6.4 Configuration

6.4.1 Introduction The "Configuration" tab is divided into the two sections "Plant" and "Device":

● In "Plant", you configure your plant comprising plant parts and devices.

● Under "Device", you parameterize your configured devices.

The relevant section appears when you click on the corresponding field in the vertical menu bar. The vertical menu bar can be hidden and shown again using the green arrow.

6.4.2 Plant In the "Plant" section, different plant objects can be added.

SINVERT device catalog In the left area of the page, you can find all the available SINVERT devices in the SINVERT device catalog, sorted according to inverters and other devices. The inverters are subdivided once again according to their IEC and UL versions. For a clearer, structured configuration, the "Plant part" object is also available. Any number of devices can be added to each plant.

New plant* / <Filename.ssp> The table on the right of the page shows the configuration of the plant, that is, the devices and plant parts making up the plant. The list has the columns PVS object, description, IP address and verify status. If you move the mouse pointer over a PVS object, a tooltip appears in which you can see the name, IP address, and synchronized firmware version of the PVS object. If the device has not yet been synchronized, the firmware version is not shown in the tooltip.

The filename is displayed in the bar above the list. The width of the columns can be modified with the help of the mouse, as can the position of the dividing line between the device catalog and the plant configuration.

If a new plant is configured, the filename "New plant*" appears first above the table; the "*" means data has been modified but not yet saved.

A new (empty) plant initially has only the node "New plant". This node cannot be deleted.

Plant parts can be dropped down or closed up to improve the overview. To do so, click on the "+" or "-" character at the plant part in the table. The entire tree can be fully dropped down or closed up using the "+" and "-" buttons above the table.

6.4.2.1 Inserting objects in the plant

Clear plant structure In the "Plant" section, different plant objects can be added. You can structure the plant clearly by inserting plant parts. Plant parts can be arranged underneath one another in several levels. A plant part can thus contain devices and/or plant parts. Another sub-level can be created under a device. The object "Plant part" is only used for clearer structuring of a plant configuration and has no other function.

Insert an object (manually)

Note

When inserting individual objects using "Insert an object" and dragging and dropping, the software always adopts the latest available firmware version of the inverters.

To select the firmware version of your inverter, insert the inverters into your plant configuration using the command "Insert an object more than once (with version selection)...".

There are different methods of inserting an object into the plant from the SINVERT device catalog:

1. In the table of the plant configuration, you select the node under which an object is to be inserted by clicking on it. Then you double-click on the desired object in the SINVERT device catalog to insert it into the plant configuration.

2. The desired object is dragged and dropped from the device catalog to the node in the plant configuration under which it is to be inserted.

Note

Only if a small "+" sign appears at the mouse pointer is it possible to place the device in the table on the right side.

3. Right-clicking on an object in the device catalog opens a shortcut menu that allows the object to be inserted once or more than once (with or without version selection) at the current position in the plant configuration.

4. You can insert cut or copied objects into the plant configuration via the shortcut menu.

For more information, refer to Chapter "Edit plant (Page 33)".

5. You can automatically search for and insert the accessible plant components in your network using the "Find devices..." button. For more information, refer to Chapter "Find devices... (Page 38)".

Page 32: SINVERT - Siemens€¦ · Microsoft .NET-Framework V3.5 SP1 For the installation and operation of SINVERT ConfigTool, "Microsoft .NET-Framework V3.5 SP1" must be installed on all

Insert an object (with version selection)... Objects can also be inserted more than once. The firmware version of the inverter can also be selected. The dialog window opens after selection of the command "Insert an object more than once...":

Enter here the number of objects of the selected type to be inserted. You can also specify whether objects to be inserted are all to receive the same name, or whether the name is to be numbered consecutively.

In the "Name" field, you assign the desired name of the object.

If you number the name, you can enter the number you want to start with in the "Start number" field.

The command "Insert an object (with version selection)..." is grayed-out if only one firmware version exists for a device.

Note Check firmware version

To check the firmware version of inserted inverters, right-click on the inverter and select "Properties" from the dropdown menu.

Result When you have inserted one or more objects into the plant, these lines appear highlighted in orange. This means these changes have not yet been saved. As soon as you have saved the changes, the orange highlighting of the line(s) disappears.

