J esus said to his disciples:
“If you love me, you will keep
my commandments. And I
will ask the Father, and he
will give you another Advocate to be
with you always, the Spirit of truth,
whom the world cannot accept,
because it neither sees nor knows him.
But you know him, because he remains
with you, and will be in you. I will not
leave you orphans; I will come to you.
In a little while the world will no
longer see me, but you will see me,
because I live and you will live. On
that day you will realize that I am in
my Father and you are in me and I in
you. Whoever has my commandments
and observes them is the one who loves
me. And whoever loves me will be
loved by my Father, and I will love
him and reveal myself to him."

Sacraments
Baptisms Baptisms for infants through 2nd grade are generally held during any of the weekend Masses (except during Advent and Lent.)
Please note: you must complete an online baptism request form located on our website before attending the baptism classes. If you are registered with another parish, you must provide a letter from your parish confirming that you are registered there and are regularly attending Mass.
There are three classes which parents and godparents are required to attend. The first covers the responsibilities parents and godparents promise toward keeping the flame of faith alive in their child/godchild. The second will reaffirm and respond to questions from the first and discuss the ongoing involvement in the child’s continued growth in the faith of the Church through the Sacrament of Confirmation. And the third class will discuss the baptismal rite itself.
Classes will be scheduled and conducted by Deacon Richard Ramm upon receipt of the completed baptism request form.
Weddings
All weddings must be scheduled six months in advance. A marriage preparatory class (four sessions) is required. Contact the parish office to determine availability and to schedule your wedding.

OUR HISTORY
The Diocese of Reno was established in 1931 by His
Holiness Pope Pius XI. Since that time the diocese has
experienced much change. In 1976, the diocese was re-
designated as the Diocese of Reno—Las Vegas. Bishop
Daniel Walsh later moved his residence and opened a
second Chancery office in Las Vegas in order to make
himself more available to the needs of southern Nevada,
where 58 percent of the Catholic population resided.
In 1995, due to the growth in Nevada and the great
distance between the communities of Reno and Las Vegas,
Pope John Paul II divided the Diocese of Reno—Las Vegas
into two dioceses, and Bishop Philip Straling was named
to lead the Diocese of Reno.
Once re-established as the Diocese of Reno, the diocese
continued to experience growth and renewal in its
parishes and schools. Under the leadership of Bishop
Straling and Bishop Calvo, virtually every parish and
school has complete major renovations or building
projects totaling almost $100 million. This represents a
significant investment in Parishes and Schools throughout
northern Nevada in order to serve and minister to the
people.
In addition to these major projects and many other
smaller, yet important, building projects, the diocese
needed to expand its ministries during this time of
growth. The Bishops created Lay Ministry and Permanent
Diaconate programs, which have prepared many to serve
in parishes. The Diocesan Conference continues to grow.
The Youth and Young Adult Ministry Office evolved and
has become its own office. The growing population of
Hispanics, Filipinos and other ethnic groups spurred the
growth of the Ethnic Ministry office. The diocese also
launched the Renew program in 1991 and again in 2006.
Together, we continue to grow in our faith and proclaim
the Gospel.
In 2013, Bishop Calvo called for the Second Synod of the
Diocese of Reno, which brought together over 276
delegates to create a vision for the future of the diocese.
Bishop Calvo accepted the Synod initiatives on the
Solemnity of Pentecost, May 15, 2016. We now begin the
Today Tomorrow Together campaign that will bring the
vision of the Synod to fruition and secure the financial
future of the diocese.

your generosity, our diocese will be positioned to meet
our needs.

