What are short courses? A short course is not a formal qualification. A short course focuses on teaching you a specific

skill set in a short period of time.  Short courses are ideal for those who require a

certain skill set to do their job more efficiently, those looking for a job promotion, job applicants who require a certain knowledge and skill set and those who simply just want to broaden their knowledge and skills to enrich their lives.

Should I be nervous about studying a short course?

There is no reason why you should be nervous about studying a short course.

Distance learning short courses are conducted in such a way that students are able to feel relaxed and comfortable while studying.

Good distance learning institutions, such as Skills Academy, will even provide you with access to academic support from a tutor via various communication channels.

How quickly can I finish my short course?

Short course assessments are assignment-based, and you have the freedom to progress through the material at your own pace.

There will often be fixed deadlines for submission, but if you complete your assignments early, you will be able to submit them and move on to the next module.

You won’t be held back by other students who work more slowly than you do.

What do I get when I finish my short course?

A short course will help you to learn new skills in a short period of time.

If you study through Skills Academy, you will also receive a short course certificate upon successful completion of your studies.

Can I study a short course if I live in Cape Town?

One of the advantages of distance learning is that you can enroll for short course training in any part of the country.

There are no night classes to attend and you do not have to travel alone at night either.

You can study most short courses from the comfort and safety of your own home, and at your own pace.

Why should I study a short course?

The value of a short course lies in the fact that you can gain a number of new skills in a relatively short period of time.

As this type of education is mostly done in your own time, you can choose to study one or two courses per year to update or enhance your skills.

By taking this seemingly slower approach to self-enrichment, you will allow yourself time for unforeseen distractions relating to work or family commitments.

Why should I study a short course?

Job seekers often enroll for short course top-ups in order to gain formal acknowledgement of skills that they already have. It shouldn’t be a case of “why should I study a short course?”, but rather a question of “what should I study next?” There will always be new things to learn and new skills to acquire.

Many short courses are aimed at saving you time and making you more efficient. They do this by teaching you practical skills that you can implement in the workplace in order to increase the quality and efficiency of your work.
