Simon Anderson grew up in the 60’s at Collaroy on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. He was lucky

enough to witness the evolution of the modern day surfboard in his own backyard, ridden by a

host of world class surfers including Nat and Chris Young, Butch and Steve Cooney, Rob Holt etc.

From the early 60’s 9’6 longboard to the ultra short 5’4” single n in ‘68, surng was going through

a dramatic design revolution; massive vee bottoms, trackers, tear drops, pins, double enders.

Every 6 months there was a new leap forward and an extra 6” cut off the length of the board.

Simon Simon Anderson gravitated to North Narrabeen in ‘69, to a culture of hardcore surng with a

strong link to board manufacturing at nearby Brookvale. He entered the industry as a ding xer

at Shane Surfboards in ‘70. His shaping career began at 17 after winning the ‘71 Australian Junior

Title at Bells Beach from Peter Townend and the hottest junior of that year Andrew McKinnon.

Drawing inspiration from legendary local surfer/ shapers Bob Kennerson, Terry Fitzgerald,

Geoff McCoy and Col Smith as well as the stella staff at Shane’s, Frank Latta, Ted Spencer and

Butch Cooney, Simon Anderson had the best possible apprenticeship. In 1973 Simon Anderson

ccompeted in the rst professional Australian contest at Bells Beach placing 3rd behind winner

MP and 2nd Anthony Hardwick (NN Surfer). ‘76 saw the beginning of the World Tour. Simon

Anderson had wins in ‘77 at Bells and the Coke 2SM Surfabout nishing the year ranked No 3. In

1981 he had 3 more victories the Bells/ Coke double again and the Pipe Masters on a new innovation

“the Thruster”, the modern day surfboard. Simon Anderson is still motivated to improve surfboard

design to benet his own surng, team riders and surfers in general, including Kelly Slater in 2005

who won at J - Bay and Trestles riding one of Simon’s shapes. Simon Anderson uses his many years

of of experience in shaping, surng and working with team riders to create the best possible boards

for all wave conditions.

2010 NEW MODELS

Page 5: Simon Surfboards 2010

This is a small wave Mollusc style board with the

major difference being the wide rounded square

tail. The idea of this board is to get quad style

speed and looseness but in a thruster. The bottom

has deep single to double concave and vee through

the back half of the board like the Mollusc Robo, but

the the concave through the vee area remains deep,

similar to the DK quad. Simon surfed 6’2 21 ¼ 2 ¾ KB

with FCS Simon large ns. The extent of the rounded

square tail width can freak you out but in 1-3 foot

Sydney style beachies it gives you terric carry and

down the line speed which in small waves sets you

up to do satisfying turns at speed in little surf. Good

slide slide control off the top on your forehand and easy

rail to rail transition because of the double concave

vee through the back half of the board. Mollusc style

easy wave catching and take off, surf the KB at least 4”

shorter and 1 ¼” wider with the same thickness to

1/8” thicker than normal

A blend of retro and modern design elements. The 80’s

inuence includes wide point moved forward slightly,

increased nose area in the plan shape, slightly more

volume in the rail and slightly lower than the normal

SA rail. Modern design elements include moderate

single to double concave, moderate tail rocker with

llower overall nose rocker and good amount of nose

entry through the forward nose area to the tip.

Thickness distribution is slightly forward with a little

extra under the chest. So far Simon surfed 6’6 x 20 x

2 11/16 rounded square 810 board in 3 – 5 feet good

Narrabeen. Can be a swallow tail or round tail as a

step up board. The 810 is denitely an all rounder,

the incthe increased nose area gives you drawn out turns,

good paddling, efficient wave catching and is a little

easier to jump to your feet. The single to double gives

you good speed and the moderate tail rocker allows

nice tight turns in the pocket off the back foot. For

average to good surfers of all ages keep it short

with a little extra width, a

¼ - ½¼ - ½ “ than your regular

short board and can be a

1/16th thinner for max

performance.

A small wave swallow tail board featuring more nose

area in the plan shape than your normal thruster and

wide point a little forward with low nose entry but

moderate tail rocker, deep single to double concave

with vee at the swallow and similar rail to 810 (more

volume slightly lower). The RPR is set up as a thruster

ffor 2 – 4 feet beachies but we recommend larger side

ns and small trailer n at the back for small waves.

Simon surfed 6’4 x 20 ½ x 2 ¾ x 7 ¼” wide swallow

tail with Futures n system and 5 ½” Vector tech foils

side ns and 3 ½” back n. Really good blend of

speed and freedom with a little controlled slide off

the top with every turn making you look dynamic

without without too much effort. Twinny lovers will enjoy this

board with the air they are used to but a good

measure of control. Surf the RPR 2 – 4” shorter 1”

wider and the same thickness to a 1/16” thicker than

your normal all round thruster.

The fastest board in the Simon

range. A high performance all

rounder that’s adaptable to

all surfers and all conditions.

Featuring low soft rails and a single to double

concave for deep carving turns. Ride it with any

ccombination of tails. The 2010 XFC model retains

the TSR Rocker, a little atter in the belly section

compared to the previous rocker, with the same

overall tail and nose lift. The XFC remains our

agship all round small wave performance board.

Description: Developed in

association with Jay ‘Bottle’

Thompson. The BX2 is a slight

variation on the XFC rocker.

