A Note from the Pastor Fr. Michael Fragoso

Today I’ll be with some of our fellow parishioners and other fellow pilgrims in St Peter’s Square in Rome for the canonization of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. She was a simple woman who wanted to do God’s will for her. It was on a train that she had a vision of Jesus and they spoke to each other. He called her “my little one” and she called him “my own Jesus”. She saw in that moment exactly what He wanted her to do: to minister to the poorest at a time of great poverty in a very poor country. I have met women who once they were convinced that I was correct in my diagnosis they did everything possible to have their children functioning again. No feeling sorry. No asking “why me?” Just an iron will to get it done. All I had to do was point the way. Blessed Mother Teresa was like that. Jesus said he would be with her but he never spoke to her again. She missed that closeness and wrote about it but it never slowed her down. She did was she was asked to do. With the help of the Holy Spirit she was able to mobilize people of all religions and from all over the world to help her. There are crazy atheists who claim that she loved the suffering of the poor so much that she would deny them medical care. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact she organized roving clinics that would bring newly discovered Sulfone medications to those afflicted with leprosy in Calcutta. Why do these people hate a woman who only did good? I think they object to her pro-life witness. In her Nobel Peace Prize speech, Mother Teresa threw down the gauntlet. She said: “I was surprised in the West to see so many young boys and girls given into drugs, and I tried to find out why - why is it like that, and the answer was: Because there is no one in the family to receive them. Father and mother are so busy they have no time. Young parents are in some institution and the child takes back to the street and gets involved in something. We are talking of peace. These are things that break peace, but I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct war, a direct killing - direct murder by the mother herself.” Children are not stupid. They can know that their parents really love them because they did not kill them. But if the parents are pro-abortion, death was a real possibility. How can there be peace in such a household where the love of God is missing?

The Bread and Wine that are being offered at our Eucharistic Celebration this week are in loving memory of Jocelyn Holland. This is a gift from Deacon Patrick & Kim Smith.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Candle that will be lit this week during our Eucharistic Celebration is in loving memory of Jocelyn Holland. This is a gift from St. James Religious Education.
