Argentina, 1963Currently living in Israel

BACKGROUND 1963- Born in Argentina1981-1985 - Graduated from the academy of Fine Arts at the De Cuyo University in Argentina. After she graduated in the middle of the eighties in an oppressive and violent atmosphere in Argentina, she immigrates to Israel where the siutation is at the very least not less conflicted.1985 - Immigrates to Israel.1986 – 1989 -Educated in the art of etching and drawing at the Avni Institute in Tel Aviv Studied under famous artists among them Ian Rachwerger that have inspired her work and contributed to her knowledge in art.1989 Employed as an artist in the Calman Shemi studio.2000 - Currently teaching drawing at a variety of institutions among them the prestigious Yad Lebanim Museum in Petach Tikva, the Amamit University in Jerusalem and private courses.1997 – 2000 - Graduated from Ort Career Institute in interior design.2002 - Represented by Jacques Soussana Gallery in JerusalemAdriana Naveh’s women images are symbolic of the love and passion she feels toward her environment as she inspires the onlooker to visualize the Beauty of Womanhood.

With the use of an interesting medium, plaster speckle and large open spaces Naveh gives new meaning to simplicity in composition. A background of household artifacts highlights women engrossed in thought, caught in a simple soft pose. The intimate subjects are inspired by everyday life. Light is another important motif in Naveh’s paintings represented by vibrant colors from her pallet and creating visual illusions of magical perfection.

After having graduated the Academy of fine Arts at the ‘De Cuyo’ University in the '80, Naveh, born 1963, left an oppressive and violent Argentina and immigrated to Israel.

In Israel, she enrolled to the ‘Avni Institute of Art’ in Tel Aviv and studied etching and drawing under famous artists such as Ian Rauchwerger. Upon graduation, she began working for the influential Israeli artist Calman Shemi, perfecting her skills in various techniques. She continues to work in his studio to this day. She has been teaching art in various institutions around the country, and completed studies as an Interior designer.

Venezuela,Lives & works in Israel.

BACKGROUND:

Alex Meilichson was born in Meridia, Venezuela. He immigrated to Israel in his teens, and studied sociology at Tel Aviv University. Meilichson now divides his time between Israel and New York and travels a great deal each year to Norway, Paris and Provence where he gains much of his inspiration from the local people.

Alex Meilichson has developed a figurative style, using a palette of brilliant colors. His favorite media are ink, acrylic and oil on canvas. He paints Judaic themes, landscapes and still life in an expressionist ‘Ecole de Paris’ approach.

Alex Meilichson was attracted to painting since early childhood, his talent soon becoming apparent amongst his classmates. He immigrated to Israel with his family, and later studied Sociology and Political Science at the Tel Aviv University.

However, his deep yearning for knowledge and for the arts propelled him to study History of Art at the ‘University of Berlin’, then return to Venezuela and study at the ‘Christobal Rojas School of Art’ in Caracas. Still unsatisfied, he continued studies at the ‘Art Student’s League’ in New York. Two of the artists who have influenced him considerably are Marc Chagall and Manne Katz.

Later Meilichson joined his close friend the painter Zamy Steynowitz, with whom he shared a studio and painted together for the next nineteen years, first in Caracas and then in New York.

Meilichson traveled extensively around the world, visiting thirty-five different countries in the Americas, Europe and the Far East. He visited many art monuments and museums, absorbing the influences of diverse cultures. He has a large private collection of several thousand books and numerous artworks.

Meilichson has exhibited in Venezuela, Israel and the United States.

Crimea (U.S.S.R.), 1959

BACKGROUND:

Tanya Wissotsky and Alexander Galtchansky were born in the same year, 1959, in Crimea (U.S.S.R.). Tanya Wissotzky lost her battle with cancer in November of 2006. She and Alexander had been living in Czechoslovakia for the last few years. Tanya was survived by her beloved husband, Alexander Galtchansky, who passed away in 2008. Their careers began in art school. Alexander studied in Dnepropetrovsk and Wissotsky in Simferopol. They continued their studies at the Kiev institute of the Arts; Wissotszky as a painter and Alexander as a book illustrator. After getting married, they emigrated to Israel. Having found themselves in a drastically different situation and place, they united their creative activities and began working together. They work in acrylic, pen and ink, and collagen specially prepared canvas. In their still lifes, one can see the excerpts of calligraphy from old English flower painting manuals as well as other calligraphic quotations that celebrate Paris in the Twenties. Their artwork has a nostalgia and romanticism of a past time. The work of Alexander and Wissotszky has received critical acclaim and success in both Israel and abroad and canbe found in public and private collections all over the world. They have had exhibitions at the Art Expo, New York, BLD New York, Galaxy Gallery in Gotenburg, Sweden, Geissing Design Institution in Hamburg, Germany, and are on permanent exhibition at the inyanei Ha'uma in Jerusalem. Tanya Wissotzky died of cancer in November of 2006.

