big summerSummer in Switzerland is a unique combination of summer school and summer camp. We take great pride in our ability to balance academic enrichment courses with outdoor adventure in one of the most spectacular places on earth, the Swiss Alps. Students arrive in our small mountain community from over 40 different countries and range in age from 7 to 18 years-old. We bring in experienced teachers and recreation staff from all over the world to create classes and lead fun, exciting activities and cultural travel. It is easy to see why staff and students value their SIS experience so much. At departure time I can see the effect SIS has on people from the tears shed by faculty and students alike.

parentsArrival & DepartureSIS staff will meet your child on arrival day at Geneva airport and bring them to campus. On departure day, they will also accompany your child to the airport.

Experienced, talented staffOur international staff members possess a wide range of skills and experience in working with children and adolescents. Over half of the staff return each year, creating an atmosphere that is welcoming and comfortable.

Courses are built around 5 streams:

Faculty familiesStudents at SIS are grouped in families created by age level, with boys and girls adopting one or two faculty members as SIS “parents.” Families meet regularly for evening games, snacks and conversation, and even share some outings or activities together.

2 SessionsThe two SIS sessions are each three weeks in length with an optional Cultural Tour at the end of each session. The SIS staff greet arriving students at the Geneva Airport, with transportation provided back to the airport when departing.

Classes, activities and excursionsStudents attend classes in the morning and participate in group activities during the afternoon, learning about the world and themselves while meeting other students from diverse cultures. On weekends, students embark on fully supervised half and full-day excursions in nearby Swiss cities and visit cultural and recreational landmarks.

mountainWhat can I say? I love Leysin! This is my 9th summer with Summer in Switzerland and every year I look forward to coming back to the “Magic Mountain.” The tiny village of Leysin sits high above the Rhône valley and the spectacular views of the Dents du Midi just never get old. It’s got the charm of a traditional Swiss village yet the modern facilities of a newer city. And being in Switzerland is just what you would expect; it’s clean, safe and absolutely beautiful. I can’t think of a better place for students (and myself) to spend the summer.

Over the years, this tiny mountain village has

reinvented itself to become an international

small town with the hospitality, facilities

and students. As a popular Alpine resort

room, the Grande Salle concert hall, the Cave student café and separate boys and girls dorms.

LAS and SIS tradition for many years and

the community. A Faculty Family provides

an emotional and social reference point

for students. Composed of teachers with

students of similar ages, it offers all a chance

to share thoughts and feelings while building

a sense of trust in their “family.”

FRIENDSHIPS, CREATIVITY,

adventure & funSIS is an intense experience of lifelong friendships, creativity, adventure and fun… lots of fun. It’s a one of a kind experience where we can meet new people our age from all over the world. Besides our morning classes, here we are offered many different activities from doing tie dye to even going parapenting. Today in my photography class we had the chance to Skype a professional photographer. He talked to us about his career, the international trips he goes on and he even gave us tips on our own photography. I enjoy SIS because they are able to give us experiences like this.

streamsWhat is a stream?

We use the word “stream” to describe our

subject areas of focus. By categorizing our

academic and activity offerings in this way

we hope to make it easier to understand

the goals of the Summer in Switzerland

program. In terms of academic enrichment

class offerings we have identified five specific

areas that provide a solid and interesting

opportunity for students of any age. Though

the specific classes we offer may change

from one summer to the next you can be

sure that any new class offerings will fall into

one of these five streams.


Why have different streams?Parents and students choose SIS for many different reasons. Some families are looking for a “summer camp” experience. Others are seeking a “summer school” experience. At SIS we are able to provide both. Students who want a summer school experience can select classes within a single stream for an immersive academic experience. Students who are seeking a summer camp experience can select courses from several streams for a varied yet stimulating experience. Either way, parents can feel good knowing that all our classes are designed to reinforce foundational academic skills necessary for students to be successful in school and beyond.

How do the streams differ by age group?

Alpine Adventure (7-11 year olds)For students in this age group the emphasis is not on gaining knowledge, but rather fostering curiosity. Both classes and activities are designed to teach AA students skills and behaviors that lead to academic and personal success.

