Fall Class Picture Day

and Individual Headshots

September 20, 2018

How does it work?

Please send your children in their “best” Uniform attire. Add their

own flair, like a hat or a cool, opened button up to accent their uni-

formed shirt. Colorful skirts, shoes and head accessories are encour-

aged. LABEL all accessories. Please do not send extra outfits for the FALL pictures, children will not be changed.

(You may wear any outfit you choose for the SPRING Pictures in April! )

All children will be photographed in their class group. If you do not wish to pur-

chase, there is no obligation. While it may be tempting to arrive later and linger,

please sign in early to communicate with staff and allow the teach-

ers to engage the children so that we can efficiently get each child/class pictured.

Sibling pictures will also be taken.

Pictures will be returned 2-3 weeks from the photo day and you

will get a chance to review, purchase, and then take home to share.

Lifetouch accepts Money Order, Checks or Credit/Debit Cards and prices usually

range from $13.00-$70.00 with discounts for multiple packages of siblings/families.

AFTERNOON SHOWERS!!!!

Please check the weather daily and dress fro inclement changes. Label all rain gear!

Showers have been common in the afternoons, and we appreciate your cooperation during pick up to keep the parking lot clear and dismissal

orderly.

What should I do to get prepared for a storm?

Talk to your children about Hurricanes, Water Safety and the Family Evacuation Plan

Make sure you have a disaster readiness kit and adhere to all emergency personnel instructions. Keep in contact

with family and friends. During a loss of power,

text messaging works best, save your phone bat-

tery.

The State of Florida recommends the

following:

Ensure you have batteries to power

flashlights and radios

Ensure that you have cash and gas for your vehicle

Ensure your first-aid kits are restocked

Ensure your communications devices are fully charged

Back up important computer files on an external drive

Place important documents in a water proof container

Develop a communications plan with family/friends

Make sure your prescription and non-prescription medications are accessible

Monitor local news for updates

SCHOOL FAMILY PHOTO CONTEST Children’s brains use images to

govern behavior. Children are able to “think” in pictures. A visual schedule is helpful when teaching

children daily routines and helps them feel safe.

Show us your routines, get creative!

How To Do It...

1. Families choose a daily routine below…

Daily Routines

Getting ready for school Eating Times (Breakfast, Snack, Din-

ner) Cleaning up Bedtime Arrival/Departure from school

2. Take pictures of your child doing the steps of the routine. (Visual routine booklets typically describe 3-5 steps of a daily routine. There is 1 step in each picture.) 3. Type a description underneath the selected photos and print the final books. 4. Email questions to: [email protected]

Submit Final Routine Book by Deadline:

September 21, 2018

Reminders:

Photos should

be clear. See school

family board for sample books.

We will host a

school family vote for the most creative book. The

family with the best visual booklet will be featured in FAMU ERCCD’s

newsletter, Instagram, and published in the 2019 year book.

For your Home Literacy: “Fall” in a good book…

Time to Sleep by Denise Fleming. In this fun story, Bear smells winter in the air and knows that it is time to go to sleep, but before she does she must tell Snail. One animal after another shares the news that winter is on its way. Denise Fleming’s gor-geous illustrations and a humorous ending make Time to Sleep a winner. Ages 3+

Giving Thanks by Jonathan London and Gregory Manchess. The father in this story teaches his son to give thanks for all of the things in nature that they en-counter during a walk in the woods — for the sun and moon, frogs and crickets, a fox, and more. A lovely book to read before taking a fall hike. Ages 3+

Leaf Jumpers by Carole Gerber and Leslie Evans. A fantastic introduction to identifying leaves! Leaf Jumpers begins by describing kids playing in leaves, a good hook to capture kids’ attention, and then provides descriptions of eight common leaves. One of the highlights of Leaf Jumpers is Leslie Evan’s graphic, glowing illus-trations. Ages 3+

The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons. I love this description of a boy’s relationship with his apple tree. Throughout the year, Arnold enjoys play-ing in his apple tree. He collects apple blossoms in the spring, builds a tree house in the summer, gathers apples in the fall, and hangs garlands of popcorn on his tree for the birds in the winter. Ages 3+

QUEEN LIKE ME: THE TRUE STORY OF GIRLS WHO CHANGED THE WORLD by Kimberly Brown is a vibrant and adventurous learning experience that invites readers to explore the courageous and dazzling stories of 15 authentic women leaders of the past and present whose contributions to the world are cap-tured in the form of rhyme! A dynamic array of women (including Queen Nefertiti, Coretta Scott King and First Lady Michelle Obama) are featured! With bold and ma-jestic visuals, it's terrifically fun and attractive and delivers quality content for teach-ing history, building self-esteem and developing leadership skills. QUEEN LIKE ME

belongs in the libraries of families and schools interested in creating enjoyable avenues to education, providing multicultural exposure and nurturing successful children.

SUPERHERO LIKE ME: THE TRUE STORY OF CHAMPIONS WHO CHANGED THE WORLD by Kimberly Brown is a vibrant and adventurous learning experience that invites readers to explore the courageous and riveting sto-ries of more than 30 authentic leaders of the past and present whose contributions to the world are captured in the form of rhyme! A dynamic array of heroes (including Ramses The Great, Frederick Douglass, Satchel Paige, Dr. Martin Lu-ther King and Miles Davis) are featured! With bold and electrifying visuals, it's ter-rifically fun and attractive and delivers quality content for teaching history, build-

ing self-esteem and developing leadership skills. Dr. Frederick S. Humphries, President Emeritus of both Tennessee State and Florida A&M University, says in the foreword, "This literary work could not come at a better time." SUPERHERO LIKE ME, along with its compan-ion book, QUEEN LIKE ME, belongs in the libraries of families and schools interested in creating enjoyable avenues to education, providing multicultural exposure and nurturing successful children.
