Reasons for Hybrids
• EME and other applications require higher microwave power
• High power MW amps are TWTs or other high voltage devices
not happy to sit out at the antenna feed point
Reasons for Hybrids
• With high-power MW amps in the shack, line losses are significant
• A 200 W amp in the shack with a 3 db line loss is only 100 W at the feed
Reasons for Hybrids
• High power MW solid state amps operate at 28 volts and can be placed at the feed point
• Line losses are eliminated• High power MW amps can be
combined with hybrids to outpower TWT’s

N6CA 23cm ring-hybrid
using tubing for the ring
-
Tubular ring element is a problem for other bands
N6CA design ring-hybrid using flat
stock for ring-
Easy to adapt to any band
Critical Dimensions
• Radius A
• Radius B
• Radius C
• Spacing
• 1.5 Divided by 2 (0.2387 free space )
• Radius A minus .125”
• Radius A plus .125”
• 0.100” for all bands
Critical Dimensions
• Connector electrical spacing 90, 90, 90, 270 degrees
• Linear Spacing A, A, A ,2A
Precautions
• Microwaves at high power levels deserve biological care!
• You wouldn’t stick your head in a microwave oven, don’t get near high power feeds!
