ANNOUNCEMENTS The Ladies’ Christmas Dinner is Thursday, December 7th, at 6PM. Bring a tea cup & saucer if you would like to participate in the tea cup & saucer exchange. The meal will be catered. Deadline to sign-up is December 1st. All ladies are welcomed.
Good Works This Christmas Instead of purchasing a large number of Christ-mas Food Boxes and donating them to the Food Pantry, this year we will be delivering boxes to individuals we know personally. If you know of someone who could benefit from receiving a box of food, please let the office know.
We will be helping Medina Home for Children with buying gifts for 15 of their resident children. There is a flyer of each child with a list of wish items on the bulletin board if you would like to “adopt” one for Christmas. If you take a flyer, sign your name next to the child’s name on the list so the office can keep up with each one. If you would like to help by donating money to buy gifts, you may place the money in the blue box. Shepherd on Call - Dale Geistweidt If you would like to receive private prayer this morning after the worship service, feel free to go to the foyer during the singing of the invitation song. Dale and Kaylyn will meet you there, and they will be honored to pray for you.
Medina Home for Children has requested cans of chili for their Grocery Run. They will pick-up the week of February 5th. You may place items in the food cabinet in the foyer.
Local Food Pantry Sugar Flour Cereal Soup Peanut Butter Canned Fruit Canned Meat Canned Vegetables
All donated food items for the local Food Pantry may be placed inside the gold trimmed cabinet that’s located in the foyer.
MINISTER’S NOTES The Whole of Man As we plow through our study on Ecclesiastes, I must admit that it is one of the most difficult O.T. books to get a handle on. The vocabulary contains obscure, perplexing words. References are made to customs, incidents, circumstances, and sayings easily understood by those to whom the work was addressed but lost to the modern mind. The book of Ecclesiastes deals with “life under the sun.” This phrase is found 29 times in the book. Solomon argues that life without God is futile, without meaning and purpose. Nature and history go around in circles. There is nothing new under the sun. Without God, work is often pointless. Wisdom and pleasure do not satisfy. Solomon also insists that wisdom is deficient. It cannot change reality. It can seek to understand reality, but a realization of things as they really are, only bring sorrow and grief. Summing it all up, Solomon wrote that any world view that does not rise above the horizon of man himself is vanity. And yet, even though we can’t reconcile all of our problems in this life, Solomon insists that we can safely trust God who knows the end from the beginning and who will ultimately justify His ways. Therefore, the wise man concludes his journal with these words: “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