Alexander Grinshpun's style is not made on a single level, but has an unexpected element. It is multi coloured art filled with conflicts. Still, he manages to maintain the values of traditional painting that were instilled in him during his years at the Saint Petersburg School of Fine Art. In his paintings Alexander reacts, on a certain level, to the changes in style between Realism and Abstract. With awareness to his sketch work and his high deposition of paint he opens vast spaces of choice for himself. Grinshpun sees in his art a reflection to the change that is a part of life: "Each day brings new things," says the artist, "Every minute is one of a kind. You may wake in the morning, and see the same sun that rose the day before, but your feeling is different with the change of time." So, along the years his works reflect a wide variety of emotions, shapes and meanings. The multitude of characteristics of his works makes it difficult for us to create a simple formal definition of his art. Yet, we can still state that his paintings express a form of delicate poetry that has not been exposed sufficiently to the public.

BACKGROUND Born in Fez, Morocco, Ben-Simhon immigrated to Israel in 1948, the year the state was established. He spent his childhood in Jerusalem, and after serving in the army, founded the legendary Kibbutz Eyal with friends. He studied at the 'Avni Institute of Art' and the 'Kallisher Institute for Contemporary Art', and has taught both art and graphic printing ever since.

Avi Ben-Simhon has been deeply inspired by Fauvist and Cubist painters, while creating his signature, unmistakable style. The element of design is strongly developed in his work, in composition and pallet, while the dramatic shapes and vibrant colors powerfully express his joie de vivre. His spiral-like motifs echo his Moroccan roots, each pattern forming an exceptional design in bright and effervescent colors.

Ben-Simhon’s work has been well collected and shown in multiple one-man and group exhibitions throughout Israel, France, Canada and the United States.

BACKGROUND Dorit Levi has a special and unique style all her own. The flow of color and images the joy of life, and the movement of figures create a wondrous image for the viewer. Although each work has the clear mark of Dorit, in their works one can see the influence of Blovian artist Boulange, as well as cubists Picasso, Leger, and Braque.

Dorit was born in 1952 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and the culture and tradition of her home can be seen in her work. Her extraordinary talent brought her to study at the prestigious Wizco France Art School also located in Tel Aviv. There she was the dedicated student of one of Israel's greatest artist, Edwin Salomon.

Dorit Levi aslo brings to each artistic creation her experiences living in Africa and in Uganda. Africa, with its vast warm savannah can be felt in her use of warm, bright colors. Uganda's colorful markets and people in embroidered garb, imbue her images and background compositions with an enchanted feeling.

Dorit's works are remarkable in her use of gold leaf and the enormous attention to detail and complex composition. Each time one looks at a Dorit Levi painting new aspects and new configurations are discovered.

BACKGROUND:

Esther Myatlov was born in Russia in 1976, where she graduated the ‘School of Fine Arts’ in her hometown. In 1995, she immigrated to Israel where she continued her art studies at the “Avni Institute of Art” in Tel Aviv. During her studies, she experimented with classical Russian art and with contemporary Israeli art and fused them together to create her unique style. Among others, she has been influenced by the notable French painter Ona. She also mastered the art of animation and she has created numerous animated video clips for rock bands.

Esther Myatlov’s favorite media are oil on canvas and oil on wood. She layers several thin coatings of transparent color on her chosen surface, a technique that requires much accuracy and skill. In this way, she achieves a strong illumination of the painting from deep within. She then uses fiery colors and unambiguous contours to convey a joyous atmosphere, with an ethnic-mythological flavor.

The vocabulary of her palette is also characteristic of her realistic composition. It is light and rhythmic with romantic images making music, dancing or otherwise relating. The abstract landscape is but a background for the all-important dialogue of the delicate and elegant figures. Myatlov’s style symbolizes her realistic view of the world and its people.

