We are excited to announce that the Sisemore family has accepted the minister position and will begin November 1st. Pray for an easy transition for the family and that housing falls into place. First Sunday Luncheon next week is postponed until the second Sunday to coincide with Aggie’s for Christ on October 14th.

UPCOMING EVENTS

October 12th-14th Aggies for Christ We need host families to keep Aggies for this weekend. They will need breakfast on Saturday & Sunday as well as transportation to and from the building over the weekend. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the foyer. Game Night October 19th Bing your favorite game and finger foods and enjoy a night of fun beginning at 6:30PM at the building. ElderLink Seminar October 27th Everyone is invited to attend. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the foyer. It will be at the MacArthur Park Church of Christ in San Antonio from 9:00AM-3:30PM. October 31st Trunk or Treat Last year’s Trunk or Treat was a huge success. This year we will need decorated trunks, people to help with the food & drinks, floaters to help with games, and a set-up and take down crew. If you are willing to help, please sign the sign-up sheets on the bulletin board in the foyer. November 11th Church Open House This is the date we’ve chosen to celebrate our 70th anniversary of meeting at this location. If anyone has pictures from the past, we would like to make copies for a bulletin board. Any articles or information about the history of the F’burg church will be greatly appreciated.

MINISTER’S NOTES

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND In the movie, “Life Stinks,” Mel Brooks plays a wealthy businessman, Goddard Bolt. Bolt has the best of everything money can buy. He rides in a chauffeur-driven limousine. He’s wealthy and his sights are set on making more. His plan is to tear down some old downtown buildings and construct a modern complex with luxury condominiums and a mall. “What about the people living down there?” one of his employees asks him. “What people?” Bolt asks. “There are only deserted old buildings down there.” What he doesn’t take into account are the homeless people living in these “deserted old buildings” and in the alleys. A wager is made that Brook’s character cannot live among the street people for thirty days. He accepts this wager. While he is living on the streets, he learns firsthand what it’s like to be homeless. He also makes some friends among the homeless and discovers that they are not bad people—just people down on their luck. On a rainy night one of his new friends, Sailor, dies on the street and the next morning is found on the sidewalk. No one cares. No one even stops to see if he is dead or alive. At the end of thirty days Goddard Bolt is a changed man. No longer is he making money his only goal in life. Now he wants to build new homeless shelters where he once planned luxury condominiums. Like the rich man in Luke 16, Goddard Bolt was always too busy or too preoccupied to notice the poor and homeless persons living right outside his building. But, unlike the rich man of Luke 16, Bolt eventually realized his error and was able to change his ways and attitudes before it was too late. I hope you and I are that fortunate. For there is much of the rich man in us. We forget that what goes around comes around. God is a God of justice. Be careful who you ignore. The tables may someday be reversed.
