memory of the past, letting the passengersfocus entirely on the magnificence of theMergui Islands, landscapes and sunsets.”

The solar catamaran will be skippered byCaptain Ajun May from Germany, anexperienced sailor in the archipelago, havingpreviously piloted Burma Boating’s SY Y Notyacht. “Guests can look forward to winingand dining in comfort, in between diving,snorkeling and swimming among the 800islands, coral reefs and atolls of one of theworld’s last untouched paradises,” he said.

Burma Boating caters to private tailor-made cruises on the S55 for up to sixpersons, starting at US$3,200 per day. It alsooffers a choice of 4-day or 6-day cabincharters leaving from the port of Kawthaung,southern Myanmar, each Saturday fromNovember through to May.

Burma Boating, a sailing firm owned byMyanmar tourism trailblazers, the

Memories Group, has unveiled the latestacquisition to its fleet – the S55, a 16.7-meter solar-powered yacht (picturedright) which will offer expeditions aroundthe Mergui Archipelago from January2019.

The S55 catamaran can accommodate upto six guests and three crew members, andis composed of three levels including aflybridge commanding 360-degree views, a40m² air-conditioned salon, and four cabins –including one 7m-wide suite – each withqueen-sized beds and private en-suitebathrooms.

Built in 2018, this ultra-modern catamaranbecomes the first 100% solar-run boat to sailin Asia, according to her designers, Silent-Yachts. The S55’s 30 mounted solar panelscreate 10kWp, which allows her to travel anunlimited distance on an average sunny day(though she also maintains a fuel-basedback-up engine). Two silent 30kW motorsdrive the S55 to a maximum speed of 12knots.

“The benefits of sailing with solar powercannot be overstated,” said Burma Boating’sGeneral Manager Eric Poepper. “The S55will leave a minimal environmental footprint,but offer travelers unprecedented sailingcomfort. She sails as silently over the wavesas any sailboat, but without depending onthe winds. When anchored, even the usualgenerator noises will vanish and become a
