What is Service Information System (SIS)

• For those not connected to the internet, SIS

data is available either from a library of SIS

DVDs or when loaded to a Network SIS

Server (on a LAN). Data on DVDs is

updated monthly.• All three versions of SIS require an Internet

Browser to display SIS information.

• Parts lists can be created in SIS and parts

ordered directly via a connection to

PartStore.

• Service literature is organized into a repair logic scenario of educating, problem solving

and repair and can be found under the

heading Service Repair Information in via

Document Structure.

• SIS covers information for all Caterpillar

products from 1977 on.

• The information in SIS is equivalent to over

25,000 books. With over 2 million graphics

and more than 1.5 million part numbers, SIScontains 44,000 parts and service

documents.

• SIS is available on Local Area Networks

(LAN) with Network SIS, the Internet (SIS

Web), or with a DVD subscription.

• Data on SIS Web (internet version) isupdated nightly, providing users with the

most current data. Connection to the internet

is required for this access.

SIS is the electronic service tool that Caterpillar dealers, customers and employees

rely on for their parts and service information needs.

How to StartUsing a Product Identification

Searches are divided into those requiring a Product Identification (product ID –prefix and serial number, sometimes referred to as serial number prefix – SNP) and

those not requiring a Product ID.

• Product ID-required searches produce results that are more specific to a product.

• Prefix only-search results apply to the entire model with that prefix.

• No-Product ID searches permitted

Model prefixes can be found using the Select Equipment Model link on Main Menu. Some documents require users be given permission to access them. Those are

marked with an **.
