Onega House, 112 Main Road, Sidcup, Kent, UK DA14 6NE
Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to Erith Stadium for our first home game of 2020-21.
Our last game here was almost six months ago when we drew 1-1 with neighbours Welling Town on 14th March.
Six days later the country went into lockdown in unprecedented circumstances leading to the ending of 2019-20.
At that time we stood seventh in the table and were looking to equal or surpass our sixth place of the previous season.
We will never know if we would have achieved that, but we have once again kept the core of the squad and added some new faces that we believe will stand us in good stead for the campaign.
Ten days ago we officially ended 2019-20 with a 6-3 defeat to Brentford B in the London Senior Cup semi-final.
It was a great honour to be the last visitors to Griffin Park and a memorable night for everyone involved with Erith Town.
The standard of fitness, movement and football of the Bees was something we have not faced before and all credit to our lads for sticking with it and making it a great spectacle.
We should also thank everyone at Brentford Football Club who made us so welcome and looked after us.
They begin their next chapter tomorrow at the new Brentford Community Stadium with a EFL Cup tie against Wycombe
Wanderers and we wish them every success in their new home.
On Tuesday evening we suffered the heartache of going out of the FA Cup to an injury-time penalty at Tunbridge Wells.
The decision was harsh at best and having had Danny Gannon fouled at the other end only the referee to wave play on just added to our frustration.
We cannot change it however and now need to focus on a tough opening League fixture against Sheppey United.
A warm welcome to their players, officials and supporters who have made the trip and we wish them an enjoyable stay.
As we mentioned we have a number of new faces in the squad so welcome to Lewis Collier, Tolulope Jonah, Ryan Mahal, Jake Lovell, Mahmoud Joma, Mehmet Piro, Tom Ash and Alfie Eldridge.
We should also welcome back a familiar face in Adam Molloy who makes his Ites League debut after making over 100 ap-pearances for the Dockers before his summer move.
Welcome back also to Tommy Taylor and Richie Hamill who have previously worn out colours.
On Wednesday our Youth Team face Sevenoaks Town in the FA Youth Cup, kick-off 7pm,
As a result of our FA Cup exit we now travel to K Sports next Saturday for a League game.
ENJOY THE MATCH.

IT’S HISTORY Sheppey United FC was formed in 1890 by a merger of Sheerness Victoria and Invicta, and initially played at the Sheppey United Cricket Club ground at Botany Road.
The first match was at Sittingbourne on 20 Sep-tember 1890, with Sheppey running out 3-1 win-ners despite turning up with only ten players. The match report referred to us as ‘the Sheppeyites’, hence the club nickname ‘The Ites’, which remains to this day.
They were founder members of both the Southern League and the Kent League in 1894. In the South-ern League they were placed in Division Two, in which they finished as runners-up in the first sea-son, before losing the promotion/relegation test match against Clapton 5–1.
The following season they finished second again, and this time won the test match, defeating Royal Ordnance Factories 4–2 to earn promotion to Division One. At the end of the season they left the Kent League. The season also saw the club make their debut in the FA Cup when they played Millwall Athletic, but lost 4–0.
In their first season in Division One they finished second bottom of the table, but avoided relegation by defeating RETB Chatham 2–1 in the test match-es. In 1898–99 they again finished second bottom of the table but retained their Division One status after drawing the test match against Thames Iron-works 1–1. However, the following season they finished bottom of the table and lost the test match against Watford 2–1, resulting in relegation back to Division Two.
The club re-joined the Kent League prior to the start of the 1900–01 season, as well as remaining in the Southern League. However, after a single season back in Division Two, the club withdrew from the Southern League. In 1905–06 they won the Kent League and repeated the feat the follow-ing season. A third title was won in 1927–28, by the reserve team as the first team had re-joined the Southern League for that season and were placed in the English Section. However, after fin-
ishing bottom of the league in both 1930–31 and 1931–32 they resigned, and returned to the Kent League in Division One.
At the end of the 1938–39 season Sheppey fin-ished bottom of the league and should have been relegated, but the league was suspended due to the Second World War. After the war Sheppey were placed back in the top division of the Kent league for the 1945–46 season. The club then remained in Division one until the 1958–59 season when the Kent league stopped.
In 1959 they were founder members of the Aetoli-an League, which they played in until it merged with the London League to form the Greater London League in 1964. After winning Section B of the Greater London League in 1964–65, the club joined the Metropolitan League. They had a single season in the Metropolitan–London League in 1971–72 after it was formed by a merger of the Metropolitan League and the Greater London, before re-joining the new Kent League in 1972. They won the title in their first season back in the league and were league champions again in 1974–75 and 1978–79, as well as winning the League Cup in 1975–76 and 1978–79. After finishing sec-ond in 1983–84, the club re-joined the Southern League for a third spell. However, after finishing bottom of Division One South in 1989–90 they returned to the Kent League. They finished bot-tom of the table in their first season back, but a gradual improvement saw them win the league in 1994–95. Sheppey United sold the much-loved Botany Round ground to developers in 1992 to clear a massive overdraft, and this started a long and slow death for the club.
SHEPPEY UNITED
Initially this did not appear to present too many problems as Sheppey romped away with the Kent League title, whilst ground-sharing with Faversham Town, losing only two out of forty games. Ulti-mately however, as the club spent most of the 1990s trying in vain to find a new home on the Island, years of playing away from Sheppey began to take its toll, as the club moved from Faversham, to Canterbury, and then to Sittingbourne. Attend-ances fell sharply as supporters increasingly be-came disenchanted with traveling off the Island for ‘home’ games, and the club could no longer afford the rents involved.
In March 2001 the club resigned from the Kent League and their record was expunged. The senior team was disbanded until being reformed in 2003, when they joined Division Two East of the Kent County League. They finished second in their first season and were promoted to Division One East. The club was renamed AFC Sheppey in 2007, but was disbanded and reformed under their original name prior to the 2010–11 season.
In June 2013 the club merged with Sheerness East FC to become Sheppey & Sheerness United FC competing in the Kent County League Premier Division with the club playing their home games a Holm Park formerly Canning Town Gasworks and then Sheerness Steel Sports Ground. The season saw the club win the Kent FA Intermediate Chal-lenge Shield and finish runners up in the league and were promoted to the Kent Invicta League.
In the summer of 2014 the club was renamed back to Sheppey United FC.
Major investment has been injected into Holm Park including: perimeter fencing, new dressing rooms, club house refurbishments, floodlights, stands, levelling the main pitch including installing drainage and sprinkler system.
A second place finish in the Kent Invicta League was achieved at the end of the 2015/16 season gaining promotion to the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division. The Kent Invicta League merged into the Southern Coun-ties East Football League that summer forming
Division One.
2016 was a remarkable season for the club winning the Kent Senior Trophy, beating Ashford United on penalties at Maidstone United’s Gallagher Stadi-um in front of a crowd of 870, whilst Holm Park’s ground regeneration saw 715 fans flock to the stadium for a home match against Glebe.
A sixth-place finish in the SCEFL Premier Division was a great achievement in the clubs return to Step 5 of the Non-League pyramid and a SCEFL League Cup Final appearance at Tonbridge Angels losing 2-0 to Sevenoaks Town.
In the 2017-18 Season the team finished in a disap-pointing 11th place in the SCEFL Premier Division but did reach the Kent Senior Trophy Final again at The Gallagher in front of 917 spectators eventu-ally losing 2-1 in Extra time to newly promoted Whitstable Town.
The 2018-19 Season saw an improvement on the previous season with an eventual 7th place finish in the Premier Division but the points were mainly gained before Christmas and the 2019 form was very inconsistent. The positives were the an-nouncement that we run an U23s team in the coming season to fill the gap between the U18’s and Senior side and the opening of the new cov-ered Queenborough Road end stand behind the goal so we now have covered viewing from three sides of the ground.