A little atter with a dramatic tail ip. The deck

is a little more veed with a slight boxy feel to

the the rail. Thickness distribution is pulled back a

little, thinner nose and thicker through the

back half of the board again to assist with

release when you want it at the end of the turn

arc. A high performance board with great

speed, with the ability to break the ns out

when needed.

The SXE2 is Simon’s most

popular model amongst

WCT and WQS surfers.

A performance board

designed to get the most out of a wave.

The curvier rocker through the middle combined

with deep single with deep single concave makes this board

extremely fast and manoeuvrable. Although

similar to the XFC, the SXE2 surfs that little bit

tighter and vertical. Ride it with a round-pin

tail for quality waves.

The DSC (Deep to Shallow Concave)

produces immense speed and

maintains hold through turns.

A slight single to double concave with a smooth

rocker, low soft rails and rounded pin tail to

handle the extra power and speed. The DSC is

yyour step up board for 5-8ft surf. For the

“DOUBLE STEP UP” board there is vee from

half way through to the tail. The bottom formula

is slight single concave up front going to

double concave through to the vee apex, which

is around the forward nose area. The vee then

fades out to at at the rounded pin tail. The

longer the longer the board or larger the surf the less

concave and more vee applied through the

DSC range.

The interceptor is one of

Simon’s most popular boards

due to its small wave

performance. Extra width and a

deep single concave helps this board to carry

over dead sections, whilst still tting securely

in the in the pocket. Best if ridden 1-2 shorter and

¼ to ½” wider than your normal board.

The IP is basically an Interceptor

but with a swallow tail and

deeper single concave with a

little vee out the tail. You surf

this board 2” shorter than your regular

performance thruster and ¼ - ½” wider with

the same the same to a 1/16” thicker. The swallow gives

the board a little more bite and hold on the

face. This model will surf in slightly bigger

surf than you would expect the interceptor to.

In other words 1- 6’ beach breaks, a good

option for the Sydney area, Sunshine Coast

or Perth etc.

The 2010 EQ is a predictable

and user-friendly performance

thruster suitable for all types of

surfers and conditions. A rened

blend of performance and versatility. Best if

ridden 1/4”-1/2” wider, 1/16” thicker and 1”

shoshorter than your normal all round

performance board.

A bigger Version of the XFC.

Performance with volume.

Thicker, wider, longer but

with modern rails, rocker and

a Single to Double concave . Great all rounder

for beach and reef breaks, perfect for older

and bigger guand bigger guys.

The 3rd generation

“Performance Fish“, with a

more streamlined plan shape,

deeper swallow tail and a deep single to

double concave into a slight Vee. This board is

suitable for all surfers looking to maximise

their their performance on those smaller summer

days. Best ridden 3” shorter, 1” wider and 1/8

thicker than your normal all round short board.

Page 12: Simon Surfboards 2010
Page 13: Simon Surfboards 2010

A wider, shier version of the DKP. A little

extra volume and surface area, perfect for

catching the summer slop and getting up

and going. The quad n allows for speed

and looseness in small slushy waves. Best

in 1- 3 foot waves. This board is a great

paddler and paddler and forgiving to surf. An excellent

option if you are looking at trying a quad

or want something different in your quiver

for those smaller days.

Born from the unsurpassed success of the mollusc

series of surfboards. Simon decided to design a

quad board with all the performance aspects of

the mollusc, but with the versatility of a quad n.

Basically it’s an S4 with boxy rails and pumped up

volume in the tail. A great “free riding” small wave

bboard. The SDK has a lot more foam in it than the

regular DK, making it the perfect board for those

less than perfect days. It’s the ideal board if you

want to come down in length without sacricing

small wave performance. Best if you ride it 4-6”

shorter and 1-1/1/2” wider and a pinch thicker

than your normal board.

New generation Quad. The DKP is Simons

performance quad n, responsive and owing.

This board allows you to connect your turns

without losing momentum. A new n cluster

gives the DKP a predictable feel. Great for

mixing your quiver up. Ideal for waves from

2 – 6 2 – 6 feet.

Page 14: Simon Surfboards 2010
Page 15: Simon Surfboards 2010

A hybrid with all the performance aspects of a short

board. A fuller nose combined with a single to

double concave, produces a board that catches

waves easily, but still performs with speed and

responsiveness. The Mollusc can be ridden with a

swallow or a round tail. Simon recommends a round

tail tail for connecting deep carving turns on the face,

in good waves. For the larger size boards 6’5 and

above or wider than 20 1/4” there is an added vee

through the bottom half on the bottom of the board.

This added vee assists with rail to rail transitions.

The Mollusc is ideal for small waves up to 5ft.

We are doing a lot of work on these boards. For the

moment this is a Mollusc on steroids. Wider plan

shape, nose and tail. With a Single to Vee/Concave.

A Swallow Tail with a attish nose entry and a little

more volume in the rail. We are also working on

Summer Mollusc Robo’s with a few bottom concave

vvariations.

The Mollusc Robo is an extended version of the

Mollusc for boards 6’5 and above. Easy to paddle

and still carves like a shorter board. The Mollusc

Robo is perfect for the bigger surfer who still

demands performance from their equipment. It

is also suitable for the intermediate surfer

llooking for an easy turning board with good

paddling power to assist with the take off
