Pakistan-India Relations, Kashmir and External Defense

    Analysis.

    Eastern Front:

This is interesting that even the most corrupt and compromised Interior Minister is also

forced to say that Afghanistan was used to orchestrate a sinister dismemberment plan

for Pakistan but the plan was foiled by the army.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Conspiracy to break Pakistan foiled, says Malik-----------------------------------------------------------------

    By Raja Asghar

ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: Interior Minister Rehman Malik told the National Assembly on

Friday the government was in possession of the blueprint of a conspiracy to break up

Pakistan, starting with Balochistan province, but that the plot was foiled by the countrysarmed forces. He did not say who hatched the conspiracy but offered an in-camera briefing to

the house after an opposition lawmaker from Balochistan complained of a continuous

lifting and extra-judicial killing of students in his troubled province that he said must bestopped...

Last week, we had given the following assessment on the Indian strategy towards

    Pakistan:

Indians are having a vice grip on Pakistan through Afghanistan, right under the US

patronage. It is so ironic that Pakistans arch enemy is the strategic ally of the Americans inAfghanistan to create the right chaos and anarchy in Pakistan through TTP to draw Pakistan

into an open war with the Afghan Taliban, especially in the North Waziristan. Not just on the

military axis on ground, Indians also control US aid into Pakistan! The director of US aid

controlling and setting conditions for aid to Pakistan is an Indian-American, using the

American money and the subsequent clout to expand the Indian agenda!!For now, it is the Indians who have an upper hand, thanks to their media and their presence in

Afghanistan which is allowing them to wage multiple insurgencies in FATA, Baluchistan and

    Karachi

For the past 10 years particularly, India has been able to pull off audacious plans againstPakistan by fooling the Americans to believe that Pakistan is the epicenter of global terror

and thus US and India must work in closest cooperation in Afghanistan and in the 21 st

century to contain the Islamic threat. This can be graded as a spectacular success of Indian

foreign policy and diplomacy to dupe the Americans into following Indian foreign policy lineagainst Pakistan. Exploiting the American fears of Pakistani Islamic potential and Chinasfuture global leader status, Indians are now piggybacking on US strengths, technology and

global outreach to grab whatever regional and global role Delhi can grab. Americans are thus

creating a monster of Hindu terror which would threaten the regional as well as global peace

in not so far future. While India is the new strategic ally, Pakistan remains a threat despite thesuperficial faade of being ally in WOT.

US ends restrictions on defence exports to India

    ----------------------------------------------------------------By Anwar Iqbal

WASHINGTON, Jan 26: As US President Barack Obama on Wednesday praised Americasrelationship with India as one of the defining partnerships of the 21st century, a senior State

Department official announced ending export restrictions on Indian defence and space

industries. The United States had imposed these restrictions after 1998, when India tested itsnuclear devices triggering similar tests by Pakistan...

US makes veiled attack on Pakistan

----------------------------------------------------------------GENEVA, Jan 27: The United States said on Thursday it wanted to revive global arms

control talks and no country had the right to block nuclear negotiations, in what diplomats

said was clear criticism of Pakistan. Rose Gottemoeller, Assistant US Secretary of State forarms control, verification and compliance said protracted deadlock at the Conference on

Disarmament (CD) could spell the end of its usefulness...

    http://www.dawn.com/2011/01/28/us-makes-veiled-attack-on-pakistan.html

It is thus understandable that Indians would continue to bring Pakistan under pressure

over Mumbai and terrorism allegations. Indian media and perception managementteams have practically routed the Pakistani information ministry and foreign office.

    Krishna again invites Qureshi----------------------------------------------------------------

ISLAMABAD, Jan 25: Indian External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna renewed invitation to

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday to visit Delhi to carry forward thedialogue process that had been bogged down because of differences over how to deal with

gaping bilateral mistrust. Mr Qureshi rang up his Indian counterpart to felicitate him on the

occasion of Indias Republic Day (Jan 26). During the brief conversation, the two ministersexchanged views on bilateral relations.....