Myatlov’s artwork is exhibited in many private collections in the United States, Russia and Israel. Her large murals are to be found in several public buildings in Israel, and her solo exhibitions have had considerable success with the public and the media.

BACKGROUND: Marc Chagall was born in Vitebsk, Byelorussia to a poor Hassidic family. The eldest of nine children, he studied first in a heder before moving to a secular Russian school, where he began to display his artistic talent. With his mother's support, and despite his father's disapproval, Chagall pursued his interest in art, going to St. Petersburg in 1907 to study art with Leon Bakst. Influenced by contemporary Russian painting, Chagall's distinctive, child-like style, often centering on images from his childhood, began to emerge.

From 1910 to 1914, Chagall lived in Paris, and there absorbed the works of the leading cubist, surrealist, and fauvist painters. It was during this period that Chagall painted some of his most famous paintings of the Jewish shelter or village, and developed the features that became recognizable trademarks of his art. Strong and often bright colours portray the world with a dreamlike, non-realistic simplicity, and the fusion of fantasy, religion, and nostalgia infuses his work with a joyous quality. Animals, workmen, lovers, and musicians populate his figures; the “fiddler on the roof” recurs frequently, often hovering within another scene. Chagall's work of this period displays the influence of contemporary French painting, but his style remains independent of any one school of art. He exhibited regularly in the Salon des Independents.

In 1914, before the outbreak of World War I, Chagall held a one-man show in Berlin, exhibiting work dominated by Jewish images and personages. During the war, he resided in Russia, and in 1917, endorsing the revolution, he was appointed Commissar for Fine Arts in Vitebsk and then director of the newly established Free Academy of Art. The Bolshevik authorities, however, frowned upon Chagall's style of art as too modern, and in 1922, Chagall left Russia, settling in France one year later. He lived there permanently except for the years 1941—1948 when, fleeing France during World War II, he resided in the United States. Chagall's horror over the Nazi rise to power is expressed in works depicting Jewish martyrs and Jewish refugees.

In addition to images of the Hassidic world, Chagall's paintings are inspired by themes from the Bible. His fascination with the Bible culminated in a series of over 100 etchings illustrating the Bible, many of which incorporate elements from Jewish folklore and from religious life in Vitebsk. Chagall's other illustrations include works by Gogol, La Fontaine, Y. L. Peretz, and his autobiographical Ma Vie (1931; My Life 1960) and Chagall by Chagall (1979).



Chagall painted with a variety of media, such as oils, water colors, and gouaches. His work also expanded to other forms of art, including ceramics, mosaics, and stained glass. Among his most famous building decorations are the ceiling of the Opera House in Paris, murals at the New York Metropolitan Opera, a glass window at the United Nations, and decorations at the Vatican. Israel, which Chagall first visited in 1931 for the opening of the Tel Aviv Art Museum, is likewise endowed with some of Chagall's work, most notably the twelve stained glass windows at Hadassah Hospital and wall decorations at the Knesset.

Chagall received many prizes and much recognition for his work. He was also one of very few artists to exhibit work at the Louvre in their lifetime.

Chagall died on March 28, 1985, in Saint-Paul, France at age 97.

EXHIBITIONS:

In 1960, Brandeis University awarded Marc Chagall an honorary degree in Laws, at its 9th Commencement.

In 1967, the Louvre in Paris exhibited 17 large-scale paintings and 38 gouaches, under the title of "Message Biblique", which he donated to the nation of France on condition that a museum was to be built for them in Nice.[9]:201 In 1969 work began on the museum, named Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall. It was completed and inaugurated on 7 July 1973, on Chagall's birthday. Today it contains monumental paintings on biblical themes, three stained-glass windows, tapestries, a large mosaic and numerous gouaches for the "Bible series."

From 1969 to 1970, the Grand Palais in Paris held the largest Chagall exhibition to date, including 474 works. The exhibition was called "Hommage a Marc Chagall", was opened by the French President and "proved an enormous success with the public and critics alike."

In 1973, he traveled to the Soviet Union, his first visit back since he left in 1922. The Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow had a special exhibition for the occasion of his visit. He was able to see again the murals he long ago made for the Jewish Theatre. In St. Petersburg, he was reunited with two of his sisters, whom he had not seen for more than 50 years.

