  • Vice-President’s Report Sherry Bellack

Hello! We are busy preparing for our last meeting before our June break and as always, there will be fun and sur-prises awaiting you at the next meet-ing.

Our last meeting was met with some skepticism when we heard it was about funeral coffin quilts, but we soon learned how this practice has actually been in existence for hundreds of years. The quilt that the ladies showed was beautifully done and their plans for its usage were a wonderful tribute to each of their quilt group members. I enjoyed their presentation and also the peek into their “shades of gray” quilt show that is coming up.

In May we will judge the four season small quilts and I have purchased some great prizes for our four seasonal win-ners. I hope that you are planning to participate; I look forward to the crea-tive way each of you would interpret the season that you either got through our creative numbering system, or se-lected out of confusion from the pro-cess!

We hope you will be able to come and enjoy the workshop and program and find some inspiration for your next project during our short break in June.

    See you then!

I was touched and inspired by Emmie Seaman’s and Diana Callahan’s presentation, entitled “Good Grief”. I think that grief and our confrontation of it in our lives has often been relegat-ed to the corners of our thoughts and this quilt is a wonderful and healthy expression of the treasure of life and our love for one another.

*WORKSHOP* The Jan Patek workshop, “Needle Turn Applique`”, sign-up sheet will be available at the next guild meeting. The fee is $75. which includes a kit that she has personally assembled.

WORKSHOP* The Ruth Powers sign-up sheet will be at the May guild meeting. The class fee is $50.00 which includes the pattern and the supply list. IMPORTANT: the pattern must be prepared on freezer pa-per before class!!!! This is normally a two day class. We only have one guild meeting before she comes.

Introduction To Picture Piecing - Ruth Powers

CONEFLOWERS pattern - If you have always wanted to try picture piecing but didn’t know where to start, this workshop will introduce you to the process in a fun and easy way using a prepared pattern and freezer paper templates.

    The Effect of Value Workshop

Nationally known speaker and teacher Elsie Campbell will be coming to EQG to speak to us about the “Value of Value” in our quilts. Not only will she be speaking to our guild meeting, but she is also offering a class on that day, “Love My Stash” .

Although it is short notice this is an exciting class that will give practical application to Elsie’s evening lecture. While using our own stash fabrics, she will teach us how to determine values and how to use our fabrics to the best advantage in these exciting quilts. She will teach us a basic block that we can then use to design quilts like these. Elsie encour-ages us to bring many colors of fabrics, not just one color family.

Since time is so short, you can pay the class fee which is $50.00, when you come to class Tuesday morning. We need for you to contact Kathy Opalka – 340-2162 (H) , 740-6776 (C) or her email [email protected], to reserve your spot and allow us time to prepare a work space for you.

2016 Quilt Show Committee—Sue Esparza & Wendy Wells

As you heard at guild in April, we have

secured TWO sponsors for our 2016

    Edmond Quilt Guild Festival of

Quilts! That means we are starting this

show in the black. What a way to

start. That means that all the wonderful

items that you will be donating for the

Artisans Market is profit to secure the

great speakers we are getting. Becky

Beierle is ready to begin accepting your

quality handmade items at each guild

meeting. We will try to have sugges-

tions to show at each guild meet-

ing. Patti Teague is also ready to ac-

cept donations for the wonderful door

prizes that so many people enjoyed

receiving. A little at a time adds up to a

great store of items for both the Arti-

    sans Market and door prizes.

We had 77 members marvel at Emmie Seaman's Coffin Quilt.

Rosters will be going out soon. They will be coming to your e-mail, so watch for an e-mail from WonderLand48. You may have already received yours! If for some reason you cannot open it, let me know and I will run off a printed copy for you, however we prefer you use the electronic copy or make your own print-ed copy. It truly saves us money.

My job is so much fun. I see everyone as they come through the door and give away door prizes. The computer makes the rest of the job easy. If you would like to be the next membership person, talk to me about it.

A huge THANK YOU to all of you who par-ticipated in the Brown Bag challenge! What beautiful quilts! There were 37 quilts donat-ed! Congratulations to the people’s choice winners!

This month I delivered 9 quilts to the Hope Center, 8 to Infant Crisis Center, 13 to RANE, and 13 to Children’s Hospital.

Several people have expressed that they’re not sure where our handmade quilts go. Primarily they go to Hope Center (Edmond), Infant Crisis Center (OKC) and occasionally Children’s Hospital. The place-mats go to Meals on Wheels (Edmond). I usually mention the number donated and where I have dropped them off in the news-letter and/or at the guild meeting.

There is such a need. They are always so amazed at the beautiful quilts we donate to them. Remember sizes are 40x40 babies, 40x60 kids, and 14x18 Placemats. I haven’t received any placemats since we did our Christmas drive in which we made 250 of them. They like to give each new client one and they continually get new clients.

I discovered a new organization we can do-nate to. It’s called RANE which are shelters around the metro that house battered wom-en and children. Many of these women and children leave home with nothing except the clothes on their backs. Can you imagine a child not having a special blanket to com-fort them during this time? It saddens me greatly that there is such a problem. I chal-lenge every small group and member to do-nate several quilts per quarter or more. Just think what an impact we can make.

Thanks to everyone for their hard work Janice

In an effort to answer lots of questions that people ask about workshops, the board approved a set of policies to help you with your plans.

In keeping with the EQG Mission Statement to support continuing growth and education for our members, the guild periodically offers quality workshops. Participation in these workshops not

only provides opportunities to meet and study under great teachers but your support and partici-pation helps the guild to defray the cost of speakers for guild meetings.

    1. Enrollment is first come first serve.

    2. Members are not enrolled in a workshop until the class fee has been paid.

    3. Workshop fees must be paid one week before the class date.

    4. No refunds will be given within one week before the class including no-shows on the day of the class.

    5. Workshops usually have a kit fee that is included in the price of the class unless otherwise stat-ed.

    6. Attendees are expected to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the workshop and should be set up so that class can begin on time. If you are late to the class, the teacher is not obligated to catch you up.

    7. Classes begin at 9:00 and are finished at 4:00 with a break for lunch. You may either bring your lunch or purchase it at a nearby restaurant.

    8. EQG workshops are offered to guild members first but will be opened to the public one week prior to the class if it has not been filled. Class sizes vary according to the teacher’s wishes.

Sign-up for workshops will be available at the guild meeting beginning three meetings before the class date. ***Read the supply list carefully and follow the teacher’s instructions accurately. Each teacher uses specific materials for their techniques and being sure that you have the exact requested sup-plies avoids frustrations and insures a relaxing, enjoyable and successful workshop for every-one.***

Example: Misty Fuse, Steam-a-Seam, Wonder Under and Pellon non-woven fusible are all fusi-bles, but each has a unique characteristic that causes the teacher to choose that one.

    EQG Workshop Policies