Jammu and Kashmir, but it needs a firm reassurance that perpetrators of the Mumbai attackswill be brought to justice because the trial of the alleged terrorists appears to be going

nowhere, according to Indian Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna. Prior to the Mumbai attacks,

things were really moving in the right direction, but that episode put the clock back and we,being a democratic country, could not remain oblivious to the feelings of our people. It was

shocking for us to know that Pakistanis were involved in those attacks, Mr Krishna told agroup of Pakistani journalists here on Wednesday...

    http://www.dawn.com/2011/01/27/detente-hinges-on-mumbai-attacks-trial-krishna.html

There is no doubt that Pakistan will have to launch media and information war as ruthlesslyas diplomatic and political offensive if Islamabad wants to block Indian offensive, both on

ground and in the international arena. Indian stakes are heavily placed on US presence in

Afghanistan. If the US is evacuated or Pakistan gets a role in Afghan peace process, theentire Indian investment would come to naught. There is a reason why Indians are so nervous

about any role to Pakistan in Afghanistan.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Pakistan gets role in Afghan peace talks ------------------------------------------------------------------

By Baqir Sajjad SyedISLAMABAD, Jan 27: Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed on Thursday to set up a joint

commission for reaching out to Afghan Taliban, implying that Kabul has finally assigned a

formal role to Islamabad in the reconciliation processeven though only that of afacilitator. Both sides agreed on the creation and operationalisation of a two-tier joint body

headed by foreign ministers and deputy foreign minister/foreign secretary to support the

peace and reconciliation process, said a joint statement at the end of Pak-Afghan foreign

    ministers talks...http://www.dawn.com/2011/01/28/pakistan-gets-role-in-afghan-peace-talks.html

It is the total and complete failure of Pakistan leadership that they have not been able to exert

themselves in Afghanistan nor have exploited the US dependence upon Pakistan. It has

become clear now that Pakistans national security policy has to start from clearing andeliminating Indian influence in Afghanistan. For now, Indians remain strong there, stabbing

Pakistan in the back at will.

    Western Theatre:

Pakistan and US are now passing through a period of high friction and hostility. There are

multiple thorny issues which are now reaching the limits of a genuine crisis. Latest being thekilling of Pakistani citizens at the hands of CIA agents. US is now bearing down all the

political, diplomatic and financial pressure on Pakistan government to get their man released

who is now at the centre of a legal battle. There is a serious chance that this crisis may get outof hand as emotions are high in Pakistan and government is too weak to face the wrath of the

people. US is in a panic mode here. This is an unprecedented crisis and has brought the role

of CIA in Pakistan into media limelight in Pakistan. This is one publicity US never wanted

and now is fiercely in damage control mode. The fallouts of this crisis are going to be farreaching and multifaceted in bilateral Pak-US relations.

LAHORE: Cameron Munter, the US Ambassador to Pakistan, rang up Nawaz Sharif, chief of

the PML-N, on Saturday and expressed regret over the death of three Pakistanis in the Lahore

Last week, we had given a detailed assessment of the Afghanistan war which has alsocreated a serious crisis for Pakistan and is causing heated friction between Pakistan and

US now. The size and nature of the Afghan army was one of the contentious issues. We

    had written:

Afghan army consists of 2, 40,000 soldiers approximately, with hardly 30,000

Pashtuns as its members and that too in the lower cadre. The entire US strategy is to

strengthen the Tajiks, Uzbeks and Hazara groups against Pashtuns. This is creating astrong sense of anger and alienation within the majority of the Pashtuns and Taliban

are exploiting this sense of anger and insecurity to gather more volunteers to the

cause.US is now waging a ruthless war in Pashtun regions to crush the Pashtun resistance

which is now genuinely under pressure as villages after villages are beingdemolished. US have not used this brutal strategy till now and this new ruthless war

against the local population is crushing the Taliban

Pakistan has raised the issue of Afghan army which the US has rejected. US does not

want to make it easy for Pakistan in the future. Even if the US decide to reduce thenumber of its troops as Obama is promising, the dominantly Tajik and Uzbek Afghan

army trained by Indian officers and academies would remain hostile towards Pakistan.

