Please keep your appointment time for rehearsing with the accompanist.

Confirm with your teacher where your recital is located.

Please arrive at least 12 minutes before the recital for tuning and seating.

Please bring a finger food to share for receptions following the Saturday recitals. (No receptions on Friday or Sunday recitals.)

Congratulations! Three members of the Shenandoah Valley Youth Symphony were chosen by audition to participate in the Senior Regional Orchestra Festival to be held on November 9 & 10 at Fluvanna County High School. Cora was 8lbs 3oz, and 19 ¼”. Christa will return to teaching on November 1.

Baroque Festival Workshop Plan now to attend the Baroque Festival Workshop on Saturday, February 2 from 9am - 3pm. This exciting day is planned for piano, flute/recorder, violin, viola, and cello students, ages 8 to 18, that are early intermediate (ex. Suzuki Book 2) through advanced. Our special guests are Dr. Jon Gibson, JMU Professor of Musicology and Mr. David McCormick, Bach Festival Executive Director and Baroque performer. They will be joined by other musicians and Preparatory Music teachers to bring you hands-on experiences with the music that you know written in the 1600 and 1700's (ex. Bach, Handel). There will be a dance class, Baroque instruments to play on, performance practice coaching, as well as informational sessions. Registration will begin on November 5!

Spread Holiday Cheer! Music is an important part of the upcoming holiday season. To share and spread the joy of music to others, we are scheduling several community performances for our students. Sign-up sheets for the following performances will be available in mid-November:

Saturday, December 8, 1:00 pm at Massanutten Regional Library. Solos or groups. No piano available. Arrive at 12:40 pm.

Wednesday, December 12, 6:30 pm at Sunnyside Communities. All instruments welcome! Solos or groups. Arrive at 6:10 pm.

Saturday, December 15, 10:00 am at Bridgewater Retirement Community. All instruments welcome! Solos or groups. Arrive at 9:40 am.

    Scholarship Funds

Consider giving the gift of music to a child this holiday season through the Preparatory Music Program. We continue to grant scholarships through a Scholarship Fund to community families who have demonstrated financial need as well as high interest in music. Without a scholarship, these students would be unable to take lessons. There are a large number of students in the after-school String Program in Harrisonburg City Public Schools this year (over 200!). Many students are low-income and cannot afford an instrument. Please consider a donation to make it possible for a student to learn an instrument.

All donations may be sent to: EMU Preparatory Music Program,

Sharon Miller, 1200 Park Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802

    Thank you!
