APPLICABILITY This Service Bulletin is applicable to all Intel Falcon 8+ UAVs (“Falcon 8+”).

1. Operational Impact: All users.

2. Compliance Recommended: As soon as practical.

General information The motor speed controller (MSC) internal rail tube seating of the Falcon 8+ has new securing

clips for improved motor performance and reliability.

This notice only applies to Falcon 8+ UAVs.

BACKGROUND Intel customers have reported frequent unplanned maintenance cycles. This service bulletin

provides recommended guidance to replace all motor rails. The photos below show obsolete

and improved versions of the motor speed controller securing clips. If the obsolete clips are

presently installed, follow instructions for removing and replacing with the new motor rail

design for all motor rails (two in each Falcon 8+ UAV).

Obsolete Motor Clip Design (to be replaced):

USER RECOMMENDATIONS The Falcon 8+ Drone may continue to be flown without replacing the motor rail because the

drone is equipped with a redundant propulsion system. In the event that one of the drive

trains (motor, propeller) is affected by an issue, such as the motor rail issue noted above, the

drone adapts to the situation, enabling the pilot to perform a safe landing. Nonetheless, Intel

recommends that the motor rail be replaced to improve motor performance and reliability.

To help improve performance and reliability of the Falcon 8+ UAS for all customers, Intel

recommends a replacement of each of the motor rails in the UAS. Intel has investigated

reports regarding unplanned maintenance cycles related to motors and motor rail and

identified improvements to the motor rail designed to enhance reliability of the motor rails

and motors.

For new and in-service Falcon 8+ UAVs, please refer to the service instructions in the next

section to replace the Falcon 8+ Motor Rail with the improved design as soon as practical.

Service instructions The service instructions in this bulletin are the same as in the Intel Falcon 8+ UAS User

Manual, version 2.3. Please refer to the User Manual for referenced information.

ATTACHMENTS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1. How do I determine if my Falcon 8+ UAS is included in this notice? A1. If the Falcon 8+ Drone has either version 1 or 2 motor speed controller securing clips shown in this notice, replace the motor rail to improve motor performance and reliability. Do an inspection by removing the motor rail end cap to determine the version of the securing clip that is installed on your drone.

Q2. How do I receive a replacement motor rail for my Falcon 8+? A2. For customers who have purchased Falcon 8+ UAS through a Topcon Positioning Group dealer or retail store, please contact Topcon directly for next steps to receive new motor rails. Topcon Online: https://www.topconpositioning.com/aerial-mapping-mass-data-collection/aerial-mapping/intel-falcon-8-plus-drone-topcon-edition#panel-product-support-training

Topcon Email: For Motor Rail inquiries: [email protected] For dealers, resellers, and direct Intel customers please contact your Intel Account Manager or Intel Customer Support Center in your region to coordinate advanced replacement of motor rails. Intel - North America Customer Support Center Intel Online: https://supporttickets.intel.com/?lang=en-US Intel Phone Number: (800) 257-5404 Business Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Pacific Time) For countries outside North America, please dial your country access number (http://www.business.att.com/bt/access.jsp) and then dial the toll free phone number after the access code: 800-257-5404. Q3. Are all Intel Falcon 8+ systems affected? A3. Intel has investigated these incidents and has determined that the motor failures are dependent on a variety of factors. Not all Falcon 8+ systems experience these reliability incidents. However, to improve motor reliability and performance, Intel recommends replacement of the motor rail. Q4. How long does it take from the time that a system is delivered until a customer sees this potential reliability issue? A4. Since there are several factors involved, it is not feasible to determine if or when a particular Falcon 8+ UAV may exhibit the issue. If you have related data available, please share it with Intel for further investigation. Q5. When will the improved motor rails be available? A5. We are quickly implementing the improvements to the motor rails. We expect to have initial availability of the improved motor rails by end of June 2018.
