(SIA): SIA was founded in New York on September 29, 1990 by thirteen Latina women with the purpose of creating an organization that would help their communities, unite women, promote the Latino culture and uphold a set of distinct goals. Our dedication to scholarship, service and professional development within the Latino community has grown beyond New York, with chapters in several states including New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, and California. We are also a 501(c)7 tax-exempt organization and we work in conjunction with the Solidaridad Inspiración Amistad Community Foundation, Inc.- a 501(c)3 Community Foundation committed to scholarship, service and professional development within Latino communities nationally. Together, we administer a national scholarship fund for incoming college freshmen who demonstrate academic merit, service to communities in need and exemplary leadership capabilities. Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. (SIA) will be celebrating their 21st Founders’ Anniversary on September 30 - October 2, 2011 in Fort Myers, Florida. Hermanas from across the country will come together to honor the establishment of SIA with the annual General Body Meeting and Banquet. The chosen theme: Hermandad (spanish for Sisterhood); Then. Now. Always. was selected to commemorate the everlasting bonds of sisterhood that are created as members of SIA. Hermanas will engage in a variety of workshops to motivate, educate, and develop the undergraduate and professional members. Meetings will be presented on campus at the Alpha Sigma Chapter - Florida Gulf Coast University. The 21st Anniversary Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Ft. Myers Airport @ Town Center hotel. The general public and Greek community is invited to join in the celebration. Tickets will be available online for purchase starting July 1, 2011.