Alpine Exploration (12-14 year olds)Students in this age group are practiced students, but they are still building a foundation for academic success. The five streams offered at SIS are high interest areas that provide SIS teachers the opportunity to teach skills through subjects that are interesting and applicable in their young lives.

Alpine Challenge (15-18 year olds)At this age some students may have thought about careers or life after school, most have not. The five streams in the SIS program represent industries, skills, and knowledge we feel are an integral part of a 21st Century education.

Whether they are seasoned travelers or

venturing away from home for the first

time, students in our AA program will feel

welcome, supported and safe in this fully

supervised program. As in our two programs

for older students, AA students will learn,

play and socialize with peers from all over

the globe.

Our scenic mountain environment

provides an ideal location for this group of

adventurers. Morning classes are designed

to follow our academic streams and provide

students with the opportunity to strengthen

language skills, math and technology skills

and expand their knowledge of Switzerland

and Swiss culture. Afternoon activities

provide opportunities for students to explore

their creative sides with arts and crafts,

sports, games and music. The evenings are

spent either in large group activities or in

smaller Faculty Family socials.

From the moment they arrive

students in our AA program are fully

engaged. So much so in fact that most

students simply do not have time to become

homesick.

Morning Classes

Morning classes for our Alpine Adventure program are designed to help these young students become more confident learners. We purposefully limit the class options to just a handful so teachers and students can concentrate on making learning as fun and interactive as possible. Three of our academic streams are represented in AA course selections: Language, STEM and Liberal Arts. However, teaching methods and collaborative classroom activities ensure students exercise artistic and creativity abilities as well as entrepreneurial skills.


Afternoon ActivitiesAlmost every afternoon AA students participate in two activity periods. These activities are a mix of sports, games, arts and crafts, and music. All activities are led by our dedicated Recreation Staff who understand the importance of participation and inclusion. By design, emphasis is placed more on encouraging these young students to try new things rather than keeping score or winning and losing. Several afternoons are dedicated to single activities where AA participates as one large group.

Evening SocialsThe Summer in Switzerland program emphasizes a family style of interaction. All students are assigned to a Faculty Family, which is lead by Faculty “parents.” Every evening students are engaged through Family Time, dorm nights or evening social events.

Family Trips & Weekend ExcursionsSeveral times during the Session, AA students participate in Family Trips where all AA students and their Faculty parents enjoy a large group activity. These trips can be to places like Château d’Oex for bowling, Aquaparc for swimming, or Parc Adventure for ropes course. The Alpine Adventure group observes their “weekends,” or days off, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This ensures that the places they travel to will be open when they visit. The first weekend of the Session students will travel to two different cities in Switzerland. During the second weekend all AA students participate in an overnight mountain hut hiking trip. Students depart campus early in the morning, and after a short drive will hike to a mountain hut somewhere in the Swiss Alps. They have dinner, camp overnight, have breakfast the next morning and hike back down before returning to campus.

These young teenagers are given the opportunity

to explore and discover through morning classes,

afternoon activities and evening socials. Subjects

offered are more in depth than those in the AA

program and adapted to their age.

Exploring their environment through

excursions, they can also make this a more

memorable summer by participating in a cultural

trip, supervised by SIS Staff, to a European

destination with their new SIS friends.

For the morning academic program,

students can choose classes from within a single

stream for a focused summer of study, or they can

explore new areas of study by taking classes from

multiple streams. Either way, we are confident

that students will find much to explore.

As in our other programs, boys and girls

live in different dormitories on our Savoy campus

with separate staff. The campus is a short downhill

walk to Leysin’s town center with its restaurants,

shops, cinema, and sporting facilities. During

their time at SIS students will become very

familiar with our quaint Swiss mountain village.

Morning Classes Our AE program offers the opportunity for young teenagers to explore and grow through morning academic enrichment classes. Our classes are designed to engage these students in age-appropriate content and to help them develop academic skills, broaden their interests and increase their knowledge. If students are especially interested in a subject area they can select all of their classes from a single academic stream. Or, if they are interested in a broader academic enrichment experience, they can choose classes from various streams. Either way, we are confident that students will find our classes stimulating and appropriately challenging.

