MOONS’ SM Series of servo motors has been expanded and improved. The SM Series now includes a variety of standard windings, more feedback options, and more connection options. Some ratings have increased, the model number system has been updated, and all motors are now CE, RoHS, and UL recognized.

AdriveDCBusVoltageabovethemotorBasicBusVoltage,allowsthemotortodelivertorqueathigherspeeds.Toavoiddamagetothemotor,themotorshouldneverbeoperatedatmorethantheratedpeaktorqueormaximumratedspeed.
IfthedriveDCBusVoltageismuchhigherthanthewindingBasicBusVoltage,considerchangingtoahighervoltagemotorwinding.Thiswillreducethemotorcurrent,andallowthedrivetoruncooler,orallowtheuseofalowercurrent(lessexpensive)drive.It’srareforthedriveDCBusVoltagetobemorethantwotimestheBasicBusVoltageofthemotorwinding.ThenominaldriveDCBusVoltageislimitedto350volts,asthisistheinsulationvoltageratingforSMseriesmotors.
DriveDCBusVoltagesbelowthemotorBasicBusVoltagewillreducehighspeedperformance.Whenhighspeedperformanceisnotneeded,thisisdonetominimizemotorcurrent,reducedriveheating,andreducedrivesize.Thisisespeciallyusefulforlowvoltageapplicationsoflargermotors,wherethemaximummotorcurrentislimitedbytheconstructionofthemotor.

Motorbearinglifedependsonseveralfactorsincluding:axialandradialloads,motorspeed,temperature,andthebearingratings.Becausethefrontbearingispositionedclosesttothemotorshaft,itusuallycarriesahigherradialloadandhastheshortestlife.
Acommoncauseforshaftandbearingfailureishighradialloadsthatarecreatedwhenapulleyisattachedtothemotorshaftatalargedistancefromthemotormountingface,andthebelthashightension.Toavoidthisconditionmountpulleysandgearsasclosetothefaceofthemotoraspossible,andavoidovertighteningbelts.
Thesecurvesshowbearinglife,atvariousspeedsandradialloads.Thecurveswerecalculatedwiththeradialloadappliedattheendoftheshaft.
