Service LearningTourS

ContribuTourIntensive Level- one community service or environmental project for entire tour

ContribuTour programs are high-end, intensive service learning and travel tours that stress immersion into one locale, with some touring, but most of the time spent on community service or an environmental project.

Humanitarian Deeds…For Our Global NeedsWorldStrides International Discovery Service Learning programs are based on volunteer travel experiences that define who we are and how we relate to our planet. The goal of all our service learning programs is to facilitate worldwide travel experiences that raise our social consciousness and environmental awareness.

Our trips therefore aim to blend education about science, nature, wildlife, and the environment with meaningful opportunities for humanitarian service and volunteering that can make a real impact on our world.

Our service learning programs support social, emotional, and cognitive growth to prepare your students for life beyond the classroom. They will get all the benefits of a traditional WorldStrides International Discovery educational travel program, while also helping build communities in countries around the world. Service learning programs are also an excellent way for your students to gain class credit for community service, a prerequisite for graduation in many schools.

EcoTourIntroductory Level- 2-3 service or volunteer experiences

EcoTour programs emphasize nature and wildlife as part of a touring culture, and are designed to inspire travelers as they explore a new destination and culture.

VolunTourMid-level- 3-4 service or volunteer experiences

VolunTour programs offer a more in-depth focus into the culture of a country, its people and its natural beauty. These programs are designed to integrate service and volunteering as part of appreciating the culture of a country and its natural beauty.

All service learning itineraries combine experiential travel experiences with a study of the environment and community service or volunteering. You can select from three specific levels of programs which have varying levels of service involvement.

ServiceLearningThemeS

WorldStrides will assist you in choosing or custom-designing a Service Learning Program that is most appropriate for your group’s age range and your specific areas of interest.

As we target your group’s thematic emphasis (Science, Nature, or Community), we will build in service experiences, volunteer programs or charitable visits that will introduce your group to global environmental and humanitarian concerns. Many of our service experiences will offer you a hands-on opportunity to address some of the global issues concerned, or will be directly linked with the broader theme of your program.

Community and ContributionDo you want to share learning with overseas communities or interact with other cultures through involvement in a socially relevant community project? We have over 100 global locations where you can discover another culture by assisting a local community.

Science and the Environment Would you like a better understanding of environmental issues and a deeper awareness of how communities interrelate around the world? Biology or earth sciences programs can include study of the rainforests, volcanoes, migrations, rural land use, and much more. Our destinations feature biodiversity, ecology, and conservation, and introduce students and adults to a wealth of species and ecosystems.

Nature and WildlifeAre you looking for environmental volunteer work, or to get involved in sustainable projects that help repair our fragile planet? Blend travel, immersion in nature, and observations of the planet’s wildlife with practical work on environmental projects and endangered species conservation.

crediT &cerTificaTeS

Earn Credit Our accreditation across the United States allows us to offer students the unique opportunity to earn high school or college credit. Middle school students can earn high school credit and high school students can earn college credit on any international travel program. Students opting for credit will need to complete all of the pre-tour, on-tour, and post-tour coursework. Once the coursework is completed, their work will be evaluated, and upon completion the students will receive an official transcript.

Service-hour CertificateWhile on tour, the number of service hours completed by your students will be recorded and reported to our educational staff. Once your group returns home from your service learning tour, they will be awarded a service hours certificate indicating the type of work completed, the number of hours completed, and the destination in which the work was performed. Our educational team will be pleased to work with any school counselor or administrator to confirm service hours completed.

All of our Service Learning programs can be customized to meet your exact requirements. You can add or reduce days on tour; add, replace or remove activities; or increase or decrease the amount of volunteer work included in the program. In addition, you can include a service or volunteer experience on most of our travel programs. Our service activities are available at destinations on six continents.

Customize Your TripAt WorldStrides International Discovery programs, we greatly appreciate the effort you make in planning a tour and recruiting your group. That’s why we feel it is both appropriate and important that you be rewarded for your efforts. We offer great teacher rewards or cash donations for organizing a service learning tour with WorldStrides International Discovery programs.

In addition to always traveling for free on your group’s trip, you can earn a spot on one of our all-inclusive International Conventions, or you can earn cash bonuses to use as you like, or as a cash donation to groups or organizations you will be assisting on your service trip. On tour, your group will have the opportunity to present an organization with a donation check on behalf of your group.

Let Us Give Back To You

I can’t put this program in any kind of a box. How do I describe watching our students meet and play with kids at the Mahabodhi School in Ladakh or the Tibetan Children’s Village, with its 2000 resident exiled kids? How do I explain sitting for thirty minutes inches from the nuns at the remote, mountainous Chulichan-Rizong monastery as they sang Buddhist mantras? How do I capture the distinguished Dr. Navina Jafa, who has accolades from Condi Rice, Henry Kissinger, and Benazir Bhutto, in a private session with our group for two hours, educating us, helping us to tie it all together somehow, making us laugh, leaving us with so much of depth to consider? Thank you, India. Thank you.
