A Poem for Parents

Roots and Wings

by Dennis Waitley

If I had two wishes, I know what they would be I'd wish for Roots to cling to, and Wings to set me free;

Roots of inner values, like rings within a tree; and Wings of independence to seek my destiny.

Page 30: Session 2015 Secondary 4 NA & NT - Ministry of Education

Roots to hold forever to keep me safe and strong, To let me know you love me, when I've done something wrong;

To show me by example, and help me learn to choose, To take those actions every day to win instead of lose.

A Poem for Parents

Roots and Wings

Page 31: Session 2015 Secondary 4 NA & NT - Ministry of Education

Just be there when I need you, to tell me it's all right, To face my fear of falling when I test my wings in flight;

Don't make my life too easy, it's better if I try, And fail and get back up myself, so I can learn to fly.

Page 32: Session 2015 Secondary 4 NA & NT - Ministry of Education

If I had two wishes, and two were all I had, And they could just be granted, by my Mom and Dad; I wouldn't ask for money or any store-bought things.

The greatest gifts I'd ask for are simply Roots and Wings.

What our former students say

Page 83: Session 2015 Secondary 4 NA & NT - Ministry of Education

What do our former students say…

• On why she pursued the PFP route

– ‘I chose the PFP option which allowed me to enter

my dream course, which might have been more

difficult to fulfill through the O-levels route.

The JAE COP was

12 points then.’

Jacyline Ong,

PFP in Business Administration,

Page 84: Session 2015 Secondary 4 NA & NT - Ministry of Education

What do our former students say…

• On her experiences in the PFP programme

– ‘We take modules which prepare us for the

Diploma course we eventually pursue. This

makes learning relevant to us and hence more

enjoyable.’

Page 85: Session 2015 Secondary 4 NA & NT - Ministry of Education

What do our former students say…

• On why she pursued the DPP route

– ‘I felt the preparation time of 5 months to

the O-levels was relatively short and I

might not have been able to cope with the

pace. I also thought the hands-on and

project-based approach was more suitable

for me.’

Page 86: Session 2015 Secondary 4 NA & NT - Ministry of Education

What do our former students say…

• On her experiences in the DPP programme

– ‘The programme prepares me for my Diploma

course in Polytechnic at a more manageable

pace. It is a great opportunity as I can be more

focused as the modules are based on the

course I am majoring in.’

Ho Ying Yi,
