3 RUNNING A SECOND COPY OF S-‐GEAR
3.0 Running a second copy of S-‐Gear The S-‐Gear License allows you to activate two copies of S-‐Gear on two different machines and run them concurrently. This is handy if you wish to run S-‐Gear on both your desktop machine and a laptop. The process for installing and activating S-‐Gear on a second computer is exactly as described in sections 1 and 2 above. Note: You cannot run more than two concurrent S-‐Gear activations. You can however deactivate one copy of S-‐Gear and activate another copy on a different machine. See section 4 on License Deactivation.
4 LICENSE DEACTIVATION
Your S-‐Gear license is not tied permanently to a single machine. You can deactivate your S-‐Gear license on one machine and reactivate on another. As with license activation, we recommend that you use the online service, as it requires only a few simple clicks. 4.0 Online deactivation Online deactivation is simple and quick. Follow these steps: 4.0.1 Access the S-‐Gear About screen; in the S-‐Gear standalone application you can access this
screen via the Help menu. From the plugin (and the standalone application) you can access
the S-‐Gear about screen by clicking the icon situated to the left of the software bar:

S-‐GEAR INSTALLATION GUIDE – v2.4 PAGE 18
4.0.4 If Online deactivation fails, the most likely cause is that the internet connection is not
working. Please refer to section 2.1.4
4.1 Offline deactivation If you cannot connect your target computer to the Internet, then we also offer an offline deactivation process using request and response codes. The steps are quite similar to the offline activation described in section 2. Follow these steps: 4.1.0 Access the About screen (see step 4.0.1).
WARNING: Offline deactivation cannot be cancelled. It must be completed.
4.1.1 Offline License Deactivation – Step 1: S-‐Gear will generate a request code which must be emailed to [email protected]. We require:
• Subject: DEACTIVATE • Your Name • Your Email Address • Your Request Code • Your License Key.
Use the copy tool to copy the request code.
We will try to respond to all offline Licence requests within 24 hours. Please make sure you provide the information requested.
You can now close S-‐Gear. The pending offline deactivation will be remembered next time you restart S-‐Gear. WARNING: Offline deactivation cannot be cancelled. It must be competed.

5 UPDATING S-‐GEAR
5.0 Updating S-‐Gear From time to time we may post updates for S-‐Gear which can be downloaded from the Scuffham Amps website. Installation of updates is exactly the same as the installation process described in section 1. It is not necessary to uninstall the previous version; the new update can be installed over the top. Your license status and User Preset data will be maintained.
6 UPGRADING S-‐GEAR FROM V1.NN TO V2.0
6.0 Upgrading S-‐Gear from V1.nn to v2.0 S-‐Gear v2.0 includes some significant changes to the parameter formatting and storage. In order to preserve existing DAW projects, we decided to deliver v2.0 as a new plug-‐in.
Ø S-‐Gear v2.0 installs the new VST plug-‐in side-‐by-‐side with previous v1 plug-‐in. In the DAW, the v2 plug-‐in will appear as ‘SGear 2’ and the older v1 plug-‐in will remain as ‘SGear’. Any DAW projects created with v1 will continue to use the v1 plug-‐in unless you replace the plug-‐in instance with a new v2 instance. You can mix v1 and v2 instances in the same DAW project. Note: Some DAW’s display the VST plug-‐in DLL name rather than the plug-‐in name, the S-‐Gear v2 64bit DLL is called, ‘S-‐Gear2_x64.dll’
Ø When running S-‐Gear v2.0 for the first time (either Standalone or Plug-‐in), your existing v1 User Presets and Impulse responses will be imported into S-‐Gear v2.0.
Ø S-‐Gear V2 can read (import) preset SFX files exported from S-‐Gear V1. However, S-‐Gear V1
cannot read SFX files generated by S-‐Gear V2.
Windows:
Ø MIDI Controller data and other global configuration settings do not get transferred from S-‐Gear v1 to v2. You must re-‐enter these settings in v2.
MAC:
Ø When running S-‐Gear v2.0 for the first time, MIDI Controller settings are captured from S-‐Gear V1. Note however that S-‐Gear V1 cannot read MIDI controller settings entered using V2.
Ø Other global options (such as MIDI channel, Knob mode etc.) are stored in the MAC OS preferences and are common to both S-‐Gear V1 and S-‐Gear V2.

7 UNINSTALLING S-‐GEAR
7.0 Uninstalling S-‐Gear on a Microsoft Windows system
If for some reason you wish to uninstall S-‐Gear from your computer, there are two ways in which this can be done:
1) Double click on the S-‐Gear setup file and follow instructions to remove S-‐Gear, or 2) From the Windows control panel select ‘Uninstall program’. Select S-‐Gear from the list of
installed programs, and then select the Uninstall option.
7.1 Uninstalling S-‐Gear on an Apple MAC OS X system If you wish to remove S-‐Gear from your MAC OS X system, you need to do this manually. You will need to locate and delete the S-‐Gear application bundle, and S-‐Gear Audio Unit plug-‐in bundle. Details of install locations can be found in the table in the Appendix.
7.2 Removing S-‐Gear V1.nn from your system (keeping S-‐Gear v2.n) S-‐Gear v2.n can be installed alongside v1. If you have existing DAW projects that use the v1 plug-‐in, then you will probably wish to keep v1 on your machine. If you do not need to maintain any v1 projects, then you can remove v1 from your system with the following steps:
To remove v1.06 from your Windows system:
1. Uninstall v2.n 2. Uninstall v1.06 3. Re-‐install v2.n
Simply delete the v1.nn plug-‐in component: /Library/Audio/Plug-‐Ins/Components/SGearAU.component
