INTRODUCTION The Seven Wonders of the World are

impressive monuments regarded with awe and wonder. In the past, there were the seven wonders of the ancient world that amazed

people who had the fortune to see them. Today, there are some spectacular monuments that

are just as impressive as the ancient ones. The New Seven Wonders Foundation in Switzerland

received around two hundred entries from across the world, and it finally short-listed

twenty one finalists. In 2007, the final list of the seven modern wonders were announced in

Lisbon, Portugal.

The new seven modern wonders of the world are comprised of: 1. the Taj Mahal of India 2. The Great Wall of China

3. Christ the Redeemer statue of Brazil 4.Machu Picchu of Peru

5.Petra of Jordan 6.Colosseum of Italy

7. Chichen Itza of Mexico.

is a mausoleum located in Agra, India one of the most

recognizable structures in the

world built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan

in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz

The Colosseum was used for many purposes. Some purposes included animal exhibitions, plays, and re-enactments of various historical events such as Roman war victories. Other purposes were for brutal executions such as Christian executions.

Chichen Itza is the second most popular site for visitors to Mexico. It is considered to

be one of the Seven Wonders of the New World.

Located on the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza was a large city built by the Maya people. It thrived from about 600 AD., until 1221, when

the power in the region shifted to Mayapan. Today it can be visited by tourists and

religious pilgrims alike.

Most interesting facts about chichen itza:Chchen Itza also means “at the mouth of the wall of the ITZA”In about 600 AD. Chichen Itza had started to gain importance in the region. Between 900 and 1500 AD. Chichen Itza had become a powerfull capital. It also controlled northern and central Yucatan at the time.

At an altitude of about 8000 feet, Machu Picchu, now one of the 7 wonders of the world, is a small city in the Andes, about 44 miles northwest of Cuzco and about 3000 feet above the Urubamba Valley. Inca ruler Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui (or Sapa Inca Pachacuti) built Machu Picchu in the mid-15th century. It appears to have been a sacred, ceremonial city and astronomical observatory. The largestpeak in Machu Picchu, called Huayna Picchu, is known as "hitching post of the sun."

Petra is Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It’s a unique city carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled there more than 2000 years ago. They made Petra an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome.

The statue of Christ the Redeemer is located at the top of Corcovado Mountain. The entire monument of statue of Christ the Redeemer is 38m high with the statue accounting for 30m and overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro is one of the tallest statues in the world; the span from finger tip to fingertip is 28m and there is a small chapel housed in the base.