In the example above, 6 devices are inserted with consecutive numbering. After saving the plant, the result appears as follows:

6.4.2.2 Edit plant

Shortcut menu of the objects In the "Configuration" on the right side, the following shortcut menu can be called by right-clicking with the mouse. The objects can thus be cut, copied, and deleted. If an object has been previously copied or cut, it can be inserted again. It is inserted at the selected position.

You also have access here to the properties of configured devices.

Page 34: SINVERT - Siemens€¦ · Microsoft .NET-Framework V3.5 SP1 For the installation and operation of SINVERT ConfigTool, "Microsoft .NET-Framework V3.5 SP1" must be installed on all

Cut

The selected object is copied to a buffer in the program and then deleted from the plant configuration. The object is then inserted into the plant again at another position. All parameter settings and configurations are retained.

Copy

The selected object is copied to a buffer in the program. The copy of the device can then be pasted into the plant again at another position. All parameter settings and configurations are retained, with the exception of the IP address. This is then empty in the new device.

Paste

Pasting is only possible if the copy of an object is located in the program-internal buffer. The device from the buffer is pasted into the selected node. The parameter settings and configurations of the copied object are retained.

Note

The content of the internal buffer is retained until another device is cut or copied, or until the application is terminated. It is therefore possible to paste the device located in the buffer several times at different positions in the plant. It is also possible to copy a device from a plant, then to open another plant file and paste the device there.

Delete

The selected object, including lower-level objects, is deleted from the plant configuration after a confirmation prompt.

The selected object can also be deleted with the <Del> key.

Note Editing plant parts

A plant part can also be cut, copied, pasted, or deleted along with all its lower-level objects.

Online verification (single device)... You can verify and synchronize individual devices online. For more information on online verification, refer to Chapter "Verify devices... (Page 36)".

Moving objects An object or plant part can be dragged and dropped with all lower-level objects to another position in the plant. To do so, click on the object and, holding the mouse key down, drag the object to the desired position, and then release the mouse key. If the moved object is a plant part, all lower-level objects will also be moved.

Note

Multiple selection of objects is not possible.

Properties… You can obtain further information about the configured objects via the shortcut menu:

6.4.2.3 Edit object

Modifying the PVS object and description Any text can be entered for the names and description of the inserted objects. However, the object name must not be empty. If you left-click on the text within a column, the text can be edited after a brief delay by clicking again. Names for the folder structure or device names can be edited in this way. The name can consist of up to 40 characters, and the description can have up to 100 characters.

The name and description are saved by pressing "Return".

IP address Each device requires a valid and unique IP address; IPv6 is not supported. The format is checked (4-digit).

The IP address is entered as described above. The IP address is then saved by pressing "Return".

If an online synchronization cannot be carried out (for example, if there is a communication fault due to an incorrectly set IP address), the following window appears:

The failed operation is highlighted by the symbol shown below in the column "Verify status".

Verify status Within the table representation of the plant description, the following symbols are used in the "Verify status" column to indicate the different statuses of the displayed objects:

Symbol Meaning

The configured device matches the actual device in the plant.

Wrong device configured

No connection to device (wrong IP address) or device is not responding

Error when executing the synchronization

Status unknown, synchronization not yet executed

If you move the mouse pointer over the symbol, a tooltip offering further information on the verify status appears. If, for example, the configured firmware does not agree with the determined firmware, the configured and determined firmware are displayed.

6.4.3 Device In the "Device" section, you receive information about the device parameters, and you can parameterize devices, import and export parameterized devices, and synchronize parameters with the inverter.

Plant configuration The "Device" section of the "Configuration" tab page displays the plant configuration as a tree structure on the left. The plant configuration can be modified in the "Plant" section.

Parameters of the devices In the table in the section on the right, the parameters of the device selected in the plant configuration are displayed. If a parameter has several elements (e.g. for different system units), this parameter is represented as a node with several sub-elements. For improved clarity, the nodes can be dropped down or closed up by clicking on the "+" or "-" character or by double-clicking on the node. The entire tree can be fully dropped down or closed up using the "+" and "-" buttons above the table. In addition, you can hide all parameters that cannot be modified.

6.4.3.1 Assigning the parameters The parameters can be adjusted for each device. If you left-click on the parameter within a column, the value can be edited and modified after a brief delay by clicking again.

Depending on the data type and value range of a parameter, different options for modifying or selecting the parameter value are offered. In the case of Boolean parameters, this is a checkbox. In the case of numerical parameters with a coherent value range, it is an editing field. In the case of discrete values as permissible input, it is a checkbox, and in the case of time and date parameters, it is an input box specially suited to the purpose.

