•• I. believe that everything-whether it's bad, whether it's good, or whether you feel you've made the worst mistake of your life-it's all in God's plan. And you have to say thanks, God, for that, too. Because that takes you to where He needs you to be. " Jamie: Who was stealing, the uncle? Saaphyri: Yeah, the uncle. Jamie: Out of the bank or what? How was he stealing money? Saaphyri: He became conservotor. and once he became the conservotor he began to filter out money without telling the courts exactly what he was doing. So we knew he was taking money out of bank accounts, and he was selling properties and not reporting it. Jamie: Well. your father had a lot because after this accident-he won a lot of money or something? How did your father have a lot of money, or did he? Saaphyri: Well, my dad, he was a hard worker. He had an auto body and paint shop that he's had since the 70s. He was, like, one of the first Black men in LA to actually do it like on a scale that you would get. money from insurance compa- nies opposed to somebody just paying cash. He actually structured it to where it was business. And then he bought proper- ty. Once he did that that's how he got the bulk of his money. When he had the acci- dent he got money from that settlement too. Once that money came in, then. you know, it was just a lot You know people: When money is involved people change, Jamie. Jamie: I know. Saaphyri: I don't even know how to -explain it. It was like that whole situation' was so hurtful. Because I thought that even if my uncle and my father had their (differ- ences), I never would've thought that he would have did the things that he did. for money. Jamie: Was your father still alive? Saaphyri: When he was stealing? When he started taking money he was alive. At the end, by the time all this other stuff hap- pened, my dad was dead. Jamie: So then what happened? Saaphyri: We got my uncle out of this con- servctor position and my brother became conservator on a Friday. My dad was over at this uncle's house. My father died on, like, Sunday, after the conservatorship was transferred over to my brother. So there's a hlsrorv and it's like I can't say, "Oh, he did something:' because there's nothing that says, "Oh, he did something." But in my heart I feel that something is not right you know? And even with him stating that I was able to do this financial thing so I could get this scar removed, I should have known better than to go into an agreement with him, knowing how he is. But Ijust I didn't know. So Ijust take responsibility of I should've not did it. Jamie: So what did you do? Saaphyri: It was just a financial agreement that he agreed to pay for the removal of the scar, and then he said he didn't agree to it. . Jamie: And then what did you do in the meantime? The scar is not removed. Saaphyri: I went to a plastic surgeon and he removed it but he didn't completely remove it. It's still there. But my uncle said that he didn't agree tothe financial charges. When he said he didn't agree to it, it doesn't matter if I say, ''Yes, he did agree." . Jamie: So you went to jail for that? Saaphyri: That's what I went to jail for .... I still tried to make up with my. uncle, and I think that squashed mostly everything. Ijust look at it like, with the good comes the bad. . Jamie: Is your uncle still around? Saaphyri: He's still around. Jamie: But your brother took over as fhe conservotor? Saaphyri: Yeah, he's conservotor, But soon as my brother became conservotor. my dad died a few days after that. So even with him becoming conservotor, it didn't matter because the· conservatorship ended because he was deceased. So now it becomes probate. Jamie: Oh my god. Saaphyri: Yeah, so we went back and forth to court for a long time. Jamie: When you were sentenced, you were supposed to turn yourself in shortly after? How soon after were you supposed to go in? Saaphyri: I was sentenced in November of 2005. Now, I'm going to show you how God works here, too, Jamie. I was sentenced in October 2005. I was supposed to turn myself in in November 2005. So I prayed on it. And God was like, "Don't turn yourself in." And I know people be like, "God ain't say that; that's you saying you don't want to go to jail." But really and truly, God said don't turn yourself in. So I didn't turn myself in. About a month or so after that I was on the computer on Craigslist and it was like, "Do you want to date a .rapper?" I was thinking, "Why. not?" Date a rapper sounds okay, right? So that's what I ended up doing, "Flavor of Love:' season 2. Jamie: What did you do to get on that show? Saaphyri: It was on.ernoll address on Craigslist. They said email us a picture and just tell us a little bit about yourself. So I emailed a picture, what have you, and they called me in for an audition. They film you, they ask you some questions and you falk or whatever. So they ended up liking my personality and they brought me back again to meet the producers. Once I came back and did that, they were like, "Okay, we want you on the show." So I was like, "Okay, cool. So I end up going to do the show. I'm thinking, "I'm fin'na be on here; I'm fin'na kill all this stuff." And 10 and behold, I get into an altercation with another contestant within five minutes of going up the stairs. Jamie: Now what happened there? Saaphyri: Jamie, it wasn't even a whole day. We had filmed the little part outside and we went into the house to pick our rooms orwhatever. and it was within the first 20 minutes of me entering into the house. And what happened was, basically, there was a bed in the room and the girl said. "Oh, this is my bed." And when I had gotten there, there Was nobody there. So I was like, "I will keep it now:' and she was like, "No, this is my bed." And we went back and forth. Well, she was already upset 'cause when we were outside. Flav came around and had given everyone flowers and he forgot to give me a flower. So instead of giving me one, he ended up giving me a whole bouquet. 'Cause I was like, "Oh, you didn't give me any flowers." So the girl saw that and that became a jealousy thing a little later because she was like, "Oh, she's getting too much attention." So, back to the bed, my bouquet of flowers is sitting on the pillow and so she's, like, moving them. And I'm moving them NOVEMBER 20 I0 I S2S 59
