Sierra Leone Church of the Nazarene

Ministries Coordinator

District Assembly

8 November 2015

Greetings and Welcome

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! For this our 10th assembly we are

gathered to celebrate the things God has done in the past church year, to draw upon His

grace, and to find inspiration for what He wants to accomplish through us in the year

ahead.

We are delighted to welcome today Rev. Daniel Johnson as our Assistant Field Strategy

Coordinator. God in His wisdom and providence has granted him as a leader to the Africa

West Field. He is a man of passion for his Christ, for the Church of the Nazarene, for the

message of holiness, for church planting and development, for education, for moving the

Church forward. Through God’s great grace, I know good days are ahead for the work of

the COTN on the field and as he is our leader for Sierra Leone!

DS Transition to National Leadership and Appreciation

As I stand today to give this report in the capacity of the DS for Sierra Leone, I want to

first of all say thanks to God for affording me this great opportunity to serve the church

and my people. After several years of planning, preparation and discussion with our

previous District Superintendent Rev. & Mrs. Paul Martin, our FSC Rev. Daniel Gomis,

Rev. Paul Martin and other AWF leaders, I finally received an official appointment letter

in December last year from Dr. Eugenio Duarte the General Superintendent for Africa

Jurisdiction, through the office of the Africa Regional Director Dr. Filimao Chambo

appointing me to serve as the district superintendent for Sierra Leone. It is therefore my

pleasure and delight to give my first report to the district as the first national district

superintendent for Sierra Leone District.

In this process and journey, I want to acknowledge the role of my spiritual parents and

mentor’s Rev. & Mrs. Paul Martin who served as the DS/Ministry Coordinator for the

church for about 9 years. I want to appreciate God for their lives, for their labor of love,

commitment and dedication to the work in Sierra Leone. Their exemplary leadership is

worth emulating by all of us. I believe God used them to prepare us for such a time as this

when we can have strong national leadership in place. No doubt, they have built a strong

foundation and by the grace of God we are going to continue to build upon it. I say kudos

to them for a job well done, can we all please rise and give them a rousing

applause!!!!!!!!

I also want to use this opportunity to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the

members of the District Advisory Board for their confidence in me and for voting

unanimously in my favor to serve as the District Superintendent. Their attention to

important aspects of the work of the Kingdom all through the year is much appreciated.

I also wish to commend all the zone leaders who are tirelessly pressing on to see the

church continues to expand, to spread Scriptural holiness throughout this land, on to all

its provinces. And to the pastors who are walking in God’s call to move this—His great

work forward.

The NTI teachers who have served with dedication are also to be commended especially

for all the classes that were taught even when Ebola was at its peak. This is a vital

ministry and I say thank you for your service; may the good Lord reward all your efforts.

Last but not least, I want to express from the depth of my heart, my love and gratitude to

the wonderful lady God has given me; Mrs. Marie Cole. She has been a tremendous

blessing to me, a wonderful help meet and she has assisted me with diverse assignments

as I focused on the work of the ministry. Thank you so much my Dear!

Where We Have Been (Some highlights)

During the church year in review, we also experienced the deadliest ever outbreak in the

history of our nation and the West African sub region; the Ebola Virus Disease. It lasted

for about 17 months and official records state that a total of 8704 people were infected

and close to 4000 died of which 221 were health personnel. This also led to the demise of

our beloved sister, Mrs. Isatu Fullah the wife of Pastor James Fullah in Ogoo Farm. Mrs.

Isatu Fullah transitioned from her earthly sojourn to her home in the “better country.” She

was a vibrant Christian, an exemplary woman of faith and prayer, a leader in Kingdom

interests. She was an outstanding member of the Amazing Grace COTN Ogoo Farm. Her

presence is greatly missed among us. May we take a moment of silence in respectful

memory of Sis. Isatu Fullah (Silence)

In this regard we also want to express our deep and sincere gratitude to the leadership of

AWF, Africa Region, NCM, and the entire Nazarene family worldwide for their love,

support and prayers. During the Ebola crisis, they made us feel and know that we were

not alone, prayers were sent up for us, support was provided for us, tap buckets,

disinfectant soap, hand sanitizers, sensitization programs, 21 and Free and of course bags

of rice and even the never to be forgotten 40 feet container load of Manna Pack food

supply. We will always be grateful for such an overwhelming show of love to us by the

church, it is a blessing indeed to belong to such a wonderful family.

Revival/Prayer & Fasting: This has been a major aspect in our local churches, every

church has developed their various times of prayer and seeking God and it’s turning out

to be very fruitful and rewarding. The lives of our people are being transformed and

many are beginning to discover God’s will and purpose for their lives. The churches are

on fire for the Lord and they’re making strong impact on their communities.

NTI Program: Nazarene Theological Institute continues to be a ministry in the Master’s

hands, moving forward the spreading of the glad message of holiness of heart and life.

Our teachers continued to brave it out all through the Ebola crisis even when other

learning institutions closed down; they continued to press forward with the classes

thereby putting in a total of 23 classes in all our NTI centers.

We are looking forward to our next graduation very soon as we have 3 of our students

that are almost at the finishing line now.

Radio Ministry: All through the crisis our pastors continued this wonderful ministry by

which they brought hope and salvation to many. We request your prayers that God will

provide the funds needed for its continuation and most of all that His Word and His

Presence will reach many lives through this glorious message.

JESUS Film: We continue to press on with the JESUS Film ministry. Even in the peak

of the Ebola crisis, our teams continued to venture out in the frontlines like brave soldiers

of the Lord even as they looked to Him for full protection and covering over their lives.

All of our 4 teams kept pushing and by God’s grace churches were planted every month.

There have been some wonderful stories of conversions this year and for these we give

God praise!

Churches/Fellowships (Where Are We?)

By the grace of God, we have been making good progress in terms of planting churches

and caring and nurturing them on to maturity. Our goal is not just to plant churches rather

we want to nurture every church plant until they develop into a fully matured church that

can be eventually organized.

At the end of last year (2013/2014), our church statistics was as follows:

Organized Churches - 7

Churches ready for official organization – 7

Active Preaching Points – 56

Non Active Churches & Preaching Points – 7

Location of churches – Freetown/Peninsular – 55; Segbwema - 15

Total # of active churches, preaching points/cell groups - 70

At the end of this church year (2014/2015), the church statistics is as follows:

Organized Churches - 7

Churches ready for official organization – 11

Active Preaching Points – 71

Non Active Churches & Preaching Points – 7

Where We Are Going (Vision)! Where there is no vision, the people perish (Proverbs

29:18). We want to keep our vision alive because we believe that our God is more than

able and His grace is sufficient for us. By His grace and strength we will seek to:

Nurture, develop and lead our churches to matured organized churches

Develop and mentor our young leaders

Experience holiness fire revival in every local church and community

Evangelistic outreach in our communities

Every church committed to discipleship and church planting
