Reasons for separate state demandAre based on certain regional feelings. The leaders of agitation want to have their

own governments but do not want to be governed by the people from other regions.

States feel neglected, exploited, and backward & so feel that separation is the best solution.

The States Reorganization act of 1956The act reorganized the boundaries along

linguistic lines.Amended the Indian Constitution to replace the

three types of states known as- Part A- former governors' provinces of British

India. Part B- former princely states or groups of

princely states. Part C- both the former chief commissioners'

provinces and princely states.

Hyderabad StateHyderabad state was ruled, from 1724 until 1948,

by a hereditary Nizam.In 1947 during partition being a Muslim-governed

state, the Nizam wanted to join Pakistan but he was overruled by the viceroy Lord Mountbatten. The Indian Government carried out “Hyderabad Police Action” against the Nizam code-named “Operation Polo” by the Indian military.

In 1956 during the Reorganization of the Indian States the state of Hyderabad was split up between Andhra Pradesh, Bombay state and Karnataka.

Operation PoloThe Hyderabad Police Action code-named

Operation Polo was a military operation in September 1948 in which the Indian armed forces annexed the princely state of Hyderabad and ended the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad.

Movement was led by Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel. The operation was called "Operation Polo"

because at that time, Hyderabad state had some 17 polo grounds, the largest number in India.

Andhra StateAndhra State was created on October 1, 1953

from the Telugu-speaking northern districts of Madras Presidency.

On November 1, 1956, the States Reorganization Act merged the Telangana region of Hyderabad State to form the united Telugu-speaking state of Andhra Pradesh.

Separate Telangana state movementProponents of a separate Telangana state cite

perceived injustices in the distribution of water, budget allocations, and jobs.

Proponents feel that the agreements, plans, and assurances from the legislature and Lok Sabha over the last fifty years have not been honoured.

Telangana has remained neglected, exploited, and backward.

Merits of separate StateIndia can be developed faster because each

and every state government is responsible for the development of the state.

By having multi cultural society people can learn the tradition and culture of different states.

The benefits of the government polices can be implemented very easily.

Demerits of separate StatesEvery state will not have equal opportunity of

development, some state can become richer and some can become poorer.

State government and politician can play their dirty politics very easily on the name of language, on the name of God etc.

Politicians will just play around for votes and not true development.
