Hot weather! Now the warmer weather is here, please make sure your child has a hat and a water bottle in school every day and has sun cream applied before they come in; also give any hayfever medication. We are not permitted to apply sun cream and can only give medication if the appropriate form is signed beforehand.

PE KitPlease also make sure their PE kit is in school EVERY day as they will be starting to practise for Sports Day whenever there is spare time.

Ice Lollies! Thanks to the sale of ice lollies we have raised enough money to buy our new outdoor display board. We will be continuing to sell ice lollies every Friday lunchtime for 50p each; this time our fundraising target is to raise money for new outdoor play equipment.

ParkingPlease make sure that you park safely when dropping off or picking up your child. Our Road Crossing Patrol Officers, Mrs Sharp and Ms Guy, need a clear view up and down the road to be able to cross your children safely so please try not to park near the yellow zig-zag lines. Also, we would be grateful if you could avoid parking too close to the local residents’ gates, anywhere near the school car park gates or in the car park itself. Thank you.

Old £5 notes and other money matters! Please note that these are no longer legal tender and we can no longer accept them. We no longer have petty cash in school; this means that we are unlikely to have any change, so please send in any cash payments for the school in named envelopes with the correct money. Dinner money is dealt with by the Caterlink cash collector, not the school office, so we cannot give change at all - please keep dinner money payments separate from anything else, also in a named envelope which we will then hand to the cash collector unopened.

Online School Uniform OrderingGo online to http://www.mapac.com/education/parents/uniform/ulcombeprimaryschoolme171du. Follow the instructions and your uniform will be delivered direct to your address. If you order over £40.00

Chequer Tree CampHave fun this Summer at Chequer Tree Camp, an exciting week long residential camp for children currently in Years 4-7, run by The Family Trust. Held in Bodiam, East Sussex, the camp offers an exciting programme of team games, arts & craft, performing arts, swimming, a brilliant day trip, fun Christian teaching and much, much more - all this, including meals and accommodation, for just £160 per child! Running for the first two weeks of the summer holidays, Chequer Tree Camp offers a great chance for children to make friends, try new things and explore the Christian faith with a fantastic team of leaders. 2017 is Chequer Tree Camp’s 30th year.

AttendanceAs you are aware, good attendance is crucial to your child making progress in school.

There have been several court cases in the press recently relating to attendance and, in particular, the issuing of penalty notices. KCC have revised their policy following these cases.

Our policy remains the same in that every session of absence needs to be accounted for. You must contact school. School will decide whether the absence is authorised.

We expect pupils to attend school every day when the school is open and where there are more than 10 sessions or 5 days unauthorised absences in a 50 day period a penalty notice will be issued.

Please come in and chat to Mrs Hargrave or Toni, our FLO, if you need support in ensuring your child attends every day.

FUS NewsOur fundraising enables us to provide new equipment for the school, such as the adventure trail, benefiting all the children.

Summer Fayre – Friday 7 JulyThe Summer Fayre will be held immediately after Sports Day. There will be a BBQ and many stalls so please come along and help FUS support the school. More details to follow.

If you have any donations for raffle prizes, please bring them to the School Office or give them to a member of FUS on the playground before or after school.

Polite RemindersPlease remember that if your child is in Barn Owls, Little Owls or Owlets they must be collected from the school playground by a responsible adult (over 18) and once released into your care at the end of the day they are your responsibility to keep safe and supervise even when still on the school site. If you wish your child to walk home unaccompanied, regardless of their class, the school must have a signed letter to that effect and it must be agreed with Miss Hickling.

Please do not allow your children to play on the adventure apparatus or enter the pond area after school as KCC Insurance Services have advised that this is not permitted unless a member of staff is in attendance.

The school gate will be unlocked from 8:40am until 9:00am and from 3:00pm to 3:30pm. If you need to access the school outside these times, please go to the main door and ring the buzzer.

Just before Jesus was taken up to heaven he told them that they would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes to them and they'd be his witnesses in the whole world (Acts 1:8). Even more, he told them much earlier that the Holy Spirit would be sent by the Father, that He would teach them all things and remind them of everything He said to them (John14:26).

The day of Pentecost was a bit different though. People had already become Christians but the Holy Spirit wasn't a part of them yet. This

would be the first time everyone who was a Christian would receive the Holy Spirit. Pentecost was a day to celebrate the end of the grain harvest. It was like Harvest Festival is for us in Britain when the farmers have collected their crops and all the hard work is done.

The people would offer two loaves of bread they had made from their crops and two lambs were offered to the Lord. This was their special way of thanking God for the weather and for helping them get a crop for that year. The disciples and other Christians had come together to thank God and suddenly a sound like the blowing of a strong wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

It wasn’t a surprise that the crowd that had gathered to check out what was happening thought that there wasn't anything special happening; after all they weren't there when the Holy Spirit came to them. When Peter started to hear these rumours he raised his voice and talked to the crowd. He explained that Joel, a messenger of God's word said that this very thing would happen a long time ago. God usually would tell a prophet when something important was going to happen way before it actually happened. Just like the Bible told us a Saviour (Jesus) was going to come and save us long before Jesus was even born. Peter continued and explained how God brought Jesus to them and that they had crucified him. The crowd understood and felt responsible for doing this and they wanted to know what they could do now.

Peter explained that they should repent (say they're sorry and stop doing bad things) and be baptized so that others would know that they believed in God and were trying to change. Now, because of Jesus’ death and His resurrection people could be forgiven and receive the Holy Spirit from now on. That means we receive the Holy Spirit when we accept Christ or become Christians. The word Christian actually means Christ in us. The special thing about having the Holy Spirit is that God never leaves us so we can talk to Him or ask for help anytime.
