Simrit Silicone Rubber,Electrical Self-Fusing Insulating Tape

− Sealing systems for termination and splicingwire and cable

- Insulating and sealing electrical connectors

- Harness wrapping and wire bundling forClass H insulation

- Repairing deteriorated insulation forreclaimed motors

- Final wrap material in splicing kits forunderground and overhead stress cones

- Buss bar insulation

Simrit’s silicone tape is the product of globally researched and proven technology from theFreudenberg and NOK Group Companies. High temperature and weather resistant, silicone rubbertape functions as a Class H material (180°C, 365°F). It is especially effective for high voltageinsulation systems where excellent dielectric strength, ozone resistance, high and low temperaturestability and moisture resistance is required. A special fluorosilicone version is available for applicationsrequiring chemical and fuel resistance.

- Masking tape for powder coating, dippingand metal encapsulating

- General purpose harness wrapping andwire and cable bundling for aircraftapplications

- Hot and cold air ducting for containinginsulation

- Rigging tape for marine applications

- Insulating tape for field armature andinterpole coils in large motors

Simrit Silicone Rubber Rectangularand Triangular Tape

Silicone Rubber Insulation:Simrit Rectangular and Triangular tape is a self-adhering extruded silicone rubber insulatingsystem. Silicone rubber is now the most eco-nomic way of building a sealed system with longoperating life due to the inertness of siliconerubber and its superior resistance to thermaldegradation, moisture and chemical attack andmechanical abuse. Despite the higher cost ofsilicone rubber as a material, many of the largemotor manufacturers have designed sealedsilicone rubber insulating systems to gaincompetitive advantages in the market.

Silicone Rubber ElectricalTape Uses:Insulating Motor and Generator Coils –The single largest use of silicone rubber electricaltape is for the insulation of motor and generatorcoils. Field coils, armature coils, and interpolecoils in large motors can be completely sealed ina moisture and chemical-proof jacket of siliconerubber. This makes it possible to use open ordrip-proof motors instead of totally enclosedequipment.

The least complicated, proven approach to asealed silicone rubber insulating system is throughthe use of fusible silicone rubber. Fusible siliconerubber is unique in that it is tacky to itself andadheres in overlapping layers. With time, it fusestogether and knits into a solid mass. The result isthat an overlapping winding is as solid as amolded tubing, void free and homogeneous.

Since self-adhering silicone rubber compoundswere first introduced, insulating tapes made fromthese compounds have been developed and arerapidly becoming a major form of electrical andthermal insulation today.

Coil Lead Insulation – Silicone rubberelectrical tape is used as a replacement forsilicone sleeving. In place of sleeving, unsup-ported tapes provide better dielectric strength, better sealing, better flex resistance and moreease in application.

Distribution Equipment – Insulation of bussbars with Simrit tape provides a heat resistant, abrasion and shock resistant system. Termina-tions and leads are other areas in distributionequipment where silicone tapes are beingeconomically utilized.

Wire Bundling and HarnessWrapping – Using silicone tape in this area ofinsulation provides an ideal field repair systemmeeting Class H insulation requirements andaffording easier application.

Wire and Cable Splicing – Self-adhering,silicone tape provides a sealing system forsplicing and terminating replacing messypotting compounds. Tape affords a moreconvenient method of sealing connections andbecause it is relatively thin, has goodconformability around irregular shapes andsurfaces.

Simrit Silicone Rubber Rectangularand Triangular Tape

The use of silicone rubber tape as an insulating materialis increasing and continues to grow. Simrit recognizesthe needs of the industry. We are in a position to offer abroad selection of silicone rubber tapes for yourconsideration and use.

What is it?Simrit Rectangular and Triangular tape makes possible aflexible, homogenous, coil insulation with the advantagesof a system that is easily applied, with essentially onewrap of tape forming a uniform insulation system. Aneven more important advantage is the protection anddurability under extreme as well as normal conditionsoffered by, and only by, silicones.

Moisture Resistance:When exposed to moisture conditions, conventionalsystems not only degrade quickly, they become hygro-scopic and absorb moisture from the air. Such acondition hastens failure. Silicone Rectangular andTriangular tapes can operate under water.

Abrasion Resistance:Hard, brittle, conventional taped and varnished systemswere unable to withstand abrasion for any length of timewithout damage. Silicone Rectangular and Triangulartape insulation retains their flexibility even after years ofaging. Abrasive particles actually bounce off the coilsurfaces. Open frame motors can now be exposed todust laden atmospheres without fear of insulation erosionand breakdown.

Chemical Resistance:Silicone Rectangular and Triangular tapes insulated coilsare resistant to most acids and alkalies, salt solutions andoils. This means that these coils are ideal for motors to beused in areas where there are chemicals, which havebeen harmful in the past to organic materials.

Aircraft Applications:A flame retardant version of Rectangular and Triangulartape secures insulation to hot air ducting, and meets therequirements of FAR 25.853.

Automotive Applications:Silicone Rectangular and Triangular tape can be easilyinstalled as a battery weather wrap to prevent corrosivebuildup on terminals.

Electrical Applications:Arc and corona resistance are among superior electricalproperties of silicone tape.

Nautical Applications:White silicone rigging tape is a marine tape used onsailboats to protect sails and lines against snags from sharpprojections. Unaffected by harsh environments and wear, the tape can be used for many other onboard applications.

Wrapping Instructions:

1. Tape and surfaces must be clean and dry.

2. Remove backing material.

3. Hold the tape firmly against the surface to be covered. Stretchthe tape 2 to 3 times its original length while wrapping.

4. Keep under tension, and overlap the edges while wrapping.

5. To finish, pull sharply on the tape to break, and press the end ofthe tape into place.

6. To remove the tape, simply cut with scissors or a knife.
