous event just in time for holiday shopping. Winning bidders will pay through the auction website and pick up their items at Harmony House in person.
If you have an item you would like us to consider featuring, please send a photo, description and the value of the item to [email protected] for the committee to evaluate. No auction donations are being accepted at the shelter at this time.
Walk for Cats in September2020 is the 38th Walk for Cats, and our first ever Virtual Walk for Cats! This Virtual Walk can take place on your street, in a nearby park, or you can even walk on a treadmill at home. Everything is on the honor system. You can walk the typical two-mile distance all at once, in smaller amounts over several days, or choose a shorter or longer distance that is just right for you. Walkers should complete their Walk on one of these three days: Friday – Sunday, Sept 25-27, 2020. Be sure to register by Sunday, Sept 27th, to receive your 2020 Walk-shirt designed by Kristi Richter. Walkers who register after Sept 27th are not guaranteed a shirt. Walk shirts will be shipped on Oct 6, 2020. The Walk brochure is posted on our website. A link to Online Walk Registration is also available on our website.

Captain Space, who now goes by Banks, is living the good
life. He is in charge of both the home and the dog, Maddon.
And, yes, he stole the dog’s bed.

I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on Scone. She’s
fitting in terrifically! After about 2 days of hissing and growling, they
both had a new best friend to chase around. While my previous
cat was in a foster home, I had to realize Scone hasn’t been
exposed to a lot of household things. She’s still learning what she’s
allowed to jump on, knock off counters, etc. but she’s adapting
well. She likes crawling under the covers, looking out the window,
and grappling and sleeping in the cat tree. No issues with her
transitioning to the current food and she eats it happily.
I’ve attached a photo of her and her big sis, Miriam.
All the best, Jamie
