SMALL BUSINESS CELEBRATION 22 23 NOVEMBER 2013
Introduction
Gold Coast City, often referred to as the Small Business Capital, has a resident
population of over 500,000 and is now the sixth largest city in Australia. The
city is located in one of the fastest growing regions in the nation and its
business and industry base of tourism, construction, and entertainment,
retailing and service sectors such as health and education has driven the
region's prosperity in unison with its population's shifts from the southern states.
However, challenges lie ahead in continuing the rate of economic
development in the region in terms of jobs growth, education outputs, healthservices, social opportunity and environmental sustainability.
The Gold Coast is the next development phase of its economic evolution and
attracting and assisting small business is an essential part of maintaining its
commercial attractiveness.
Small Business Association of Australia (SBAA) is also keen to assist business
owners and entrepreneurs to grow and sustain the pool of smaller
companies. To this end SBAA works with governments, educational institutions
and larger businesses to help maintain the prosperity of small business in an
effort to curb failures and retrenchments.
Accordingly SBAA will hold an inaugural Celebration of Small Business with
the support of the Queensland Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI)
and other organisations at Bond University on the Gold Coast in November
2013.
SBAA Patron, Mrs Gina Rinehart has contributed $40,000 to be used in
recognising individuals and organisations that have materially assisted SME's
(small and medium enterprises).
A number of events including an expo, workshops and the first grass roots
small business conference will be held.
The event will subsequently become a fixed annual promotion in all our
mainland States.
