  • 2. Introduction There has been reports of ideas being stolen. Form the looks of it, it seems we have a serial idea thief in our hands. To make things right, it is your job as a lead investigator, to track down the original owner of these ideas and give them the credit they respectfully deserve.   • 3. Task Start by investigating the crime scenes. Gathering as much information possible, collecting the stolen ideas, as well as clues that might lead to the original creator. Now it is your time to research whose idea was it, where did the idea come from, and when was it originally created.   • 8. Teachers Pages Introduction: The students will learn about copyrights and avoiding plagiarism. Learners: This lesson is directed for my 6th grade language arts class. Yet can be used from a range of 6 8 grades. Additionally those learners will need to have basic computer skills, and know how to use the Internet. Standards: LA.1112.6.2.4 understand the importance of legal and ethical practices, including laws regarding libel, slander, copyright, and plagiarism in the use of mass media and digital sources, know the associated consequences, and comply with the law. LA.A.2.3.5: The student locates, organizes, and interprets written information for a variety of purposes, including classroom research, collaborative decision making, and performing a school or real-world task. LA.A.2.3.6: The student uses a variety of reference materials, including indexes, magazines, newspapers, and journals, and tools, including card catalogs and computer catalogs, to gather information for research topics. LA.A.2.3.8: The student checks the validity and accuracy of information obtained from research, in such ways as differentiating fact and opinion, identifying strong vs. weak arguments, recognizing that personal values influence the conclusions an author draws. LA.B.2.3.4: The student uses electronic technology including databases and software to gather information and communicate new knowledge. Use critical thinking skill to notice the clues and analyze them to search for the original author of the plagiarized work. they will need to research how to properly cite sources in both MLA and APA style. Creating their own reference sheet for future use. The students then will apply what they just have learned to give proper credit to the plagiarized material in the crime scenes, therefore solving the crime.