In 1977, the city of Jerusalem bestowed upon him the Yakir Yerushalayim (Worthy Citizen of Jerusalem) award.

In 1982, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Sweden organized a retrospective exhibition which later traveled to Denmark.

In 1985, the Royal Academy in London presented a major retrospective which later traveled to Philadelphia. Chagall was too old to attend the London opening and died a few months later.

In 2003, a major retrospective of Chagall's career was organized by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, Paris, in conjunction with the Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall, Nice, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Nelly Panto was born and raised in Kishinev, Moldova. She graduated the Art school and the Art Academy in Kishinev Nelly Panto worked as a book illustrator and designer. Illustration of Russian classical authors (Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Kuprin) had deepen the understanding of the character’s psychology. Since 1990 Nelly Panto lives and works in Israel.

The paintings of Nelly Panto- are a modern view of contemporary art using new achievements of art’s technology. In her paintings of the last period a special attention has been given to combination of atmospheres in the evening megalopolis: flickering light, deep shadows, light, shine and attraction of the evening life.

Nelly Panto developed a unique style of painting all of her own, applying a multitude of colors in rectilinear shapes to create her images. In her recent work, the "Café Series", she paints nightlife scenes with flickering lights, deep shadows and rich density of color. These paintings evoke a feeling of nostalgia, reminding the viewer of the 1960's, which appeals to the modern urban sensibilities of our time. The base of Nelly’s Panto style is-the contrast and density of color, sparking stroke, distinctive plastics of figures and delicate psychology of the paintings’ heroes.

Dancers and musicians are the subject of many of her works and her technique lends itself perfectly to create a dynamic picture of dazzling movement and color. In contrast to these lively scenes Panto often chooses to paint a quiet introspective moment, where an elegant woman is captured observing the busy night scene that surrounds her. Nelly Panto has an uncanny ability to depict these private moments.

BACKGROUND:

Born October 25, 1881, Malaga, Spain, Pablo Picasso, became one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century and the creator (with Georges Braque) of Cubism. A Spanish expatriate painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer, Picasso was considered radical in his work and is one of the most recognized figures in 20th-century art. He is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. Among his most famous paintings are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937), his portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.After a long prolific career, he died April 8, 1973 in Mougins, France.

Picasso demonstrated uncanny artistic talent in his early years, painting in a realistic manner through his childhood and adolescence; during the first decade of the twentieth century his style changed as he experimented with different theories, techniques, and ideas. Picasso creativity manifested itself in numerous mediums, including oil paintings, sculpture, drawing, and architecture. His revolutionary artistic accomplishments brought him universal renown and immense fortunes throughout his life, making him the best-known figure in twentieth century art.

To say that Pablo Picasso dominated Western art in the 20th century is, by now, the merest commonplace. Before his 50th birthday, the little Spaniard from Malaga had become the very prototype of the modern artist as public figure. No painter before him had had a mass audience in his own lifetime. The total public for Titian in the 16th century or Velazquez in the 17th was probably no more than a few thousand people - though that included most of the crowned heads, nobility and intelligentsia of Europe. Picasso's audience - meaning people who had heard of him and seen his work, at least in reproduction - was in the tens, possibly hundreds, of millions. He and his work were the subjects of unending analysis, gossip, dislike, adoration and rumor.



He was a superstitious, sarcastic man, sometimes rotten to his children, often beastly to his women. He had contempt for women artists. His famous remark about women being "goddesses or doormats" has rendered him odious to feminists, but women tended to walk into both roles open-eyed and eagerly, for his charm was legendary. Whole cultural industries derived from his much mythologized virility. He was the Minotaur in a canvas-and-paper labyrinth of his own construction.

He was also politically lucky. Though to Nazis his work was the epitome of "degenerate art," his fame protected him during the German occupation of Paris, where he lived; and after the war, when artists and writers were thought disgraced by the slightest affiliation with Nazism or fascism, Picasso gave enthusiastic endorsement to Joseph Stalin, a mass murderer on a scale far beyond Hitler's, and scarcely received a word of criticism for it, even in cold war America.