SCEFL ROUND-UP
DEAL TOWN led the way as seven SCEFL sides progressed to the FA Cup preliminary round on Tuesday evening.
The Hoops won 4-0 at Knaphill with Ben Cardwell bagging a second half hat-trick following Luke Eldridge’s 58th minute opener.
Warren Mfula netted the only goal as today’s visitors Sheppey United moved past Frist Division side Sutton Athletic.
Corinthian scored twice in the last ten minutes to beat Sheerwater 2-1.
Louie Clarke and George Snelling scored after the visitors took the lead on the hour.
Veteran Matt Bodkin was on target for Chatham Town in their 2-0 win at East Preston with Reece Butler adding the second.
Fisher put out Horsham YMCA at St Paul’s Stadium where Robb Brown and Jack Gibbons netting in a 2-0 win.
Malik Nosike grabbed the only goal in Erith & Belvedere’s win at much-fancied first division side Kennington.
Bearsted looked to be heading through as they led Peacehaven & Telscombe 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining but a late blitz saw the Sussex side win 5-3.
Whatever was in the half-time tea at
Crowborough worked as after a goalless first half their were seven goals after the break.
The Crows twice led Crawley Down but ultimately lost 4-3.
Newcomers Tower Hamlets were 1-0 up at half-time but slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Langney Wanderers.
A late goal from ex-Docker Alex Nelson was mere consolation as Welling Town lost 3-1 at Abbey Rangers, while AFC Croydon Athletic were beaten 3-0 at home by Sutton Common Rovers.
There were also home defeats for K Sports, 2-0 against Steyning Town, and Lordswood who were beaten 3-2 by Hanworth Villa.
Wednesday evening saw Beckenham Town ease past Mile Oak with a 4-0 win in Sussex, while Matt Gething’s goal saw Hollands & Blair win 1-0 at Colliers Wood.
Canterbury City bowed out losing 3-2 at Guildford City despite coming back form two goals down.
A last minute goal saw Balham draw 2-2 at home to Hassocks, but it was a short-lived reprieve as they lost 5-3 on penal-ties, while Punjab United lost 4-3 from the spot after a 3-3 draw with Stansfeld.

UNDER 23s
The Gaffer. Under 23 manager Jim Day during his playing days at the club.
This summer saw the return of former captain Jim Day to Erith Town when he was appointed manager of our Under 23 side for the 2020-21 season.
Jim joined the club at the start of the 2017-18 campaign and played in central midfield.
It is his first step into management after spending last season playing just down the road at Welling Town where his experience helped them in their first season as a SCEFL Premier Division club.
The Under 23 side is another new addi-
tion to the club and will help the pro-gression of our new Post-16 academy side.
It means that we now have a clear path-way from our youth sections into first team football.
The team will also be a stepping stone for players returning from injury.
The under 23 side means that we have re-joined the Suburban Football League and will play in the South and Central Division.
Home games will be played at the Stadi-um on Saturday’s with midweek games also here on Monday evenings.
We wish Jim every success with the team in the coming season.

The expansion of our club’s structure continued in pre-season with the introduction of the Under 19 side.
These lads will be starting a two year development scholarship with Erith Town under the tutelage of Dave Chatwin.
Dave has worked within the professional game at Youth level and he will be look-
ing to develop their understanding of the game and their technical ability.
The team will play in the National Alliance under 19’s section which in-cludes teams from Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic.
Home games will be played here at Erith Stadium, usually on a Wednesday afternoon at 2pm.
