From: Erika Rogness, SMP Assistant, MCCS, CamPen
To: SgtMaj Campbell, SgtMaj MCAS CamPen
Subj: MCAS CamPEN/MAG-39 SMP Executive Council Monthly Meeting Minutes
1. A SMP meeting was held on 12 December 2018 at MCAS Camp Pendleton’s Hall of Heroes. List
of those in attendance is provided on the sign in sheet (attachment 1).
2. SgtMaj MCAS CamPen –
Please be sure to sign-in on the attendance roster for inspection purposes
Sergeant Major Campbell – There is now new food options and coffee located over
near Ramones in the Air Station. This was done after results from surveys with
Marines. SgtMaj Campbell asked Marines what we have gotten done correctly and what
we need to work on. Conclusion: we are reaching target audience everything and is
going well. SgtMaj Campbell told everyone we are about to begin a new year, so go
back and talk to your marines and sailors about what they would like to see and
what things didn’t work, get feedback.
Sergeant Major Butts – Explained that all Marines need to help keep the barracks
clean and well working in your area. Make sure to report any necessary concerns to
proper individuals. Sergeant Majors and Senior enlisted, with the holidays upon us,
please make sure to tell the marines and sailors about available events for Marines
and Sailors to participate in while staying safe and engaging them while outside of
their barracks during leave block.
SSgt Moran – Barracks managers and unit managers: parking is an issue, please be
aware of where you are parking and leaving vehicles during deployments and long
absences. A Marine was deployed and his vehicle was left in a regular lot for
months. PMO is required to contact the individual before towing and they weren’t
able to make contact, which caused many issues. Also, room inspections – Senior
Marines inspect Junior Marines. 81, 82, 83, 84 Sergeants inspect barracks, but this
leaves the question of who inspects Sergeants barracks? Throughout the week 25% of
the rooms are required to be inspected. Sergeant Majors: have the shops inspect the
Sergeants rooms so that this is being completed. For example, a Sergeant was
parking his motorcycle in his barracks. This is not allowed, but had been overseen
due to lack of Sergeant Barracks Inspections.