No painter or sculptor, not even Michelangelo, had been as famous as this in his own lifetime. And it is quite possible that none ever will be again, now that the mandate to set forth social meaning, to articulate myth and generate widely memorable images has been so largely transferred from oil paintings and sculpture to other media: photography, movies, television. Though Marcel Duchamp, that cunning old fox of conceptual irony, has certainly had more influence on nominally vanguard art over the past 30 years than Picasso, the Spaniard was the last great beneficiary of the belief that the language of oil paintings and sculpture really mattered to people other than their devotees. And he was the first artist to enjoy the obsessive attention of mass media. He stood at the intersection of these two worlds. If that had not been so, his restless changes of style, his constant pushing of the envelope, would not have created such controversy - and thus such celebrity.

In today's art world, a place without living culture heroes, you can't even imagine such a protean monster arising. His output was vast. This is not a virtue in itself - only a few oil paintings by Vermeer survive, and fewer still by the brothers Van Eyck, but they are as firmly lodged in history as Picasso ever was or will be. Still, Picasso's oeuvre filled the world, and he left permanent marks on every discipline he entered. His work expanded fractally, one image breeding new clusters of others, right up to his death.

Moreover, he was the artist with whom virtually every other artist had to reckon, and there was scarcely a 20th century movement that he didn't inspire, contribute to or - in the case of Cubism, which, in one of art history's great collaborations, he co-invented with Georges Braque - beget. The exception, since Picasso never painted an abstract picture in his life, was abstract art; but even there his handprints lay everywhere - one obvious example being his effect on the early work of American Abstract Expressionist painters, Arshile Gorky, Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, among others.

Much of the story of modern sculpture is bound up with welding and assembling images from sheet metal, rather than modeling in clay, casting in bronze or carving in wood; and this tradition of the open constructed form rather than solid mass arose from one small guitar that Picasso snipped and joined out of tin in 1912. If collage - the gluing of previously unrelated things and images on a flat surface - became a basic mode of modern art, that too was due to Picasso's Cubist collaboration with Braque. He was never a member of the Surrealist group, but in the 1920s and '30s he produced some of the scariest distortions of the human body and the most violently irrational, erotic images of Eros and Thanatos ever committed to canvas. He was not a realist painter/reporter, still less anyone's official muralist, and yet Guernica remains the most powerful political image in modern art, rivaled only by some of the Mexican work of Diego Rivera.

Picasso was regarded as a boy genius, but if he had died before 1906, his 25th year, his mark on 20th century art would have been slight. The so-called Blue and Rose periods, with their wistful etiolated figures of beggars and circus folk, are not, despite their great popularity, much more than pendants to late 19th century Symbolism. It was the experience of modernity that created his modernism, and that happened in Paris. There, mass production and reproduction had come to the forefront of ordinary life: newspapers, printed labels, the overlay of posters on walls - the dizzily intense public life of signs, simultaneous, high-speed and layered. This was the cityscape of Cubism.

BACKGROUND:

Magritte was born in Lessines, in the province of Hainaut, in 1898, the eldest son of Léopold Magritte, who was a tailor and textile merchant,[1] and Régina (née Bertinchamps), a milliner until her marriage. Little is known about Magritte's early life. He began lessons in drawing in 1910. On 12 March 1912, his mother committed suicide by drowning herself in the River Sambre. This was not her first attempt at taking her own life; she had made many over a number of years, driving her husband Léopold to lock her into her bedroom. One day she escaped, and was missing for days. She was later discovered a mile or so down the nearby river, dead. According to a legend, 13-year-old Magritte was present when her body was retrieved from the water, but recent research has discredited this story, which may have originated with the family nurse.[2] Supposedly, when his mother was found, her dress was covering her face, an image that has been suggested as the source of several of Magritte's paintings in 1927–1928 of people with cloth obscuring their faces, including Les Amants.[3]

Magritte's earliest paintings, which date from about 1915, were Impressionistic in style.[2] From 1916 to 1918, he studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, under Constant Montald, but found the instruction uninspiring. The paintings he produced during the years 1918–1924 were influenced by Futurism and by the offshoot of Cubism practiced by Metzinger.[2] Most of his works of this period are female nudes.

In 1922, Magritte married Georgette Berger, whom he had met as a child in 1913.[1] From December 1920 until September 1921, Magritte served in the Belgian infantry in the Flemish town of Beverlo near Leopoldsburg. In 1922–1923, he worked as a draughtsman in a wallpaper factory, and was a poster and advertisement designer until 1926, when a contract with Galerie le Centaure in Brussels made it possible for him to paint full-time. In 1926, Magritte produced his first surreal painting, The Lost Jockey (Le jockey perdu), and held his first exhibition in Brussels in 1927. Critics heaped abuse on the exhibition. Depressed by the failure, he moved to Paris where he became friends with André Breton, and became involved in the surrealist group.