TODAY TOMORROW TOGETHER
The Today Tomorrow Together Capital Campaign for the
Diocese of Reno seeks to raise a minimum of $12 million
to provide the diocese with the resources to carry out its
mission today and for many years to come. These funds
will be used for two purposes: To establish a permanent
endowment fund to support vocations and diocesan
ministries, and to strengthen the Deposit and Loan fund
for parishes and schools.
ENDOWMENT FUND: $7 MILLION
Vocat ions and Clergy
Investment income from a portion of the endowment will
be used to supplement the Catholic Services Appeal,
special collections and other donations to fund the
education of our seminarians and permanent deacons.
Seminarians
The Diocese of Reno commits to the pastoral and
sacramental needs of parish communities by seeking,
encouraging and supporting men interested in serving the
church as priests.
Ten years ago, the diocese had four seminarians. This
year, we have 11 seminarians in various stages of
formation. With this dramatic growth comes an increase
in expenditures. The annual cost of tuition, room and
board exceeds $30,000 per seminarian and this figure does
not include related costs such as books, health care, travel
and other living expenses.
Permanent Diaconate
Permanent deacons and their wives are a blessing to our
diocese and parishes. Deacons are ordained for the
ministry of service. They proclaim the Gospel, assist at
Mass, baptize, witness marriages, lead funeral rites, and
carry out the corporal works of mercy.
It is the intent of the diocese to re-establish the permanent
diaconate program so as to continue to provide deacons to
our parishes. The formation of a new class of permanent
deacons is a five-year process that includes coursework,
workshops and retreats. The diocese and candidates share
in the cost of this program.
Diocesan Minist r ies
Jesus Christ calls all disciples to spread the Good News;
this is the mission of the Church. Catholics in Northern
Nevada spread the Good News primarily through
ministry in the parishes. Our synod reaffirmed the need
for these ministries and it called upon us to intensify our
work in these areas. A portion of the income from the
endowment will strengthen these critical ministries.
Youth and Young Adult Ministries
Mission begins with helping our youth and young adults
to know Jesus Christ. We must continue to nurture them
as they represent the hope and future of our society.
Lay Ministry Formation and Leadership Program
All Catholics have a mission to spread the Good News.
The Office of Lay Ministry Formation and Leadership
conducts a leadership development program that is open
to all parishes of the diocese. This program trains lay
parish leaders who are interested in serving the church at
a higher level so they can effectively work with their
pastor and other parishioners to strengthen our parishes
and schools.
Faith Formation and Catechetics
The Diocese of Reno remains committed to an ongoing
dynamic vision of adult faith formation and to supporting
parish efforts to implement the directives of the 2015
Diocesan Synod. Adults must continue to be nourished in
our faith for this to happen; it is a lifelong process. The
Office of Faith Formation and Catechetics develops and
supports our catechists and directors of religious
education. The office also provides retreats, speakers and
other resources for adults seeking to continue their
formation and conducts a signature event, a two-day
annual diocesan conference.
Ethnic Ministries
The Office of Ethnic Ministry serves the needs of diverse
cultures within our diocese. This office supports pastoral
ministers in the parishes and serves as a resource for our
Hispanic, Filipino, American Samoan, and other ethnic
communities. This office collaborates with faith formation
and youth/young adult ministry to provide support to
ethnic communities in the diocese.
8
TODAY TOMORROW TOGETHER
DEPOSIT & LOAN FUND: $5 MILLION
In order for the Diocese of Reno to fulfill its mission, it is
vital that each parish have sufficient resources to carry out
its ministries. The Today Tomorrow Together campaign
seeks to raise $5 million to strengthen the Deposit and
Loan Fund for this purpose.
What is the Deposit and Loan Fund?
The Deposit and Loan Fund (D&L) has served as the
community bank for our parishes and schools since the
inception of the diocese. The Diocese of Reno, like many
other dioceses across the country, offers this program to
provide an interest bearing depository for parish and
school savings while promoting a cooperative effort
among these entities. By pooling funds, loans can be made
available to other parishes or schools that may have
immediate, long-term or emergency needs. These loans
have typically financed renovation and construction
projects and facilitated repairs to roofs, boilers, parking
lots and other immediate property needs for which funds
could not have been obtained through conventional
financing.
Why does this fund need to be strengthened?
The fund needs to be strengthened because a group of
loans to parishes are underperforming, and therefore,
funds loaned to these parishes are not being repaid on a
regular basis. This is due to changing demographics and
the Great Recession of 2008, which had a significant
impact on some of our most vulnerable parishes. Real
estate and economic growth in areas where new churches
were constructed did not occur as projected. For example,
a land sale that was to coincide with a church expansion to
offset the financial investment fell through at the last
minute due to the impact of the recession on the
developer. Another factor impacting the Deposit and Loan
Fund was necessary restoration and preservation of
historic churches.
All of these parishes are still obligated to pay their debt,
though the timing of repayment has become longer term
than initially anticipated. In addition, new policies are
now in place regarding any future loans to protect the
integrity of the fund.
Since the funds that were borrowed by these parishes are
the savings of other parishes, it is critical that we
strengthen the fund so that the parishes/schools with
funds on deposit will have access to their funds.
What is the diocese doing to stabilize the fund?
In addition to raising $5 million of capital through the
Today Tomorrow Together campaign, the diocese has
instituted a more stringent lending policy. No future loans
will be granted for expansion and / or discretionary
projects. Loans will be made available only to parishes in
the case of emergency property repair needs such as a roof
or a boiler. Parishes will be required to present a plan for
repayment.
How does this campaign differ from CSA?
The campaign responds to the long term and
extraordinary needs of the diocese, while the Catholic
Services Appeal helps fund the ongoing ministerial
expenses. A major objective of the campaign is to establish
an endowment to provide supplementary funding for
those ministerial expenses over the long term. The
endowment will strengthen and empower our church to
stand prepared to serve future generations of Catholics. In
order to achieve this goal, those in the diocese today will
be asked to give beyond their parish offertory and CSA
contribution in order to secure the future tomorrow.
Together we can build a strong and vibrant church in the
Diocese of Reno.
CAMP AIGN KICKOFF
The Today Tomorrow Together capital campaign has been
in the preparation phase since September 2016. The
campaign will officially kickoff May 20-21, 2017.
The parish is looking for volunteers to help spread the
message and fill out pledge cards which will be available
next month as well. If you are interested in helping, please
call the parish office or let Father Honesto or Father Tom
know after Mass.
As the campaign unfolds we will be sharing more
information with you.
God bless you,
Father Honesto Agustin, Pastor
9
This year, Saint Albert’s CSA goal remains
unchanged from last year at $109, 415.41. For
many reasons, this year it is especially urgent
that we reach and, God willing, exceed our
goal sooner rather than later.
As of May 18, 2017:
2017 Goal: $109,415.41
Pledged: $102,095.50 (93%)
Still Needed: ($7,319.91) (07%)
As you can see, we have made significant
progress although we remain short of our
pledge goal. Your help is needed to reach our
goal. If you have yet to make your pledge,
please consider doing so as soon as possible.
Thank you and God bless you for your
generosity and support.
Today Tomorrow Together
Kick-off Weekend
Jesus asks us to demonstrate our love for Him
through our generosity to others. In our everyday
lives, He calls us to share our gifts of time, talent
and treasure with others.
This weekend marks the official start of the Today
Tomorrow Together campaign. A packet has been
prepared for each parishioner and it will be mailed
this week. The packet contains a letter which
includes a specific dollar amount that the Bishop
and Father Honesto would like you to consicer.
Please review the campaign material, pray about
your response, and continue to spread the positive
message about this important effort.

