in shetland, a böd was a building used to house fishermen and their gear during the fishing season. Today, we’ve borrowed the word to describe basic accommodation for those who want a simple holiday in our islands.

The first Camping böds opened in 1992; all of them are all in attractive localities and each has an interesting history. They are an ideal way of seeing shetland on a budget; and, if you’re staying in a tent but would like a change for a few nights, they’re ideal. Facilities vary: some, in remote areas, have no electricity or lighting, though all have a solid fuel stove and the majority have electricity and showers. if you’ve brought gear for tented camping, for example a sleeping mat and bag, you’ll be fine.

All camping Böds are open from March – october. visit www.camping-bods.com for more information. To book email [email protected] or phone 01595 694688