Galerie la Centaure closed at the end of 1929, ending Magritte's contract income. Having made little impact in Paris, Magritte returned to Brussels in 1930 and resumed working in advertising.[4] He and his brother, Paul, formed an agency which earned him a living wage.

Surrealist patron Edward James allowed Magritte, in the early stages of his career, to stay rent free in his London home and paint. James is featured in two of Magritte's pieces, Le Principe du Plaisir (The Pleasure Principle) and La Reproduction Interdite, a painting also known as Not to be Reproduced.[5]

During the German occupation of Belgium in World War II he remained in Brussels, which led to a break with Breton. He briefly adopted a colorful, painterly style in 1943–44, an interlude known as his "Renoir Period", as a reaction to his feelings of alienation and abandonment that came with living in German-occupied Belgium. In 1946, renouncing the violence and pessimism of his earlier work, he joined several other Belgian artists in signing the manifesto Surrealism in Full Sunlight.[6] During 1947–48, Magritte's "Vache Period", he painted in a provocative and crude Fauve style. During this time, Magritte supported himself through the production of fake Picassos, Braques and Chiricos—a fraudulent repertoire he was later to expand into the printing of forged banknotes during the lean postwar period. This venture was undertaken alongside his brother Paul Magritte and fellow Surrealist and 'surrogate son' Marcel Mariën, to whom had fallen the task of selling the forgeries.[7] At the end of 1948, he returned to the style and themes of his prewar surrealistic art.

His work was exhibited in the United States in New York in 1936 and again in that city in two retrospective exhibitions, one at the Museum of Modern Art in 1965, and the other at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1992.

Popular interest in Magritte's work rose considerably in the 1960s, and his imagery has influenced pop, minimalist and conceptual art.[8] In 2005 he came 9th in the Walloon version of De Grootste Belg (The Greatest Belgian); in the Flemish version he was 18th.

BACKGROUND:

On one of his visits to Israel, Marc Chagal said to Rina Sutzkever, "... your father painted in words, and you write in colors...”

In her recent artworks, Sutzkever combines fantasy, imagination and the luster of reflection. Worldly objects intervene and penetrate one another, simultaneously dispersing and vanishing in the universe like a dream, Sutzkever's dream. Contemplating her paintings for some time, one’s imagination is evoked to experience a surrealistic and unexpected adventure.

Sutzkever stands out among contemporary artists as steadfast rock against which changing artistic trends break and disappear. Since she started her artistic career, she has remained faithful to her classical style and to her lyrical compositions. She possesses an innate talent that enables her to express a rich spectrum of feelings. The women in her portraits are beautiful and romantic, and their delicate smile symbolizes an aspiration to the indefinable. Her flowers and trees are painted expressively in the style of Pissaro.

Rina Sutzkever was born in Moscow in 1945, in a home filled with the love of art and culture. Her father - the poet Abraham Sutzkever – was always surrounded with friends who were painters or sculptors, and Marc Chagal - a close friend - illustrated several of his works. The Sutzkevers immigrated to Israel in 1948, where some years later Abraham won the ‘Israel Award’ in literature.

Sutzkever’s first steps as a professional artist may be traced back to her work with the painter Nahum Gilboa. She continued working with painter Moshe Rozenthalis in his studio, where she developed a realistic style faithful to Nature. Then came her first group exhibition in Yad-Labanim in Tel Aviv.

Sutzkever went on to study sketching with Professor Schwartzman and participated in several more solo and group exhibitions, with her 1974 exhibition at ‘Leiweek Art Gallery receiving much attention from fellow artists and the public. There, she showed mostly portraits and still-lifes in intense dark colors, reminiscent of seventeenth-century Dutch painting.



Sutzkever continued to perfect her style in the Tempera-Oil mixed technique at the ‘Earnest Fox School’ in Vienna. She then had her first international breakthrough with a solo exhibition in New York.

Many well-known artists, such as Mordechai Ardon, as well as prominent figures such as Mr. Shimon Peres, Israel's former Prime Minister admire her paintings.

BACKGROUND: Slava Ilyayev was born on May 11, 1970 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Ilyayev began studying art in his hometown in 1991; after immigrating to Israel in 1995, he continued his studies at the renowned Avni Institute of Art in Tel Aviv.