Displaying the parameters of a device If the value of a parameter has been modified but not yet saved in the plant file, the line of the parameter is displayed against an orange background.

Symbol Meaning

The value of the parameter is current. It was not modified when last read from the device or written to the device. If you move the mouse pointer over the symbol, a tooltip appears showing the date and time of the last update.

The value of the parameter has been modified and since then has not been written to the device and has not been saved in the plant file.

The status of the parameter is unknown. It has not yet been written to the device or read from the device.

The parameter can be read and written. Its value can therefore be modified.

The parameter is read-only. Its value cannot be modified.

Note Access levels

There is a fixed access level for each of the parameters. If the access level is not sufficient for modifying a parameter, this is indicated by an appropriate warning message. You have the option of increasing the access level when entering the password.

Save changes When you have finished filling out the configuration, you save the newly created plant as described in Chapter "Save plant (Page 28)".

If you terminate SINVERT ConfigTool without saving, you will be asked whether you want to save the changes. The same applies if you create a new plant while an unsaved plant is open.

6.4.3.2 Actions In the "Device" section, there are different buttons with which you can start actions.

Read from device If you click on this button, the current data is read from the device.

The following message then appears:

Write to device You can also transfer values to the device. After clicking on the "Write to device..." button, a dialog box opens in which you can enter the parameters to be written to the device:

● "All writable": This causes all writable parameters to be overwritten even if they have not been modified.

● "All with 'Status: changed'": This causes all changed parameters to be written to the device.

● "All that do not have 'Status: up-to-date'": This causes all parameters whose status is not up-to-date to be written to the device.

Note Aborting the write operation

If it is not possible to write a parameter to the inverter, an error message appears, the operation is aborted, and no parameters are transferred to the device. This is the case, for example, if the inverter is in a status in which certain parameters cannot be changed.

Note Divergent firmware version

If the firmware version of an inverter differs from the configuration in the SINVERT ConfigTool, you receive a warning, but you can still write the parameter to the inverter.

Page 44: SINVERT - Siemens€¦ · Microsoft .NET-Framework V3.5 SP1 For the installation and operation of SINVERT ConfigTool, "Microsoft .NET-Framework V3.5 SP1" must be installed on all

Access level

To be able to write values to the device, the password of the appropriate access level must have been previously entered. The individual parameters have different access levels and can only be changed with the relevant password.

If the box "Valid for all devices of the plant" is checked, this password is always used for accessing a device. This box is only checked if individual parameters are written and you are prompted for a password.

If you have entered an incorrect password, you are prompted again for the password for this device.

After writing the device parameters, a window opens in which the results are displayed in the form of a table.

The current access level applicable for the entire plant is displayed on the left of the footer.

The access level can be set here using a password. This password is then used when communicating with the devices.

SINVERT ConfigTool Operating Manual, 11/2011 61

Set to 150% to zoom the document. The preview is automatically updated but not scaled. It might therefore be the case that only one section is visible when zoomed.

Set up page

A dialog box opens which you can use to manually set the size and source of the paper and the page margins.

The specifications "Left", "Right", "Top" and "Bottom" always refer to the actual page margin and not to the reduced printable page area.

Note Printable page area

There is a non-printable page area for printers. If the value selected is too low, warning information appears after closing the dialog box, and the value still permissible for the printer is automatically calculated and set. This value is displayed the next time the "Page setup" dialog box is started.

After terminating the dialog box with "OK", the preview is automatically updated.

If the selected page margins are too large, for example, Top = 150 and Bottom = 100, the following warning appears:

In this case, printing does not take place.

Font selection The font dialog box refers only to the text outside the header and footer areas. This allows achievement of optimal display in the selection of font size and type.

The sample text is displayed as an example below the selection menu.

After termination of the dialog box, the settings are immediately displayed in the preview.

Printer selection Since the preview is dependent on the selected printer, the printer must be selected already at this stage. The printer selection is necessary at this point since there are non-printable page margins for each printer type. These are different depending on the printer type. When the printer is changed, the preview is correctly displayed immediately, taking account of the non-printable area.

Print A selection dialog box of available printers, from which the previously selected printer was chosen, appears first. The document is printed when you confirm with "OK".

Note

If a different printer to the one in the printer selection in the preview is selected at this point, the resulting printout can change.

Preview Use this button to update the preview.
