CHAIRMAN’S VIEWROCKY MCMILLAN

Good Evening

A warm welcome this evening to everybody from Sevenoaks Town FC on their first ever visitto Foxbury Avenue. Also a massive welcome to our own supporters this evening , great tosee you getting behind the team.

Last Saturday was a special day for us. Its our first year in the FA cup and we have now wonour opening 3 matchesLordswood  1-0Deal Town 2-2  Replay 3-0Banstead Athletic 4-0The team played really well on the day and thoroughly deserved this famous victory

A few new faces around our team squad tonight - Jason Goodchild, Midfield makes his homedebut . Jason was previously with Ashford Utd , where he won the league last year. He nowlinks up again with Adrian Stone. George Savage has joined us from Whitstable Town andafter impressing in our win at Erith Town FC, make his home debut. Luke Miller (winger), played on Saturday.  Luke was with Ashford last year and joins us from Greenwich Borough.lastly Jo Tennant (Centre Back), plays his first match this evening . Jo was a Professional atColchester United where he captained their under 21's . I hope all our new players settle intolife at #glebefamily

It was wonderful to go to Erith Town a little over a week ago and win. 2-1  Most of the Erithside were ex Glebe lads.

Tonight's match against one of the favourites in our league will be a tough call.Having witnessed a few of our new signings over the last 2 weeks and with 1 or 2 more intonight , I think it will be a closer game than some would expect.

Following tonight we entertain Deal Town on Saturday in the FA vase- as always, your supportwould make a big difference.

I hope you enjoy the match.

Rocky

Senior HonoursWinners 2015/16  London FA  Senior TrophyWinners 2015/16 Kent Invicta League CupChampions 2016/17 Southern Counties Eastern Footballleague 1st DivisionRunners-up 2016/17 London FA Senior Trophy

Glebe FC were founded in 1995 by the present Chairman &his wife, Rocky and Grace McMillan.

From humble beginnings with just 1 under 8 team, the clubhas progressed at various stages, today hosting 20 JuniorTeams, 4 vets sides, 1 Ladies Senior Side and of course theFirst XI, with over 300 members.

We are based in Chislehurst Kent, with 15 acres of grounds.Glebe, in the last couple of years have moved in and built awonderful new sports complex, comprising of 5 pitches, a newstadium pitch , floodlit training area, multi-purpose Gym anda brand new Social Hub.

It hasn't always been easy. For years Glebe were nomads, winning every Junior Trophy that could be won, including 10London County Cups at various ages, but never seemingly ableto find 'a home of its own'. However we never gave up andmoved into our 'New Home' in September 2014.

Page 5: Sevenoaks Town 5 Sept 2017 - Amazon S3 · who cares. So to Erith Town and ‘old’ Glebe versus ‘new’. It was confusing to see Golding, Tobin, Carson et al playing in red and

Also in 2014 Glebe FC won the prestigious 'London FAStandard Charter Community Club of the Year Award',voted by the Executive Committee of the London FA.

After progressing through the age groups and becominga regular feature in Kent Youth Leagues, it was decided bythe Committee back in 2010 to form a Senior Section. Weare now in our 5th Season. The initial 2 years weground-shared at Holmesdale FC. This was only going tobe a short term stay as we were desperate to find our ownvenue. When Old Elthamians Rugby Club experienceddifferences with the Landlords, we were quick off the markand signed a 25 year lease at Foxbury Avenue. With thehelp of the FSIF (Football Stadia Improvement Fund), wehave built a stadium which we are really proud of.

Glebe FC continues to make new friends in its venture asa Senior Club. Having narrowly missed out on promotionin 2015/16 (where the winners of Sheppey v Glebe wentup), Glebe went on to win step 6 by 12 points last season2016/17 as well as Runners up in the London Senior Trophy.

We have a brief yet exciting history as a senior Club, whichfollows an exceptional history as a junior Club. Hopefullymore trophies will be added in the years to come, inaddition to the Cups and League success.

This is the first of what we hope will be a series of slightly more unusual articlesthat you might not expect to see in a football programme. In this edition we haveasked our match day tweeter, Zanda Bertwistle to give his reflections on the lastfew months.

Those of us who watched Glebe home and away last season know the league waswon with a good deal to spare. By the end of the season we were 12 points clearand in the closing stages had picked off the opposition, one by one.

So who would have expected the comings and goings over the close season? Those lads are now playing in the SCEFL Premier at Erith Town. Thanks for thegood times, lads. Special thanks to Ryan Golding. I will not forget either yourgoals or your profile, less than athletic, hands on hips, scowling at and beratingthe ref.

Rocky brought in Ben to take over team affairs. Early signs were promising.Pre-season looked good but the defeat to Greenwich should have been a wake-upcall. For the first league match I was feeling confident, especially after we putLordswood out of the cup finishing the match with nine men and no goaly!

I set off early from North Yorkshire to get down for the Whitstable match whichwas a reality check. Glebe was off the pace. Rocky summed it up at the endstating team was only five weeks old – and it showed. What followed atBeckenham was worse. They pasted us. The old boy sitting next to me was inhis element, he had seen Bromley put six past Leyton Orient the previous nightand now Beckenham put six past us, “I didn’t see this many goals all lastseason”, he grinned. As for me, I lost heart tweeting with my final use of 140characters being ‘6’.

I missed Deal away in the Cup but reports were good. The replay saw adifferent approach from the lads and 3 nil might have been harsh on Deal butwho cares. So to Erith Town and ‘old’ Glebe versus ‘new’. It was confusingto see Golding, Tobin, Carson et al playing in red and black shirts but not forGlebe. What resulted was a monumental performance by Glebe. It wasappropriate that two lads who stayed with us, Jonny Murray and Flying FredObasa, got the goals. The joy was tempered in equal measures by seeinginspirational skipper Steve Springett go off injured.

The season had begun, Glebe were up and running. Cray Valley wasdisappointing but sandwiched between the Erith and the Banstead Cup tie youcan understand how it was difficult to get motivated. Not that the ‘Gaffer’thought that.

Onwards and Upwards. #GlebeFamily

The ladies are set to start the new season, staying in Division 1, with onlyone ambition; to push for the league title.

Having made a few key signings throughout pre-season, and with  newadditions to the coaching staff, the team is beginning to take shape andhas high expectations for the season ahead.

The league is set to be a tough one, with Glebe drawing newly promotedMaidstone United away  in the opening game of the season. The matchended 1 all so a positive start for the girls on the road.

The league Cup will also prove to be a challenge with the first fixtureagainst our local rivals Kent Football United, at their ground in September.

With the league being a focus this year, we ask for as many Glebe support-ers to extend their usual Saturday football fix across the weekend, and come down to Foxbury Avenue on Sundays throughout the season tocheer on the ladies.

The up and coming home fixtures are as follows (all 2pm KO):

Sunday 10th September vs Swale

Sunday 1st October vs Margate

Sunday 22nd October vs Cray Valley
