;. ■■' GeeeMl Gomitractors,
.Have- opened- temporary offices in tlie Fairmont Hotel, which can be reachedfrom the California-street side. This portion of the building was entirely un-touched by the fire, and we expect all ofour office force and field superintendentsto meet us there prompt^.
We have about 4000 tons of structura.l steel and a'large amount of cementand other building materials under contract, which is available for new build-ings, and we are prepared totake contracts for rapid erection of.earthquake andfireproof buildings only] ■; :̂ - '
•; L > . -The careful inspection of mostof the large steel frame buildings has proven
that no structural damage was caused by^the earthquake, and that wnere injuryhas resulted from fire it can be clearly"traced fto bad fireproof /construction.Wherever the steel has been properly protected by concrete there, has been nostructural injur}7 whatever.
A personal examination has fortified our unshaken confidence in thestability of the best t3Tpe of class "A"construction, and when, capitalists haveconfirmed this conclusion from reports of their own experts we expect that thebusiness district of Sau Francisco willbe rebuilt with all speed.
Ifit is correct that earthquake conditions can be provided for safely in thetall buildings, then our fire risks will be practically eliminated, since all busi-ness buildings will be of only one type, and no one will have any adjacentexposures '
There never was a time in the history of San Francisco when a properlyconstructed building offered such certain and profitable returns as itdoes today.
We have men and materials to undertake this type of work promptly andto complete itcorrectly.Hj Early contracts willsecure the advantage of available materials.