Ilyayev participated in his first major exhibitions in 1999, at the Art and Sculpture Union in Tel Aviv, and at the Safari Gallery in Jerusalem. Exhibits soon followed throughout Israel and abroad, as well as shows in the United States.

Ilyayev's works are characterized by the heavy texture he creates by applying oil paints with a palette knife. The use of light and shadow in his works is inspired by the changing of the seasons. In addition to painting, Ilyayev teaches are in schools and academies in Israel, an endeavor which first began in 1998.

BACKGROUND: Yuri Tremler (born Yuri Trembovler) was born in the Ukraine in 1961. He attended the College of the Arts in Kharkov. He later continued his studies at the Kharkov Art & Design Academy as well as at the Gall Design School in Germany. After that, he returned to Kharkov and worked as a metal smith theater decorator.

Tremler immigrated to Israel in 1996 where he worked in crafts, industrial design, interior design, jewelry design, and participated in many exhibitions. After exploring new media to work within, he finally decided to dedicate himself almost exclusively to painting in 1998.

The artist's striking and spontaneous palette clearly expresses a gamut of emotional states and moods. Painted with the accuracy of a designer and the delicacy of a colorist, his works both inspire and calm. He uses the female form and contrasts it with geometric shapes in his paintings. The contrast between the stasis of his stylized female silhouettes and the dynamic interaction of his brightly colored patches and complex textures creates a feeling of internal peace, balanced with the harmony of the external world.

Tremler's works reveal a pronounced decorativeness, giving them a luxurious and pleasurable tone. The richness of the artist's palette is eye-catching. The vertical and horizontal lines in one of his geometric works swim and blur. Crystalline squares and objects blend with feminine silhouettes, moving whimsically from light to shadow, reflecting each other - flowers and women, vases and goblets - coming to a halt in scattered, multicolored cubes. Tremler's paintings move from the rational to the emotional. The images in his masterful works saturate the emotions and remain in the imagination.

Dimitri Polak, 1922-2005

Since he was very young, he spent most of his time learning drawing and painting, mostly from his father, who was also a gifted artist. After completing a military service in the Russian army, during World War II, he completed his degree in art studies.

Dimitri Polak's work combines a refined use of color, with an “Expressionist” approach to apply the pigment to the surface of his paintings and original graphic works. The surfaces of his paintings on canvas are built up texturally; it exhibits an unusual relief quality that at once catches the eye, and also affects the colors that he layers (glazes) one upon the other. The effect is - a shimmering light that plays throughout his warm and inviting landscapes. Collectors all over the world enjoy Dimitri Polak's works, and he is now (in his ‘80’s) enjoying his greatest international recognition and acclaim.

The artist Dimitri Polak was born in a small village near Kiev, Ukraine, once part of the USSR, in 1922.Coming from a lineage of artists, Polak Learned painting and drawing in the Ukraine from his father, a gifted and famous artist in Kiev, during the beginning of the last century. The Second World War stopped his art for a time while he served his country in the Russian Army. After the war he completed his degree in art studies at the Kiev Institute of Arts. Till 1991 he spent most of his life as a well-known artist in the USSR and Europe, taking part in many one-person and group exhibitions. In 1991, as the gates of the USSR opened, he immigrated to Israel, where he now and maintains his studio.

In a classical blend between impressionism and Naive art he uses Mediterranean light to express color with exquisite and charming landscape compositions, elegantly painted in a unique manner that has survived through his family for generations. His work has been exhibited in numerous one-man and group exhibitions throughout the countries of the former Soviet Union as well as Europe, Israel & the U.S. His most special influence was from the impressionist artist Claude

BACKGROUND Fernando de Jesus Oliveira,, Ferjo, was born in Bahia Brazil, in 1946. Ferjo is one of the most dynamic and intriguing artists on the contemporary international scene. His surreal, even metaphysical way with a canvas has been earlier lauded with Ferjo winning the prestigious Crescent Scholarship at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the New York Council for the Arts Award for Excellence in portraiture and interiors. Ferjo's signature style continues to excite our imagination and perception.

