TOPLINK

Summary

The TOPLINK project aims at demonstrating the benefits for ATM stakeholders (ANSPs, Airlines, GA and Airport operators) of the deployment of new System Wide Information Services, including Meteorological Services, Aeronautical Services, cooperative Network services, and Flight Information services (for their non‐safety‐critical aspects).

TOPLINK:  context & objectives

3

• Context:– TOPLINK part of SESAR1, Large Scale Demonstration Activities (2014-2016)– TOPLINK builds on top of TOPMET, SESAR1 Demonstration project (2012-14)

• Main objective– In-situ large scale demonstration of Initial SWIM services for non-safety

critical applications (Yellow Profile)– Target: PCP AF5 (i-SWIM)

• Targeted steps beyond TOPMET :– From « ad-hoc » Web services towards standardized SWIM services– In-flight Air-Ground connectivity

– More data providers ( improved MET, AIM, ATC, NM, AOP,…)– More data consumers (Airspace Users: Major / medium /regional Airlines,

General Aviation; ATM: Multiple ACCs, Approaches; Airport operator)

TOPLINK: a sample of partner’s expectations

• Airline perspective: – To improve Airline cost efficiency, the company on its own has done most of

the « easy actions »; further gains will only go through a better cooperationwith ANSPs and Airports

– TOPMET has enabled us to understand what we can gain in reducing the impact of MET, and what exactly we need to do to reach it

– We expect from TOPLINK to allow us demonstrating a first batch of tangible gains, and starting the deployment of an iterative improvement process

• ANSP perspective:– To improve ANSP traffic flow management efficiency, as e.g. a cumulated

14000+ mn delay has been generated by MET convection over the FIR Bordeaux in only 11 days over May‐Aug 2014 (resulting in # 800+ k€ losses for impacted Airlines)

– Based on the TOPMET outcomes, we trust that at least a 20% decrease of these delays can be targeted and demonstrated in the TOPLINK project
