I probably don’t have to convince you of this, but I like to watch weird TV shows. This isn’t a surprise coming from a guy who owns a Captain Kirk action figure. But I like things that are different and “stir up the pot” as they say. I am liking Duck Dynasty and seeing how a bunch of millionaire rednecks can be themselves and still live for God and show their faith to millions of viewers. I love old classics like The Greatest American Hero, which most of you probably have never heard of. It was a show in the 1980’s (so bad special effects, but awesome shows!) about a regular guy who was given a super-suit to help people in the world. When he wore it he was strong, could fly and do other nifty things he would figure out over time. The problem was, he lost the instruction book for it and the comedy of the show involved him figuring out how to bumble through things and still save the day. Recently I have enjoyed a show called Finding Bigfoot. Ever since I was a kid I have loved stories about Bigfoot and all the mysteries that surrounded the big hairy ape man that nobody can seem to prove whether he exists or not. But in the last few weeks I have started watching a few episodes of a show called River Monsters. It’s not as exciting as Bobo making Sasquatch calls (apparently he a degree or something in it!) and using his thermal-camera to pick up Bigfoot heat signatures in the woods, but this show takes the camera under the waters of some of the obscure rivers in the world and exposes some pretty scary looking fish down there.

They have caught and brought up some massive and freaky looking creatures from these everyday rivers that the people who live there fish in all the time. Some of them are so huge and terrifying they make Jaws look like a pet goldfish! No wonder they call them monsters. But the host did something very cool in a recent episode. Most of us know what Piranhas

are; those small, but hungry looking fish with razor sharp teeth that live in the Amazon. And most of us think them to be these crazed, blood-thirsty beasts who will attack anything that moves in the water. One rumor states that a school of them could skeletonize a cow in a couple of minutes. But the host of the show is a biologist who has studied these fish and he set out to prove that they actually will usually only eat meat that is already dead. The hype of these man eating fish comes from Hollywood and science-fiction and not fact. He proved it by not only jumping in and swimming in a river filled with them, but he also filled a small pool with Piranhas and sat in it with them for quite a while.

Its interesting how we can believe so many things are just are not the truth. Separating fact from fiction can be hard sometimes when we hear so many lies that are supposed to be real. False stories about people can spread around Facebook like the flu in a senior’s home! You may find this shocking, but you can’t believe everything you hear or read about in the news or the Internet!

The Bible says that God “wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4) It is so important for us, as followers of Christ, to be able to separate fact from fiction and be able to know God’s Word so well that the truth is always in us and everything we say to others to lead them to Jesus is the truth, spoken in love.

Even though it is apparently safe to jump in and swim with Piranhas, we don’t have to. But we are called to jump into people’s messy lives and bring them to a saving knowledge of the truth so that they too can be freed from the lies of sin.

Matt’s Chat

God …“wants all people to be saved and comet to a knowledge of the truth.”

(1 Timothy 2:4)

David is the current director of the mission on the

field. He is part of the Servant Leadership Team (SLT)

for the mission, and he is also director of the literature

department of NBCM. He is Eugene Morse's oldest

son. Raised in a Lisu village in Burma has made

speaking the Lisu language natural for him. He and his

staff of three Lisu tribal pastors, work to produce

teaching resources for 12 language groups throughout

Southeast Asia. As the computer man of the mission, David custom engineers

computer code for minority languages. He reconstructs computer hardware and

software to fit the needs of scripts never before entered into computer

keyboards. Norma has a ministry among women's groups in the Chiang Mai area, and

she also assists David with management and secretarial duties at the office.

A HUGE HIT – OVER $7,500 RAISED for CCCC

at the 2nd Annual Harold Nicholson Memorial CCCC Golf Tournament

Praise God for the wonderful time had at the 2nd Annual Harold Nicholson Memorial Golf Tournament! We had 74 golfers at Countryview Golf Course and a fantastic meal prepared by Mari Lynn Darrach and other volunteers at the camp. This was the first year for a cake and silent auction, which also went well. Over $7,500 was raised for Canoe Cove Christian Camp that will go to help keep the cost down for kids to go to camp. Thank you to everyone who came to golf, eat and volunteer!