US ignores Pakistans concerns on Afghan army ----------------------------------------------------------------

    By Our Correspondent

WASHINGTON, Jan 25: The United States has decided to induct almost half a million troopsin the Afghan national security forces, overruling Pakistans concern that such a large

military on its western border will heighten its own security concerns, a senior US lawmaker

said on Tuesday. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin told a briefing in

Washington that the Obama administration had decided to expand Afghan security forces byroughly 70,000 over the current target of training and arming 306,000 Afghan military by

    Obama reviews troop pullout plan----------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON, Jan 28: US President Barack Obama and aides have discussed their goals

for Afghanistan and Pakistan for this year, which includes a gradual withdrawal of US troops

from July, the White House says. Mr Obama chaired the national security meeting which

began at 11am on Thursday and ended late in the afternoon...http://www.dawn.com/2011/01/29/obama-reviews-troop-pullout-plan.html

As we wrote last week also, Karzai is visibly nervous also and now fears for his ownfuture under growing non-Pashtun influence in the armed forces. He has been outspokenlately against western presence in Afghanistan also signaling his weakening position and

growing frictions between him and his patrons.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    Karzai opens parliament----------------------------------------------------------------

KABUL, Jan 26: Afghan President Hamid Karzai inaugurated parliament on Wednesday, ending weeks of political infighting, but took a dig at the West saying foreign

interference had been a serious problem.Western diplomats called the event a big dayfor Afghanistan, but the comments exposed the often frayed ties between Mr Karzai and hisUS-led western backers and in private officials warned of a bigger battle ahead between the

    president and his new parliament...

    http://www.dawn.com/2011/01/27/karzai-opens-parliament.html

But while US plans to leave and Karzai battles for his own future against growing threat from

his own allies, the real threat to US and foreign forces lurks somewhere else as Talibanresistance continues to get more and more ruthless and effective despite taking losses in the

brutal war being waged by the US in the South of the country against Pashtun resistance.

As we wrote last week, Afghan war has entered a decisive phase for all parties having

their stakes in the decade long conflict. It is going to be a ruthless game of cut throat

    geo-politics in the coming months:

2011 is the critical decisive year for all factions in the Afghan conflict, including Pakistan. If

the Pashtun resistance is crushed, Pakistan would be the net loser in the entire equation.Pakistan will have to take sides or at least get aggressively involved in the Afghan peace

solutions. Foreign forces are creating anarchy. Muslim peace keeping forces could be the

alternate. Pakistan will have to take the initiative and the lead in bringing the warring Afghansides together and to ensure elimination of all terrorism in the region, either by local terrorists

or by their extra regional sponsors. Till now, Pakistan has not decided which side to take.

This is the reason why we see this anarchy and war inside Pakistan. History tells us that

being enemy of US is dangerous but being its ally is suicidal. It is time Pakistan learns from

    its own history

    Political / Economic Axis:

The political, economic and administrative circus is now ridiculously silly to the point of

creating a national meltdown. We dont see a single sign to suggest any positive development

on any axis of crisis. Cabinet is being revamped, corruption is rampant, IMF is pressing hard

for privatization of national assets, opposition is threatening resistance, crushing taxes arebeing imposed, fuel prices are being hikes and inflation is in double digits.Supreme Court is

almost overwhelmed with the cases and there is total and complete governance failure at all

levels. The parliament and the government are on a fast track plan to create total andcomplete social, provincial and economic anarchy in the country. Much of their acts are

through sheer incompetence but much more is deliberate designs to create chaos.

Last week, we had given the following assessment of the anarchy.

The government is in real crisis now. In a desperate attempt to salvage whatever is left of

its political or moral credibility, the federal cabinet is either being dissolved or being

radically revamped to bring some new faces to take the heat off the corrupt and incompetent

ministers in the government. The artificial crisis of gas and energy has crippled the national economy and the lame stooge

PM is desperately trying to balance his survival skills. IMF is also cracking down upon thegovernment to implement the secret terms of taxation and privatization which this

government is unable to do. This government does not have any revenue generation plan

except to take more loans and thus pledge the country against loans, interests and corruption. The pressure is now cracking up the government as they plan a cabinet overhaul.

This government is a national security disaster. It is illegal, immoral, unconstitutional,

corrupt and incompetent. SC has the duty and the legal authority to dissolve it. If the SC does

not do its duty, the street anarchy would sweep away all laws, rules and the government. Then the army would be forced to step in to try to stabilize the situation. It seems that SC is

still reluctant to remove the government on corruption and bad governance and the situation

would continue to deteriorate. Army will have to move in sooner than later it seems. Thesituation is simply untenable

MQM leader is one of the most sinister gangster in Pakistani politics. Protected by British

intelligence, he enjoys the perks in London and works feverishly to create environment for

dismemberment of Pakistani state and society. PML(N) remains an incompetent and corrupt

party though not as violent as MQM.

that they have no time for resolving national issues.