From 1974 - 1979, Ferjo trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts - an institution long-recognized for its tradition in realist painting and sculpture. During this five year period, he began painting cubist-style landscapes in the tradition of the early Georges Braques, eventually moving to realist portraiture. This is perhaps best exemplified in a mock group portrait (1978-79) of the faculty of the Pennsylvania Academy in which Ferjo posed his subjects in sitting positions those of Leonardo Da Vinci's "Last Supper". Having received special honors on two occasions from the Pennsylvania Academy (in 1978, and again in 1979), Ferjo's mastery of the medium and subject matter in realist painting became widely recognized in galleries that emphasized this kind of work. Since leaving The Academy, the artist's technical virtuosity led him to explore various themes and styles, ranging from realism to surrealism. Ferjo’s wildly lyrical interpretations of famous artistic motifs, such as the works by Leonardo Da Vinci, or his "homage" series to important historical figures such as Picasso, Van Gogh and Chagall have made Ferjo an artist of merit.

Those with backgrounds in the arts will recognize Ferjo as an artist who can draw, render and paint with an extraordinary life-likeness. Ferjo’s ability to paint realistically and then to extend realism into a hallucinogenic surrealist vision, filled with symbolic connotations taken from the world of dreams and fantasmagoria, is one of the more startling attributes to be found in recent painting. Whether Ferjo is representing automobiles or portraits, still life arrangements or sports events, imaginary or life-like portraits, there is convincing evidence of his talent as a technician of painting. There is also evidence of Ferjo’s versatile and shifting imagination, as he moves with considerable agility from one motif to another, often shifting styles in the process.

Michael Milkin 91 Tanglin Road




BACKGROUND:

Michael Milkin was born in Kharkov in the Ukraine in 1964.

As a astudent of architecture at the towns university, he participated in several exhibitions. After graduating, he worked as an architect, but all the while kept painting and participating in public exhibitions. Soon after, Milkin started teaching fine arts and in the late nineties, his works were exhibited in art shows all over Ukraine, France and Germany.

Milkin concentrates on still lifes and landscapes, which he paints dramatically with thick, expressive brushwork and brilliant colours.

In late 2001 Milkin and his family decided to immigrate to Israel and he dedicated himself to art. Milkin’s work is exhibited and collected throughout the United States, Israel, Ukraine and France. He has had several one-man group exhibitions in Israel and abroad.

BACKGROUND:

Moshe Leider attended the Art Academy in the Soviet Union. In 1978, Leider immigrated to Israel and studied art at the Art College in Ramat-Hasharon.

Moshe Leider art work uses water colors, acrylics and mixed media in most of his art works.

His paintings are peaceful and colorful idyllic scenes, oftentimes featuring fashionable ladies posing with parasols and adorned with large brimmed hats.

For the past eleven years, Leider has been teaching art and displaying his art in various collections throughout the world, including Israel, Canada, France, Japan and the United States.

BACKGROUND:

Born in Kharkov, Ukraine in 1972, Yana studied at the local High School of the Arts. Yana went on to graduate as a teacher of art from the State Art College Ukraine. In 2003 she immigrated to Israel.

Her work is influenced by the works of Dufy, Picasso, Leger and Braque. Over the years Yanah has developed her own unique style. Yana Korobov’s style is full of vibrant colors and expresses emotions typically associated with bold life. When violent colors are next to each other they trick the eye into a sensation of movement. Yana uses a thick application of paint, distinctive brushstrokes and real-life subject matter to emphasize geometric forms, to distort form for expressive effect, and to use unnatural or arbitrary color. . Her use of gold and the enormous amount of detail and complex composition enables the viewer to discover new aspects in her works each time afresh

Yana paints with a sense of urgency, using the paint straight from the tube in thick, graphic brush strokes. Her choice of color varies with her moods and occasionally she deliberately restricts her palette to only a few colors. Perhaps this very technique is what draws one into the painting: the fulfillment of seeing all angles of the spectrum of life and in turn reaching a deeper understanding of how all living things are tied together. “Painting, to me, is a unique experience. Each work is a surprise and has its own personal and intuitive meaning. My paintings evolve organically from life's everyday glances. Each layer determines and guides the next.”

The favorite technique of the artist is referred to as “impasto” – a way of applying paint, specifically a thick, textured application of paint where the marks made by the brush or painting knife stay visible. The impasto style is evident in the work of Vincent van Gogh, who clearly is a defining influence of this young and upcoming Ukrainian artist.Her work has been shown in exhibitions in Israel, Europe and the United States.