At SIS we find that these Family trips enable students to connect with each other, and with their faculty parents, in a more meaningful way. On weekends students participate on excursions to cities in and around Switzerland. Each excursion includes a mandatory group activity as well as free time for students to explore and hang-out with friends.

Cultural TripsAt SIS, we know the benefits that come from introducing students to the larger world just outside our door. That’s why SIS students have the opportunity to take part in organized European cultural trips. Supervised cultural tours allow students to experience a new country and culture. They also help students to bond more closely, a key goal of SIS. Staff accompany students on all trips as supervisors and mentors, further promoting that sense of community fostered on campus. As a result of these experiences, SIS students gain a greater awareness of other cultures and a greater understanding of how their participation can make a difference to others.

Our oldest age group, AC, lives at

our beautiful Belle Époque Campus in the

building formerly known as the Grand Hotel.

With its sweeping panoramic view, the Belle

Époque has dorm rooms for boys and girls

in separate wings as well as the Grande Salle

ballroom, The Cave student lounge, an art

studio, workout room and classrooms.

Students in our AC program can

challenge themselves academically in one

of our five academic enrichment streams,

or they can select classes from different

streams to provide a broader experience.

Regardless of their course selections,

classes in the AC program are designed to

challenge students’ thinking skills, stimulate

their curiosity and push them to grow as

students and people.


Morning Classes Our AC classes provide opportunities for older students to apply their skills, knowledge and creative energy to academic pursuits. Courses and teaching methods will challenge AC students to express ideas, work collaboratively and gain perspective. The content of each class is designed to be of high interest, currently relevant and thought-provoking. Family Trips & Weekend ExcursionsOne afternoon per week students go on a Family Trip, allowing Faculty Families to spend quality time together. At SIS we find that these Family trips enable students to connect with each other, and with their faculty parents, in a more meaningful way. On weekends students participate on excursions to cities in and around Switzerland. Each excursion includes a mandatory group activity with free time for students to explore and hang-out with friends.

Cultural TripsAt SIS, we know the benefits that come from introducing students to the larger world just outside our door. That’s why SIS students have the opportunity to take part in organized European cultural trips. Supervised cultural tours allow students to experience a new country and culture. They also help students to bond more closely, a key goal of SIS. Staff accompany students on all trips as supervisors and mentors, further promoting that sense of community fostered on campus. As a result of these experiences, SIS students gain a greater awareness of other cultures and a greater understanding of how their participation can make a difference to others.

1. Choose the session dates, age group, cultural tour & academic streamStudents must arrive at SIS and depart from SIS on the dates given for their programs. SIS cannot accommodate students who arrive or depart outside the official arrival dates.

Students at SIS live with same-age peers (of the same gender) in our residential halls. Therefore you must indicate the correct age group based on the age of your child on June 1, 2016.

Choice of academic stream indicates a student’s preference and allows SIS to hire appropriate staff. Students who decide upon arrival to change their chosen stream are allowed to do so.

2. Student InformationFill in the details for the student who will be participating at SIS. This information is mandatory for all reservations.

3. Parent InformationFill in the details for the parent or legal guardian of the student who will be participating in SIS. This information is mandatory for all reservations.

4. Agent InformationIf an educational agent or other organization is taking care of the reservation process and/or billing for the student, Step 5 must be completed. If there is no information given here, the student will not be associated with an agent.

5. Emergency ContactFill in the details for a responsible adult who can serve as a contact in the event of an emergency and the parent/legal guardian cannot be reached. We do not accept the primary contact or agents as the emergency contact. This information is mandatory for all reservations.

10. Supplementary FormOnce the SIS team receives your Reservation Form, they will email you a link to the remaining supplementary form and information. This form will have the specific details regarding activity selection, payment information, liability acceptance and the SIS Code of Behavior.

11. Travel FormAfter the student has been accepted, the Travel Form will be sent to you by email and should be submitted back to SIS as soon as travel arrangements for your student have been finalized, but no later than June 1, 2016.
