“As a graduate in Economics, I was new to Supply Chain. When I first started out, logistics meant shipping and transporting goods worldwide. The thought seems easy? But in fact, behind it comes many unforeseen challenges that I only realized when I got on the job. The complexity is due to different country regulations and procedures”, said Ms Tay Ming Li Clara – Winner of Best Achiever Award for Diploma in International Freight Management (Sep 2015 Intake).

Ms Clara Tay related on how TLA Diploma programme helped to enhance her skills and knowledge in freight forwarding. Through her learning experience with TLA, she appreciated the diversity in the logistics industry.

The programme provided good insight into multimodal transportation, laws and risks involved as well as advocating good customer service and management. The theories were made practical and useful in her daily operations and she affirmed that the course had well equipped her with better understanding on the operations and processes.

The different methods of teaching and learning had had kept her engaged and participative; from work projects and presentations to class discussions and even role play. These inevitably prepared her and her course mates for today’s workforce where team work and presentations were essential. She is now full of confidence when engaging global logistics professionals during the annual logistics networking conferences.

In closing, she expressed gratitude to all lecturers for their good guidance as well as the sponsoring companies who made the entire learning journey possible.

Congrats to all graduates

In response to the Chinese government One Belt, One Road (OBOR) drive to enhance connectivity, Pacific Integrated Logistics (PILG) in collaboration with Chongqing government linked Europe-Asia rail operator – YUXINOU (Chongqing) Logistics, would operate air-rail intermodal trial shipments from Europe to Singapore via Chongqing. During the trial, joint-venture company Yuxinou-Pacific Integrated Logistics Group Multimodal Co Ltd will organize shipments with their customers between Europe and Singapore by air for Singapore-Chongqing route and with YUXINOU support by rail for Chongqing-Europe route and vice versa.

With Chongqing being the only municipality directly under the Central Government (China) and the economic center of the Upper Yangtze River, YPL is positioned to offer FCL and LCL Rail services linking the “Yangtze River Economic Belt” with the “Silk River Economic Belt” between China, Europe and Asia.

Earlier on 6 January 2016, the ground-breaking ceremony of PILG’s Innovation Hub took place at Tuas South Avenue 16. Slated to complete by 1 July 2018, the development will boost 7 levels of 600,000 sq ft ambient warehouse space and 100,000 sqft open yard.

Yang Kee Logistics, together with Logos SE Asia performed their ground-breaking ceremony at Tuas South Link to build a S$150 million Yang Kee Logistics Integrated Hub, which will house the world’s first framed multi-storey automated container depot. The new development will boost productivity and serve the needs of the Lube Park and future Tuas Mega Port. “This new facility is an indication of our commitment in creating a future depot management ecosystem where we expect the automated container depot to increase productivity by six times, prime mover driver’s productivity to increase by two times and land intensification to increase by over 200%,” said Mr Ken Koh - Group CEO. Currently, prime mover drivers typically queue for up to two hours to collect and return empty containers at depots. With the new automated container depot, queuing time for the drivers will be negligible.
