3 million people in the United States live with
Type 1 Diabetes
![Page 2: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
Each year 30,000 people are
diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
15,000 of those people
are children.
![Page 3: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Shayne is one of those children…
This is his story.
![Page 4: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Shayne looks like most kids…
![Page 5: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
He enjoys laughing and being goofy…
![Page 6: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
He is a son and a brother.
![Page 7: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
And he loves being outside and playing.
![Page 8: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
April 9, 2012
Shayne’s life changed forever. He was diagnosed
with Type 1 Diabetes.
![Page 9: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Low or high blood sugars can take his life at any time,
they could even put him in a coma if he isn’t careful…
![Page 10: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
It’s a threat when he runs or plays…
![Page 11: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
It follows him to school…
![Page 12: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
It requires him to weigh almost everything before he eats it and
count every carb that goes into his body…
![Page 13: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
And it stops him from being just
a kid.
![Page 14: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Shayne has to check his blood sugar multiple times throughout the day
and night. That means approximately
4,000 finger pokes each year.
And countless insulin shots…
![Page 15: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Until there is a cure.
![Page 16: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Shayne, along with
many other children,
fight a quiet battle
A battle that diabetes wins too many times…
![Page 17: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
It doesn’t have to be this way…
![Page 18: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
We see a brighter future!
A future where Type 1 Diabetes will be
cured!
![Page 19: Shayne's Story](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/548d58a4b47959d12c8b46da/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
We are determined to find that cure. To give Shayne that life…
but we can’t do it alone.
We need
your help to fight this disease.