“The poor you will always have with you, and whenever you wish you can do
good to them.” [Mk 14:7]
There is a real need for individual packets of
dried milk and single serving size pork and
beans, tuna fish, Vienna sausage, or any other
food item that come in five ounce cans. These
items are pre-cooked and can be eaten directly
from the can if necessary. I am trying to figure
out how to package these items in something
other than a brown paper lunch bag since I like to
put several items in this bag for a complete day
of food and the lunch bags aren’t big or sturdy enough to hold
everything. If you have any ideas please let
me know.
Those in need are so grateful for your gifts
of non-perishable food, clothing, and
toiletries.
Thank you for all you do for those in need
and may God bless you.

Deacon’s Outreach A Right Order To Love: God at the center
T here is a right order to love. Likewise, there is
a wrong order which is rather a sordid, all-
consuming disorder of that which we call
love.
The more I come to having God at the center of my
being, of my life, the more I am able to love others. It feels
a bit odd how that works.
When we love God above all else we inoculate
ourselves against “the slings and arrows of outrageous
fortune” thrown our way; it becomes easy to turn the other
cheek, and through his mercy, to forgive.

Boy Scout Troop, Pack and Crew 7322 from St. Albert the Great will be placing flags on the graves of veterans.
Monday, May 29 – starting at 10:30 a.m.
The morning’s events begin with the presentation of the colors by the Edward C. Reed High School, Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and the presentation of the memorial wreath.
Immediately following is the celebration of Mass presided by the Most Reverend Randolf Calvo, Bishop of the Disocese of Reno.
Following the Mass Bishop Calvo will bless our newest statue that of St. John Paul II and the adjacent columbarium of the same name.
As a reminder of our faith and in keeping with our mission to bury the dead here at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery the Most Reverend Randolf Calvo will commit to the All Souls Rememberance Crypt the cremated remains of some those forgotten in our society. The Church teaches that our mortal remains are to be respectfully placed, in a dignified way on consecrated ground, whenever possible. As a ministry of the Church, we look for ways to accommodate anyone wishing to fulfill this ideal, regardless of means, including those that are forgotten in our society.
Our service will conclude with the releasing of white doves which symbolizes the freeing of the spirit.
We invite the community to celebrate with us this Memorial Day.
Pray for Vocations
What kinds of people become priests, sisters or brothers?
Are they uncommonly holy, unusually saint-like? No. They are
people who make mistakes, people who aren’t afraid to be human
while in God’s service.
Are they people who can’t face the competition and cruelty of the
“real” world? No. They are people who believe that through min-
istry they can immerse themselves in the world and make positive
changes.
Are they people who don’t relate well with other people? No. They are people who love others
— people who find real satisfaction chatting with a 93-year-old parishioner, holding the hand of
a cancer patient, listening to the troubles of a streetwise teen.
They are people with the courage to touch lives, hearts and souls in a high-tech, unchurched world. Are you that kind of per-
son? Serra for priestly and religious vocations
A vocation must be nurtured for a lifetime, not just until ordination or the taking of vows. You can help nurture the
vocations of priests, sisters and brothers by praying, listening, and expressing appreciation. A life of service needs support
from those served. Serra for priestly and religious vocations
